So...

I'm having a real trouble with the full sync on this one for the ol' 100%.

Stay within 40 m? Sure, got it.

Kill him before he gets to the cave? Nailed it. That all cave pass will go on unused.

But the three running assassinations.... oh the three running assassinations.

I can only get the second guy for certain each time. All the others spot me (full red triangles) before I get to them, making them impossible to assassinate. (You essentially need to be anonymous to be able to assassinate them.)

So... what am I doing wrong? I'm running at full pelt (as I'm staying within the 40m) I'm skipping over items and such.

In every video online Connor just isn't spotted so the assassination seems easy enough. But the first guy spots me just as soon as I come out from underneath the low bar before him, he begins to spot me.

Is there a faster way to run, or to get to him. I'm just holding down R2. Have I completed the rest of the game without the top running speed? Have I got 99% completion at just a trotting canter?

I had the same problem as you. I realized that for as long as if I've been playing the game, Connor's been jogging, not running. The meant that only the second running assassination target worked, since the other ones had already detected me by that point. For whatever reason, I needed to squeeze, I mean literally SQUEEZE the RT button to get Connor to run. I had to squeeze so hard that I could only get him to run with one of my controllers. No amount of squeezing helped with my other one. I'm not sure if it's a problem with my very old controllers or with the sensitivity gauge of the game (my guess is both, since it's remastered from ps3 and the ps3 had very different triggers), but my recommendation would be to try that. Hope this helps! Let me know if that works, I'm curious if we've been having the same problem. :)

If nothing else, here is a test that should at least help you diagnose the problem. You can compare these two videos:

Video 1: Go to 1:34. This is what the sprinting animation looks like:

Video 2: This is what I've been doing all game (jogging, thinking it's sprinting):

+1 to ShadowComplex above. I've played about 40 hours until I read this thread and found out I've been jogging all along. It makes so much sense as to why some simple missions were so hard for me.

Changed to a different controller (newer than base model by almost two years - White Destiny edition) and now I'm sprinting.

This is weird... I'm having a lot of trouble with the running assassinations too, sure, but only he last pair. It seems like there's just an extremely narrow window between getting out of the knee-deep water and running bodily into the first of the thugs where you can perform the assassinations. However, MY problem is the '40 meters' limit. It just seems IMPOSSIBLE to me. Right after the dual assassination (on the rare occasions where I manage them), after climbing the incline, I start in on the leaping-throug-the-masttops segment... and he hits 40 meters. EVERY. GODDAMN. TIME. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, no idea what I could possibly do different - there's no apparent delay anywhere in my movements, no alternative paths I can take. I've watched a few youtube-videos, including those offered above, and the people in them seem to do the EXACT SAME THING I'm doing, only... somehow, he doesn't get away from them.

What is going on? What am I supposed to DO?!

EDIT: Finally figured it out - leaving my findings here in case anyone else have the same problem. The key is the watery area right before the double assassination. The waves wash across there regularly, changing the depth. If you run through the whole stage PERFECTLY, never wasting a moment, you will arrive just as the water is at its highest, slowing you down as you wade through it, making the double assassination difficult and ensuring that your mark will get 40 meters ahead as you scramble up the following incline. Basically, you have to waste a couple of seconds somewhere earlier in the race - there’s a number of places where the target basically stops to wait for you, resetting his lead, so it’s not too hard. This way, you arrive at the watery spot as the waves go OUT, making the double kill far easier and saving you enough time to keep up with the mark without much trouble. Phew. Only took me a few hours and a dozen or so rewatches of various YouTube videos of the run to figure that out! I think the original game didn’t have quite so dynamic water, hence avoiding this problem...

Thank god, I really love you a bit right now, this is the exact same issue I faced half the evening yesterday, I was getting really desperate and furious and I had no idea what I did wrong, I was like "I'm doing this piece of shit stage perfectly, what more could you possibly want?!", but that's totally stupid, I mean isn't doing things the perfect way supposed to be good?

On another topic: Now I just have to figure out how to do the last privateer missions (escort 8 little shits without them getting rekt by the enemy or by steering into my ship) -_-

I know this post is almost 3 years old but I was having the exact same issue with the double assassination part, wasted about 5 seconds while the dude idled around and finally got it.
