When it first came to life in 2004, few people knew what to make of “Katamari Damacy’s” off the wall concept. Charging gamers with the task to roll the adhesive katamari, this Namco title quickly became a favorite among Playstation 2 owners. “Katamari Damacy’s” ease of use and one-note gameplay was surprisingly well received. Six entries later, and fans of the series are still clambering for the original entry, which held a certain charm that its successors often lacked.

Word came down earlier today from Siliconera that the original tale of the loveable Prince and his drunken father would find its way onto the Playstation Network this month. Unfortunately, the release will only satisfy fans on Japan’s Playstation Network, but North American gamers shouldn’t give up hope. Though it’s currently only slated for a Japan release, there is a good chance that Namco Bandai will redistribute the game electronically in the States; especially after an its inevitable success this month.

“Katamari Damacy” pits gamers in the shoes of the Prince, the son of the King of All Cosmos’. After a night of binge drinking, the King accidentally wipes out all celestial bodies from the sky. Equipped with a katamari, or essentially a sticky ball, the Prince is charged with the task of collecting objects from Earth to recreate the stars and constellations that his father eradicated.

Katamari Damacy is part of next week's PlayStation Store update. So if on April 30 you see a massive ball of clumped-together games where the PSN should be, you'll know what's up.

The game, first released in North America almost ten years ago, will come to PSN as a PS2 Classic. That means it's playable on PS3, but not Vita. If you need a portable fix of rollable crazy, there's always Touch My Katamari.
