Undertale bucks a lot of genre tropes, and part of that is handling player stats like LV quite differently from other RPGs. Diving into those mechanics on a first playthrough isn't recommended. It really depends on which path you’re choosing to be honest, as final bosses of Genocide, Neutral, and Pacifist runs are completely different compared with each other. I can’t really remember the details but if you decide on choosing Pacifist run, just be aware of your LV/LOVE and EXP as this isn’t your typical level and experience points, but “Level of Violence” and “Execution Points”, and you’ll need to avoid hurting/killing every single enemy and bosses (and Genocide is the true opposite of Pacifist run).
