Fitzquaid
Like a lot of people here, I've collected a hefty backlog of games over time - bought on sale but never started, or played for one quick session and then forgotten, or abandoned after thirty hours when I decided to tackle some boring grind instead of just finishing the story. I want to finish more games instead of flaking out midway through. Games Started - 57 PS3 Beyond Good & Evil HD Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Infamous Mirror's Edge Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Tales of Graces f Tales of Xillia Tales of Xillia 2 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Yakuza 5 PS4 Alien: Isolation Amplitude Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Battleborn Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Darkest Dungeon Destiny Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Divinity: Original Sin Dragon Age: Inquisition Dying Light Helldivers Infamous: First Light Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Metro 2033: Redux Never Alone Overcooked Rogue Legacy Saints Row IV: Re-elected Saints Row: Gat out of Hell The Deadly Tower of Monsters The Last of Us Remastered The Walking Dead: Season 2 This War of Mine: The Little Ones Transistor Tropico 5 Valiant Hearts: The Great War Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Witcher 3: Wild Hunt XCOM 2 PS Vita Amnesia: Memories Atelier Rorona Plus CounterSpy Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited Final Fantasy X-2 HD Freedom Wars Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II Letter Quest Remastered Operation Abyss Oreshika Soul Sacrifice Delta Steamworld Heist Stranger of Sword City Tales of Hearts R XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus Games Beaten - 22 Story complete, credits rolled, won at least 50% of the trophies (or as many as I'm ever going to get) PS3 Beyond: Two Souls Demon's Souls Heavy Rain Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments Yakuza 3 Yakuza 4 PS4 Banner Saga Bloodborne Broken Age Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Dishonored Definitive Edition Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Firewatch Hitman - the episodes I own, at least Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor PS Vita Atelier Ayesha Plus Atelier Escha & Logy Plus Final Fantasy X HD Home Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel Natural Doctrine Persona 4 Golden Games 100% Complete - 21 PS3 Remember Me PS4 Everybody's Gone to the Rapture Game of Thrones Gone Home Infamous: Second Son Journey Life is Strange Murdered: Soul Suspect Tales from the Borderlands Until Dawn Virginia PS Vita Broken Sword 5 (Part 1) Code: Realize Day of the Tentacle Remastered Demon Gaze Grim Fandango Remastered Hatoful Boyfriend Lost Dimension Steins;Gate Virtue's Last Reward Zero Time Dilemma Boost Your Trophy Grades 2017 Spoiler E Grades Start 10 - Goal 5 or less - Current 10 Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland Battleborn Beyond Good & Evil HD Final Fantasy X-2 HD Rogue Legacy Steamworld Heist Tales of Hearts R Tales of Graces f Tales of Xillia 2 The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II D Grades Start 27 - Goal 10 or less - Current 26 Amnesia: Memories Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Dark Souls II: SOTFS Dark Souls III Darkest Dungeon Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited Dying Light Helldivers Home Infamous: First Light Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Metro 2033 Redux Mirror's Edge Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Saints Row: Gat out of Hell Soul Sacrifice Delta Stranger of Sword City The Deadly Tower of Monsters The Walking Dead: Season 2 Transistor Tropico 5 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Valiant Hearts: The Great War Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Yakuza 5 C Grades Start 11 - Goal 20 or less - Current 12 Alien: Isolation Call of Juarez: Gunslinger CounterSpy Destiny Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Freedom Wars Infamous Never Alone Saints Row IV: Re-elected Tales of Xillia