Paragon: Info thread (Game is dead, server go down in April)

Paragon is a third person MOBA made by Epic Games and it started its early access beta yesterday for the cost of $20, $60, or $100.

As someone who is a super casual when it comes to MOBAs (I've only played HOTS and a little bit of Smite) I will now give my First impressions of Paragon.

Visuals: It looks good, really good in fact. The only other MOBA that comes close to it in visual is BattleBorn.

Combat: It feels nice, but it's slow. When I first saw the game I thought the combat would be faster.

Characters: All of them feel unique, but some of them seem weaker then other. This is probably due to my inexperience with this game and MOBAs in general.

Pace: I guess the pace of each match is okay, each match takes around 25-45 minutes to finish. I'm pretty sure this is the normal pace of a MOBA. (I'm used to HOTS 15- 20 minutes matchs)

Cards/Item: The card system is cool, but there will be balance problems with it. The cards are your upgrades in the match and after your reach level 5 you can make your own deck. Cards are give to you in card packs that you get for leveling up characters and by buying them with in game money. Cards have the normal card rarity system (common, uncommon..etc) and they are all random so you can buy 10 packs and never get a rare card but someone else can buy two packs and both will have a rare card. This could cause balance problems based on how strong rare cards are.

All and all it an okay game right now and it has potential.

All of this has changed see the posts below to see have the game has changed in the last few months.
Here's a video about the baiscs of the game:

So I played the game some more and the card system has way more depth to it then I first thought. Only certain characters can use certain types of equipment cards and each type of equipment card can only use certain types of upgrade cards. For example a equipment card that boosts attack speed and physical damage can only use upgrade cards that also boost attack speed and physical damage.

I like how much variety this can add to each character, but I wish cards weren't tied to a RNG system.

I guess I'll update this post with any changes that happen to the game until the beta is out in August.

The biggest thing that has been going on in the game is the deathball meta game. What is the deathball? It's a strategy that is currently dominating the game. To understand why the deathball is so strong right now you need to know a few things about how Paragon's gold/cxp and item/card system works. CXP (the gold of the game) is has a share radius so if someone near a teammate picks up cxp that teammate with also get the same amount of cxp. This radius currently works on cxp dropped by jungle camp monsters and player kills. Because of this share radius someone figured out that instead of laning at the start of the match all 5 players can just go into jungle and kill camp monsters to get a huge amount of cxp 3 minutes into the game. Because of this the team that is deathballing will have mid to late game cards/items about five minutes into the match. In most cases this leads to 10-15 minute blow out matches.

This deathball strategy has more or less shaped the way the game is played right now.

This is more or less gone from the game now.

Besides that the only thing that's going on is just normal moba balance stuff and a new character.

Here's a video about the new character Sevarog

There was also a new character revealed named Khaimera

We’d like to introduce you to the latest Hero. We call this melee fighter … Khaimera. He’s Paragon’s first duelist, a Hero who excels at isolating targets, and also happens to wield dual axes. Get your first look at Khaimera below. You’ll be able to play Khaimera as part of our update on Tuesday, June 21. The TL;DR on Khaimera is that he is a melee fighter who specializes in disrupting team fights with close-up encounters. His Pounce leaps to a target enemy Hero, briefly stunning that Hero and dealing Physical Damage around him. While he’s engaged in fights, his Spirit Regeneration stacks more health regen with each basic attack. His Ultimate, Cull, deals a large amount of damage, both rooting and isolating a target from allies.

That's all for now.

The newest update for the game (v.28) has changed Travel Mode.

We recently announced our plans to remove Travel Mode, and with this week’s v.28 update we’ve replaced Travel Mode with Auto Sprint. With Auto Sprint you will naturally progress into a faster movement speed when you have been out of combat for 5 seconds. This is a step in the process as we continue to look at map traversal speed and adjust for the future. You can read more about Auto Sprint in THIS blog.
In order to improve match length, we have implemented some of the adjustments we outlined in our Match Length blog. Inhibitors now respawn if you bring the Prime Orb to your own capture point, and Super Minion strength and numbers have been adjusted. Towers have also been changed to allow for the capability of Heroes to tank the damage and dive.
But v.28 is bigger than that. We’ve added more ways to level up and progress with a fully revamped daily rewards system. We’ve also added weekly quests which will allow you to earn some sweet loot, like cards and skins, if you conquer some objectives for that week.
With v.28 we’ve also introduced a major UI overhaul to the game. The revamped homepage will now provide a place for you to check out all the latest Paragon news, stats and strats.
We’ve also made a host of other changes in this update including more viable starter decks, recommended builds in-game, adjustments to health and mana potions, and much more. Take a look below for all the v.28 changes.

