Can't do infinite worth EXS

Hi, i'm suddenly having problem with this. I was doing them in order. i did them until waldstein then it dont works anymore. i have 200exs, orange hp, i press R2 (mapped as the 4 buttons, but i also tried pushing all 4 buttons), and i get the light column, the exs bar depletes and nothing more. so i tried next fighter, hyde, and the same happens. why it suddenly stopped working? what im doing wrong???

 

 

EDIT: i finally figured out what was wrong. u must be close to the enemy, almost sticked to it otherwise it dont works.
