What sort of cheese/workaround are people using for the level 99 trophies?

Over on (URL not allowed), a bunch of people have the Hardcore level 99 achievement on PS4. Yet nobody has it on the PS5 version. Odd.

 

I’m an Xbox gamer myself so I don’t know a lot about PSN set up, but I can only imagine that it’s some sort of single player character file manipulation that people are doing?

 

I might believe it if one or two people had gotten it, but 40+? There’s just no way. I’ve been grinding like nuts on the PC version under optimal conditions and my hardcore Barbarian is barely into level 98. It’s just such an absurd grind. It’s going to take me several more weeks to grind out the last level.

There is no cheese/workaround. There is exactly one person who has gotten to level 99 legit so far, and that was Vextens, using the method I described in this thread:

 

Every other one of those level 99 achievers cheated (that's why they're all on PS4 and not PS5 -- there's no way to cheat the PS5 version yet). In particular, a PS4 save file editing program released support for Diablo 2 on November 12 and then, wouldn't you know it, dozens of people immediately started getting the level 99 trophies on November 12.

 

There is only one person on another site that got the level 99 trophy before November 12. I don't know how they got it, but there's basically no way it's legit either. They got the platinum about 800 real-world hours after the game's release. That one person is off of the PSNP leaderboards already, so presumably they were already caught cheating some other games.
