The PlayStation 5 is now outperforming the PS4 which considering the issues Sony had early on with supply is an incredible achievement. For those who haven't followed the numbers recently, the PS5 is seeing year on year gains each month of 300+% while their competitors drop (no issue for Nintendo, a disaster for Microsoft especially as they also said they had shortages like Sony did). Granted, there was a supply shortage the previous year, but even with that many in the media have been hoping for a 100-150% so Microsoft has some glimmer of chance and 300+% is just massive. The bad news does not stop for Microsoft as the sales trend keeps holding even in America which means for the 1st time since the original Xbox that I can recall, this year has seen PlayStation outselling Xbox in their American stronghold by 2 to 1 (it is worse elsewhere) who have only continued to lose ground. Even the Xbox One which was considered a disaster did not perform as badly as the Xbox Series X|S is doing. The two pluses for them, total revenue and subscriptions are also only positives if someone doesn't think about it for even a second (as the media often doesn't). That being total revenue which is up after all their buyouts but their unknown costs are also speculated (Microsoft hides the numbers as they're bad) to be much larger which cancels out increased revenue (likelihood is they're losing more money than they did with the Xbox One) and subscriptions which while certainly up from the Xbox One period are also now cannibalising their revenue from game purchases at a much higher rate if not outright making it disappear entirely for certain Xbox owners considering Xbox's diminishing software sales.

For those wondering why Nintendo doesn't come up in the above. The Switch is also getting outsold and on a decline yes, but it has also been out much longer (selling very well to where it could potentially overtake the legendary PS2) and has largely saturated the market. The fact they're still often outselling the Xbox, and remember they don't lose 100-200 bucks on each console sale like Xbox does (Sony reportedly only lost a good amount on console sales early on and they've since fixed that) means their numbers are certainly much healthier.
