Popular Post ShadeRyderGold
In my quest to 100% the collection, I decided to finish Brutal but without doing a bunch of hacky things to downgrade to v1.0 and using the tweaks. Instead I used speedrunning glitches to skip a large portion of the game and some of the tougher fights. ❓ Why? Because balancing the difficult portions with something I found interesting (learning a speedrunning route) made it a much more enjoyable playthrough than spending hours at the same checkpoint every 10 minutes. ❓ How long did it take? I didn't time myself but I'm estimating about 8 hours. Considering the tutorial video is almost 3 hours of that, gameplay wise would have been closer to 5, so less time than my initial playthrough. Tutorial & Preperation I followed this speedrun tutorial which is extremely helpful for how to perfom the needed glitches (frequent strong language warning): Tutorial Link Tutorials for the main glitches can be found at the following: Wall Clipping - 24:15 Book/Journal Launch - 31:36 Book/Journal Extend - 33:05 Airwalk & Grenade Airwalk - 40:39 Upwards Airwalk - 1:08:38 Shimmy Cover - 1:28:14 The one glitch you have to be more careful with is the Grenade Airwalk. Simply throwing the grenade at your feet will kill you on Brutal, but throw it too far and it won't knock you out of the airwalk. I practiced the distance to get it consistent, and found aiming straight down to the left/right/behind and then doing a quick full tap of the right stick up 6 times gave the perfect distance. 5 would still kill you. More would often not connect. Apart from that everything is the same. As you can imagine not all fights can be skipped so apply all the other suggestions in other posts in those cases to get past them (corner shooting, weapon switching etc.) I ran mostly the same route, but of course on a new game, Campaign and Brutal. Some of the more minor skips I didn't bother with, my main goal was skipping fights (though they were fun to attempt) Notable Route Changes & Tips Chapter 5 The first enemies you encounter never gave me 2 grenades, only 1. However the first airwalk skips so much of these chapters it's still worth it. So do the airwalk (took me a good 6 tries or so to get in a good spot where I could throw the grenade to a spot that didn't kill me) and carry on the chapter as normal. You have to do the helicopter fight which is annoying but if you get some lucky hits it should go down quickly. Chapter 7 Keeping the "uzi" or Micro 9mm is not important, it just allows running and gunning through the start of chapter 10 which is impossible on Brutal. Chapter 9 Pick up the grenades but don't use them to do any of the skips here. You'll need them for chapter 10. Chapter 10 This is the first chapter that you have to get through normally on Brutal and it's a rough time. The first room is the worst, I ended up taking cover on the right, sneak takedown the one who leans on it, quickly killing the other on the right, taking out the sniper and then getting lucky with the other 2. Beware the one that comes down the stairs as you climb them too. After that the rest is not bad with corner shooting. Use the grenades from chapter 9, you also pick up at least another 2 from enemies and 4 when you leave the temple so don't be afraid to use them. I used a 92FS and FAL the whole time and kept ammo high using weapon switching. Using a scope with the FAL is invaluable. The room with the Pistole can be annoying but a lucky grenade can take them both out quickly. For the final area outside corner shoot from within the temple. Chapter 11 I couldn't get through without having to kill some of the enemies along the way, or at least hitting them enough times to stop them shooting as I walked, especially the very start. You just have to get lucky in some places hoping they don't shoot you and hit your invincible sidekicks instead. Chapter 12 You can stealth kill all the enemies in the first area which is the easiest way to clear it. I couldn't get any of the first enemies to drop a grenade, so the air walk won't work. However there's another way to skip the fight found in this video. It's very precise, I used the FAL and ended up jumping over the entire wall which had the same effect but it took quite a few tries. Less than the actual fight though for sure. The last fight is simple, blind firing when they get close is safer and taking out the snipers is easy with a sniper rifle. I don't feel like I killed as many as they do (the 2 on the ground on the right didn't spawn for example) but as soon as the cutscene with the heavy machine gunners ends you can hide until the chapter ends, no need to run at the truck. Chapter 