The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt XCOM 2 Stats August 2016 Spoiler 76 games played - 16 E grades / 28 started / 16 beaten / 16 completed 44.54% Completion 1,648 Unearned Trophies End of October 2016 - pre "Kill Your Completion" Spoiler 82 games played - 7 E grades / 37 started / 20 beaten / 18 completed 46.99% Completion 1,731 Unearned Trophies 11 December 2016 - post "Kill Your Completion Spoiler 94 games played - 1 F grade / 7 E grades / 47 started / 20 beaten / 19 completed 45.34% Completion 1,975 Unearned Trophies Current (15 January 2017) Spoiler 100 games played - 57 started, 22 beaten, 21 completed 45.38% Completion 2,139 Unearned Trophies Edited January 15, 2017 by Fitzquaid Update for the new year
Fitzquaid
Taken from the original OP: I was tempted to join the brave souls in the Financial Year Backlog Challenge, but there are too many games coming out that I know I wouldn't be able to resist. Instead I've come up with some arbitrary totally well thought-out rules to try and start digging my way out of backlog hell. I'll earn the right to start one new game (anything that's not on my profile already) when I: Rescue three games from the E Grade Pit of Shame Complete the story and around 50% of the trophies in two games Take one game to 100% trophy completion Will this work out? No idea! E Grade Pit of Shame - 5/18 Goal of zero for the Boost Your Trophy Grades challenge Spoiler PS3 Beyond Good & Evil HD Mirror's Edge - Rescued 14 Sep 16 Tales of Xillia 2 Uncharted - Rescued 20 Nov 16 Yakuza 5 - Rescued 24 Oct 16 PS4 Amplitude - Rescued 26 Oct 16 Banner Saga - Rescued 01 Sep 16 Firewatch - Rescued 11 Sep 16 Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes - Rescued 20 Nov 16 Never Alone - Rescued 13 Aug 16 Rogue Legacy Transistor - Rescued 27 Sep 16 Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate - Rescued 27 Oct 16 PS Vita Counterspy - Rescued 03 Aug 16 Digimon Cyber Sleuth - Rescued 02 Oct 16 Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited - Rescued 30 July 16 Final Fantasy X-2 HD Tales of Hearts R Rescued: Never Alone - finished Chapter 4 to drag this out of the Grade E pile with 7/15 trophies. It's a cute enough little game, I should probably finish it. Now Playing: Yakuza 4 - I abandoned this in the endgame 'get ready to fight the final boss' chapter. I've been picking up some of the easy trophies I missed (which turn out to be surprisingly rare - must be the PS+ effect, I guess?) but I'll try to beat the game this week. Lost Dimension - working on my NG+ playthrough. Had to reload a backup save to avoid Toya being an early traitor for the second time in a row. Started: Dying Light - I had a cheap copy of the Enhanced Edition waiting on my shelf, calling to me. New Game Credit: 0 Rescues: 1 earned, 0/3 towards next Completion: 0 earned, 0/2 towards next 100%: 0 earned Used: 1 - Dying Light Which is fine, right? it's not like there's a new Deus Ex coming out next week. Nope. No problem at all. Edited January 15, 2017 by Fitzquaid Moved some content from the OP here
Fitzquaid
Beaten: Yakuza 4 - 28 of 49 trophiesI'm going to go out on a limb and say that leaving a story at the last chapter for the best part of two years isn't the ideal way to experience it, but I'm glad I went back to this anyway. The Yakuza games are my favourite ridiculous macho shirt-flinging crime dramas. Completed: Lost DimensionIt would be easy to be put off by the technical hitches, some odd design choices, or the huge roster of quirky characters dumped on you at the start of the game, but I honestly found it charming, and very rewarding to see just how much you can break the game open in the later stages. Now Playing: Dying Light - knocked out the co-op trophies yesterday which was fun Yakuza 5 - I get to start this now, woop woop. Deux Ex: Mankind Divided - tomorrow with any luck! New Game Credit: 1 Rescues: 1 earned, 0/3 towards next Completion: 0 earned, 1/2 towards next 100%: 1 earned Used: 1 - Dying Light Edited August 22, 2016 by Fitzquaid
XX_FTW
Wow. You've got some pretty good games waiting for you. The list seems manageable. Good luck!
