How Do I beat CPU Level 4's

I went through the campaign on Yellow Hat, tried the first stage's CPU battle, and unlocked the higher difficulty, but have no clue how the scoring system works. What exactly is the strategy for defeating the CPU on level 4 difficulty?

 

Edit: To answer my own question. This is different from the regular game. You are generally penalized for freestyling, which is basically the opposite of going for Cool mode in the campaign. Basically, just follow the pattern. I felt pretty silly when I realized it.

This is exactly right, but I can't find any other walkthroughs that point this out. The goal is to freestyle on the first line of each round to gain as many points as possible, and then every line after that within the round will subtract points for not matching the beat exactly, so just match the beat after the first line and it's pretty easy to win.
