Fishing Tip

If you walk up to any body of water and wait a few seconds, it will tell you what habitat you are at, what fish you have already caught, or how many are missing. Plus it will also say whether or not you have completed that habitat.

 

Example is from my screenshot here. If you look on the left side of the screen, you can see I have completed the fish in this area. You can keep fishing at one pool of water until you get all the fish in that habitat. I'm assuming some bait may or may not have to be used at some point for particular fish, but I haven't done any.

If you're asking how to increase your odds of pulling the rare fish, hit R1 to change the bait. It'll tell you which bait is better to fish out each fish at the location.
