RIP Terry Pratchett...

I assume this is the right place for it, but for any fans and friends who haven't yet heard, Terry passed away today, with his cat on his bed and his family at his side. He was 66 years old.

As a DWcon regular, I miss him terribly. He was a dear friend to every one of us. My friend Talis has already written a lyric for a song dedicated to him, because that's what she does. I've included the copyright at the bottom of the post because it is her livelihood, so please share that if you share this:

All of us heroes afraid of our task 

And afraid of the cost that the calling might ask 

He taught us all about courage and doing what’s right

And all of us mothers who read to our daughters

I remember first picking up one of the Discworld books over 20 years ago and I haven't put them down since. He took a genre that was ripe for parody (fantasy) and made it his own. He is to fantasy what Douglas Adams was to sci-fi and that is the highest compliment that I can pay anyone.

 

Rest in peace Terry, you crazy, wonderful man.