Update:

Paragon is now free for PS+ members.

And the Kill the Core community event has started.

Greetings Paragon community,

Today marks the beginning of our first community event during the month of July. Kill The Core, which runs from July 5 through July 11.

You’ll have to work together as a team and a community to kill the 2.5 million cores. Each player on a winning team will contribute to the total amount during the next week. If this goal is reached, then everyone will be granted the Midnight Muriel skin.

Be sure to check the new in-game homepage to track the community’s progress as we work toward this goal.

GLHF!

Update:

New character

We’d like to introduce you to the latest Hero. We call this fighter … Greystone. He’s a noble force who leads his team into battle. Get your first look at Greystone below. You’ll be able to play Greystone as part of our update on Tuesday, July 12.

The TL;DR on Greystone is that he is a fighter who thrives in team fights and excels on the front lines. Using “Assault the Gates” to close the gap on high-priority targets, Greystone then activates “Make Way” dealing damage in an area around him. He doesn’t mind taking a few blows since his “Stoic” ability grants him passive bonus resistances. When Greystone’s opponents think they've bested him, he turns to stone and is respawned through his ultimate ability, “Reforged.” With his spirit crashing down from above, Greystone returns from the dead with a portion of his HP and  full Mana while damaging and knocking up enemies around him.

As always, all Heroes in Paragon are free, so if you're in Early Access you'll be able to jump in as Greystone on Tuesday.

And if you're not in Early Access yet, you can pick up a Starter or Founder's Pack now to get into the action.

Update:

New patch (v.29)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGCI-cal8Eo

https://www.epicgames.com/paragon/blog/hero-balance-changes-new-skins-and-card-adjustments

New event: Double Everything All Week

This week’s community event is a double whammy. First off, we’re offering Double Rep AND Double XP starting tomorrow (July 26) running through Monday, August 1. As part of that, we’re doing what we call the Hero Level Event.

We’re tracking how many Hero levels everyone gains this week. If the community hits 850,000 Hero levels this week, everyone who participates will receive the Monarch Dekker skin.

Since you can make the most progress with Heroes you’ve never played … mix it up, try some new Heroes and get some free stuff.

See you on the battlefield!

Note: The boost from the event stacks additively with boosts bought from the in-game store. You can have up to a 300% boost to exp and rep this week. Edited by soultaker655

Update: New character

We’d like to introduce you to the latest Hero. We call this Support Caster  … The Fey. She’s an entity who channels nature’s power in Agora. Get your first look at The Fey below. You’ll be able to play The Fey as part of our update on Tuesday, August 2.

The TL;DR on The Fey is that she is a Support Caster (Energy Damage; Growth, Intellect) who uses nature’s power in Agora to specialize in crowd control and harasses you in lane. Her Untamed Growth ability throws out a explosive plant that does AOE damage over time. Her Bramble Patch creates a line of thorny brambles that can slow multiple Heroes. Harvest Nettles refunds mana on successful hit while her Ultimate, Fly Trap, summons a gargantuan plant that drags you in and applies serious damage.
As always, all Heroes in Paragon are free, so if you're in Early Access you'll be able to jump in as The Fey on Tuesday. If you're not in Early Access yet, you can pick up a Starter Pack to get into the action prior to Free Open Beta on August 16. PlayStation Plus members can even pick up a free Starter Pack through Monday, August 1.

  • 3 months later...

It's been a while since I posted anything in here so let's go over what has changed since open beta started.

New characters:

There have been 5 new characters added and one major character rework since open beta started.

Narbash: The first and only healer in the game right now

Lt. Belica: The first MP drainer

Kwang: An initiating Fighter

Countess: A melee Burst Caster

Crunch: A combo based Fighter

Twinblast rework:

New Map:

Starting tomorrow a new smaller map called Monolith will take the place of the old big map. With this new map in place the need of travel mode will gone and so travel mode be removed.

Also some aesthetic changes have been made to the game like the new home menu and the weekly quest system.

Besides that Paragon is still a third person moba.

  • 1 year later...

On the 25th of January Epic announced that paragon will be shutting down on April 26.

The two perceived reasons for the shutdown is because of the dev not knowing what to do with the game and so they can just focus on fortnite battle royal.

Epic also said that they will give a full refund on all paragon purchases if a player requests it.
https://www.epicgames.com/paragon/en-US/news/paragon-to-close-on-april-26

Really sad to see to the game go out like this.

The game is closing without ranked matchmaking, getting trophies, or before leaving beta.
