"Well Rounded" Trophy - How?

how do you get a unit to a veteran status?

The unit has to amass a certain amount of xp to where they level up and get a diamond above their head. They only need one bronze one to count as a veteran.

 

It's easier to get Veteran status on units that have long range attacks as you can use focus fire attack card to have them shoot through buildings and enemies amassing XP very quickly. Grenadiers, Snipers, Marksmen. Rangers and Assault to some effect too though may need some health upgrades for survivability.

 

Best upgrades to take when doing this surprisingly is fire rate and reload abilities on the units you need leveled. The faster they can attack the more damage they can deal the faster opponents go down and more XP gained. I've found while the XP boost upgrade can help it's better of being used in an unlocked third slot more then the prior two which should always be prioritized. Reason for this is simple it might boost XP given but if you still aren't receiving enough XP or worse off having units die due to subpar traits it will be for naught anyways.

 

Doctors I personally never take either. They cost too much and are very hard to level up. Plus most players will have typically access to at least one helmet with a self heal bonus. Just use that on the troop your specifically trying to level for better results.

 

One important to mention when going for this too. Never ever play the Defense Battles. Always skip them / select play later. Your VIPs are automatically deployed in them under certain conditions usually when the enemy troops reach a certain point in your base. They can die permanently in this mode like in normal attacks. So you can end up losing what you were working towards.
