soncrashtg
Hello all Is playing this game requires strength / stamina? I’m asking because I’m quite fat and not in good shape, will I burn decent amount of calories playing this? thanks
Popular Post ValkerianCreator
This is not as good of an exercise as Lesmills body combat or Creed. However, this does require stamina and it will make you sweat if you play it for longer than 20 minutes and you are rowing most of the time during those 20 minutes. At the end of the day, it is a rowing simulator, without real weights, but it's still a kayak rowing simulator, and that is a form of exercise. Actually, I think this (Kayak) and Synth Riders might be the best choices for someone like you to start with "VR exercising" in psvr2. Swordsman probably isn't bad at all either, but Synth Riders is much more fun (just turn on the Spin 180 modifier and change the height to make the spheres come at you at the most comfortable height, and it gets even better). On the other hand, Creed, Lesmills, and perhaps, even Pistol Whip, might be too intense for you at the beginning, especially if you never exercise. You don't realize it, but as you are dodging slowmo bullets in Pistol Whip, you will end up doing a lot of half sit-ups. So, your legs will be hurting the next day if you play it too much. Lesmills is probably the best to exercise seriously with VR, and it might be the most intense too (depending on what routines you pick), but, because it is designed as a true workout endeavor in VR, rather than as a "pure" game, it doesn't feel as fun as Synth Riders. But yeah, if you really are serious about losing weight with VR, I think you will have to put Lesmills in your VR routine sooner or later. Beat Saber is the golden standard for this, because it gets the workout part right and the "fun game" part too, but it's not on psvr2 yet, so that means that Lesmills and Synth Riders are the best choices now, with Kayak as probably a #3. (Note: I haven't played Lesmills, but I platinumed BoxVR in psvr1, and Lesmills is obviously just an improved clone of BoxVR for psvr2. And, although I never found BoxVR that much "fun," I think it was the #2 exercising game in psvr1 for sure, with Sprint Vector as the #1, if you ask me.) So yes, I think you will do well with Kayak to start out. However, Lesmills and Synth Riders should be in your list if you want to get serious about using VR as a true weight loss activity. Just go very easy at first (do the easiest routines; use normal or even easy mode; do less than 35 minutes at a time) and little by little (week after week, not everyday) raise the speed/difficulty or the amount of time you do. For the record, since this is the only "VR weight loss" topic I've seen in a very long time (years probably), I will add that I did lose real pounds with Beat Saber and Sprint Vector on psvr1. And that was even without being overweight, so it is completely obvious that the most intense of these VR games really work to lose weight if you play them everyday, or if you play them at a high intensity. I also sweat a lot with Dance Collider, Creed, BoxVR, Until You Fall, OhShape (on hard/expert modes), and Racket Fury Table Tennis. Unfortunately, most of those are not in psvr2, so, you will have to go with Synth Riders, Lesmills, and Kayak. I wouldn't recommend Creed for you at first because I think it is the most intense one. I think Lesmills (the true exercising game) is more appropriate because you can pick the easier routines until you are at a higher level. EDIT: I tried Les Mills Bodycombat (psvr2) two weeks ago for the first time. It is not a clone of BoxVR; it is much better than BoxVR. I think it's the best VR "game" to exercise so far. It is pretty intense, like a cardio workout class at a gym, so someone who hasn't been doing any form of exercising should avoid the +20 minute routines and the advanced routines. Just start with the ones that are in the lowest difficulty and less than 15 minutes. If it's not enough, do two of those. I tried one of the advanced 20 minutes ones the other day and finished it literally at my limit (if it was 30 minutes long I wouldn't have finished it) and I can run 2-3 miles at the moment, so I wouldn't say I'm out of shape at all. Kittens Are Awesome
@soncrashtg I think that's great that you are incorporating a hobby like gaming into your weight loss journey. Keep it up. You'll eventually hit your goals if you stick with it.
