Tomoko Kuroki
I have been having random disconects and reconnects like once a week, its rare it happens but when it does Its only for like 5 seconds but its annoying. It makes sense if it was wireless, but im wired to the modem, I have no idea what could be the issue. Anyone have ideas?
MrManBuz
Could be your modem/router, or something to do with your ISP, why not give them a ring and tell them what you're experiencing. Edited October 26, 2014 by MrManBuz
BeautifulTorment
It means one or more of the following: 1. Your modem is starting to "go bad". 2. The lines outside bringing the internet to your home are slightly degraded. 3. One batch of encapsulated wires (splice points) outside may be soaking up a little bit of water when it rains, causing very brief "swinging" short circuits. 4. Your ethernet cord is old. 5. The cord between the modem and wall is damaged. 6. The connections inside the wall jack are loose. 7. The connections at the demarcation point outside your house are loose. Those are the biggest things I can think of. Most of which you can't do anything about.
Tomoko Kuroki
Yea I think I will tomorow, although I just realised im not connected to the modem, im connected wired yes, but to the router.\] What do you mean I can't do anything about it, if I call my isp they will come fix those issues if it is any of them no ? BeautifulTorment
Intermittant disconnections are by the far the most difficult and time-consuming to diagnose and correct. The first technician to your house will likely replace the modem because it is the easiest (and most probable) fix. I meant most of those things you can not personally correct, you'd need to call your ISP. Your problem is very small and they likely won't do much to try and correct it since it is so insignificant. Tomoko Kuroki
im connected directly in my router which is connected to my modem, and my internet random goes off for like 10 seconds, it drives me insane. The lights on the modem always stay lit, is the problem this stupid router ?
BeautifulTorment
I already told you the most plausible explanations. Like I said, intermittent disconnections are incredibly difficult to diagnose. There are so many variables it is impossible for anyone on here to be able to tell you exactly what the issue is. Guest
probably a bit late but if your house have electric problems it can disrupt modem power blah blah fluctuation which can interfere with line stability.
Lady Lilith
I had this problem a couple of years ago, think it vanished when I got a new modem and cable.
closertim
If it only happens once a week, for only 5-10 seconds at a time, then who really cares. There's 25000 + seconds in a week and your complaining you don't have internet for 10 of those.
ShadeSplit
Awhile ago I began to connect my notebook to the internet via Ethernet cable, and it would get disconnected. The first thing I did was update the LAN adapter drivers, and that happened to fix the issue.
