Disco_Boy26
This may not be a true roguelike...but it sure feels like one. This game reminds me of being a newbie in Eve Online or Rust. One minute you are thinking you are okay next you are being smashed by unbeatable foes. Even in "easy" mode. I regret buying this. I should have researched further rather than go by the cool graphics and dogfight footage. I find Everspace to be a huge disappointment. I feel the crafting and ship upgrades are not explained and when mobs spawn it can be easily be 1 or 2 or just overwhelming odds. I find myself being aimless in this game not knowing what is of real value to mine or pick up. I feel this to be a boring but beautiful space flight simulator with random fighting and frequent deaths. True, you don't lose your credits from each 'run' but I find the constant dying to be a huge turn off. I do not recommend this game. HuntingFever
I like this game but I do agree that more in-game explanations of key mechanics would have been nice. Without a solid Guide, it's easy to get completely lost and not have a clue what you're supposed to be doing .
Popular Post ToasterBunny
My recommendation is to keep at it. Like many other rogue-lite games I didn't like it at first, but sticking with it because I loved games like Colony Wars and Freespace. Playing it for the first few nights I never even made it to the end of the first sector and every death felt terribly discouraging and would really piss me off. But finally, making it to Sector 2 felt monumental and then I got blown out of the sky. I had to approach the game with the expectation that I was not going to get far. After a few more upgrades and figuring out which ship and weapons best fit my play style, I felt like I had a winning strategy. And then I made it to Sector 3 and I was caught and killed numerous times by enemies and hazards I had never seen and I had no way of knowing how to deal with. This is the true cycle of the rogue-lite. Though I don't like this style of game, I love space flight games and this one has become one of my all-time favorites. This game has multiple times gotten me to shout "oh shit!" as the high-pitched missile alarm catches me by surprise or I suddenly realize I'm too close to a black hole. It has become an exhilerating game at times and also a calming game at times. Every now and then I'll throw on some Dynatron on Spotify and do another run at my own pace a specific upgrade rune will let you do this without worrying about being chased through the sector. Stick with it and if you find a good setup that you like, then I also recommend getting the Encounters DLC. It adds even more to discover - enemies, allies, quests, weapons, and a new ship.
