Popular Post Elvick_
I really think people are overselling third party exclusives in this day and age, it doesn't even matter that it's funded by Nintendo either. There's a shelf life of every title, and Bayonetta isn't going to be a Mario Kart style game that sells millions 4+ years after it comes out. It'll sell stacked in the beginning with diminishing returns after. You'd get more returns by going back to where the series started [PS/Xbox] and to where it expanded [PC] than sales years after the games come out and re-re-re-releasing the first Bayonetta over and over. Mass Effect was funded by Microsoft and was never coming to PS3, and we all know how that went. We'll see how things go, Platinum clearly want more autonomy and I think they'll be working to make it so they have a bit more control on where their games go in the future. Hell, games like Helldivers, Quantic Dream's games, Flower, etc were funded by Sony and made their way to PC. And before someone responds saying it will never happen, spare me. People said the same thing about Tales of Symphonia too, even though there was a PS2 version in Japan people were convinced the fact Nintendo published in NA that it would never appear off Nintendo systems. And yes that's publishing vs funding development, but that's not the point. The point is that we don't know what the future actually holds. i'm not even saying it will absolutely happen, just that it's possible and we'll see eventually how things go. That said, fuck Sega for not greenlighting the sequel and avoiding this issue in the first place. It's put a huge damper on the growth of the series. Game sold over a million, for a new IP, for a Platinum game, for something so out there in terms of story and characters that's amazing. And they could have built off the sales of the original by leveraging the critical reception which was universal praise. But nah. I don't blame MS or Sony, why should they fund something that Sega should? It is what it is. We'll see in the future. I just don't see why it would make sense for these games to remain actual exclusives forever.
SliK6SiK
To add to what others have said and the examples given, nobody thought Cuphead would come to PS4 either and it just did recently. It was an asinine decision by Sega to not see the potential there but I'm keeping some hope alive for a nice trilogy physical special edition.