15 Try to stealth kill everyone in the first round, picking up a sniper rifle (top of train on right side) and the Desert 5 (left side on a crate) and being as far to the back as possible before killing the last enemy. Then snipe the 5 enemies dropping down. You'll hit a checkpoint then, and most likely die quickly. When you restart the checkpoint use the Desert 5 to kill the new enemies as they drop, or run up to get the sniper rifle again (it respawns) and take them out. For the final 3 brutes do the same again, reload the checkpoint, run up to the sniper rifle and take them out. Chapter 17 Don't bother looking up the chapter 17 skip they mention, the way they show skips the fight here anyway. Chapter 18 No need to do the major skip if you're happy doing the puzzles, I did it just for fun but it doesn't skip anything Brutal related. Even the runner has difficulty getting it to work. Skip to 2:09:01 for the ending section. Chapter 19 This is when everything becomes very annoying. Being extremely patient or getting very lucky are your only options through most of this chapter. You can follow this brutal playthrough video if you want some strategies. There is a skip you can do for the final fight in this video which seems new and isn't explained very well. I had to watch it at 0.25x speed to figure out what was happening. Basically you want to go into cover in the corner shown (this is the checkpoint where Tenzin smashes the door down) spin the camera slightly right and then do a wall clip to the upper right. You'll hang from an out of bounds ledge. Shimmy across to the left until you can't any more, climb up and then go along the out of bounds seam and jump up to the roof. Position yourself similar to how they line up in the video and then jump into the next area. I had a lot of difficulty finding an angle where I was able to clip through without getting stuck and without dying, so experiment a little. Also spinning the camera to the right just before you land seems to help too (at least when I did that it worked) The second part where you clip into Tenzin's house felt similar to the Chapter 18 major skip but left instead of right. Get into cover on the side of the box, move as far left as possible whilst aiming, then quickly roll, stop aiming, move the left stick to bottom left and roll again in one fluid motion. I managed to get this in a couple attempts but maybe I was just lucky, it doesn't seem very precise. Once you're stuck in the ground roll towards the wall and then try to take cover on the wall next to the door to get back on solid ground. Run upstairs and you're in Chapter 20. Chapter 20 As you may have guessed, Tank Skip is basically impossible so you need to do this normally. Chapter 22/23 The first big fight can be tough, just make sure you pick up at least 3 grenades for the skips later. Use ammo liberally as you won't need it after the skips. For the final (vertical) airwalk you'll have to guess the aiming for the grenade on the roof, it's right after a checkpoint though so if you mess up just try again. After skipping to the next fight (around 2:29:00 in the video) I would recommend clearing out the enemies, they'll kill you before you clip otherwise. Killing the first couple will spawn more but will trigger a checkpoint so you can relax a bit. There's only 6 or so total and plenty of high power weapons around. Don't bother with the skip, it only skips a cutscene and you end up in the same area. Get some nice ammo for the next fight before you turn the wheel and then get it again before the zipline to make short work of the last few enemies. You lose your weapons after this last fight anyway. Chapter 25 The guardian fight near the beginning is rough, they kill you in one hit and take hundreds of hits to kill. Grenades do massive damage to them so a few lucky throws will help, you don't need to keep one for the final airwalk so use them all if you want. Once the first two are down grab one of their crossbows and you should be able to finish the bomb throwing one in a couple hits. Thankfully this is the last fight you'll be doing until the final boss. For the final airwalk the grenade distance should be the same as mentioned above, aim down behind you and 6 taps up. Chapter 26 If you want a nice easy end to your run, this video shows an easy method for defeating the last boss. Closing Comments I really enjoyed this playthrough, it was frustrating at times to be sure but when I think about some of the fights that are skipped I dread what they would have been like. Crushing was frustrating enough at times. But now I have my 100% I can go on to UC3! Hope this is helpful to someone.
