leading up to One Eye and Don Tonberry

So I'm at the stage where I'm working towards completing the sphere grids for all characters. I have access to the airship and everything. all the guides say I should focus on killing one eye to get weapons then onto Don Tonberry for AP. But what is the best way to farm AP to get up to the point where I can take on One eye without being destroyed. Also what gear should I be looking for. all besides Wakka and Tidus have the celestial Weapons fully upgraded. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Use anima 2 attacks kill one-eye after that use a quick set-up from youtube for don tonberry.

Increase Yuna's strength points to about 45. About 1 overdrive from Anima is all it should take to get One-Eye down and overkilled (for the extra sphere).

If you don't want to use Aeons, put Auron with his fully powered up Masamune in your party. You can fight One Eye and die and then redo it. I say to die first because then Auron will be 1 HP, and Masamune will make you do a lot more damage when you're lower % of health, and with first strike and a turn with Auron it should die. (This is how I did it anyway when I was first looking for TAP weapons).
