About difficulty settings

I am a few hours into both games and I find the difficulty of the battles a bit annoying. the enemies hit too hard and the battles take too long.

I know, that I can lower the difficulty, but that also lowers the exp gain.

does anybody know if I gimp myself if I lower the dificulty, because I gain not enough exp?

I read in the trophy guides of the individual games, that they get pretty easy later on. would it be better just to endure it till than?
