SectionHUN
It's looks like a good and punishing platformer. IGN gave it a 6.3 out of 10 because when you die in the game, you have to start it from the beginning. Which is quite embarrassing. Although the trophies are looking good. Popular Post RHGSniperFox
Don't expect too many responses yet - the game doesn't actually release until the 28th. That said, having been playing it for a few days now - you don't exactly start back at the beginning - not in the traditional sense. You restart at the last hibernation chamber you slept in, and lose a bit of progress towards your end goal. You can prevent this loss by finding and eating a golden flower in any of the given areas - it basically acts as a continue. That was my biggest gripe with the game in my review - the fact that the progression system isn't super clear on how it really works or what any of it means. There's nothing that really tells you - you just know that you're supposed to try and eat, then hibernate before the rain comes. When you do, you make progress. You have to decide if going for a full food bar before hibernation is worth the risk - because you can die and lose what you got, or you can run out of time and get hit with the rain. And when you lose what you had - you lose it permanently, even after your progress rolls back. The food areas that were once there will still be gone. And you can get locked out of a new area because your karma fell too low and you can't bring it back up. This is where the game isn't clear - it doesn't really explain to you what your karma system is, or how losing it is extremely detrimental. That also isn't an embarrassing score - it's a fair one ( It's above average, honestly - read the full review, he makes it clear exactly what is flawed here ). I, personally, love the game - but it's definitely punishing and I can easily see how some would be turned off by the obtuse, skill-based progression system ( If you don't do well, then you don't get anywhere - if you continually do poorly, you'll fall back to the start. ) A bit like a Souls game or a roguelike in that regard - but a bit more harsh when you screw up. The animations, by their nature of being partly physics based and procedural, can also be a little wonky and results in things sometimes not quite working the way you want - like approaching a tunnel at a bad angle and not going into it, or having a bit of difficulty scaling a bump in the road. Overall, like I mentioned - I loved the game. However, there is definitely room for improvement in some aspects.