Fitzquaid
Thanks for the encouragement, sorry I missed your post earlier. The last month was a bit of a write-off thanks to one of my eyes not being able to cope with exposure to light at all, which made most gaming really unappealing.Started: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - I disliked the tutorial mission, and I really don't care about Breach at all, but had fun with everything else. Made it about halfway through before being derailed by the whole eye meltdown. Amnesia: Memories - I'm okay with VNs but this one I haven't clicked with so far. Free is a good price, though. Rescued: Banner Saga - I was looking for something laidback that I could play while feeling like garbage. Firewatch - Ditto. Mirror's Edge - Just cherry-picking easy trophies. I haven't properly got to grips with this one yet, the controls are so idiosyncratic. Beaten: Banner Saga - Turns out this was the perfect game for me to play while miserable; it really clicked this time and I ended up binging through to the end. I'll pick the sequel up at some point. Final Fantasy XIV - I'm going to move this to Beaten because I'm up to 19/39 trophies. I don't have an active sub and I'm not planning to go back, so this is probably as complete as it's going to get. Rescues: 1 earned, 0/3 towards next Beaten: 1 earned, 1/2 towards next 100% Completion: 0 earned Used: 2 - DX:MD, Amnesia Credits Available: 1 Edited October 3, 2016 by Fitzquaid
Fitzquaid
Some time off work meant I got to play a bit more last week. Started: Virginia - I heard such good / interesting things about this, I had to check it out. Darkest Dungeon - Backed the Kickstarter for this on PC back in the day, but never got around to playing it. The interface takes some getting used to, but it's a nifty game so far. Rescued: Transistor Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Beaten: Firewatch - I was expecting this to be 100%, but they'd added new trophies in the meantime. Sneaky!Completed: Virginia - Easily my fastest ever platinum. I really liked it, but I enjoy 'experience'-games and story-games and so on - I can see why some people wouldn't care for it at all. Rescues: 0 earned, 2/3 towards next Beaten: 1 earned, 0/2 towards next 100% Completion: 1 earned Used: 2 - Virginia, Darkest Dungeon Credits Available: 1 Edited October 3, 2016 by Fitzquaid
Fitzquaid
Checking in, checking in. Started: This War of Mine: The Little Ones - I haven't got very far into it, but it feels like The Sims set in a horrifying modern civil war. Which is different.Rescued: Yakuza 5 - I'm still in the first chapter, but so far I really like the move to multiple smaller cities. Mooching around a relatively small town with Kiryu is a nice change from being thrown straight into Kamurocho.Beaten: Natural Doctrine - Probably not a good game, and super hard to recommend to anyone, but i'm glad I played it; it was an interesting challenge. Starting out, I bounced off the game at least twice before I managed to get my head around how it actually worked. The back half was a cakewalk in comparison (although ask me how often I had Geoff teamkill someone with the Sky God's Gun...). Rescues: 1 earned, 0/3 towards next Beaten: 0 earned, 1/2 towards next 100% Completion: 0 earned Credits Used: 1 - This War of Mine Credits Available:
Fitzquaid
Rescued: Amplitude - The music doesn't have the same appeal for me as, say, Rock Band, and the controls took some getting used to, but this is unsurprisingly well made and rewarding. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate - Picked up a few super easy trophies just to get out of E rank. I don't really have time / inclination to play this properly at the moment. Every few years I think I might enjoy a musou game, but maybe they're not for me. So it's been an interesting three months, but strict rationing of new games and following arbitrary self-imposed rules has started to lose its appeal. I'm going to sign up for November's 'Kill Your Completion' event and see how that goes. Edited October 30, 2016 by Fitzquaid

AffectatiousDonk
Great idea, some fantastic games you have gotten through and more still to come. I like your 50% idea. I usually try to play a game to at least my current completion average (39ish%), by then I know whether I am going to be able to/want to plat it.

That seems like a good way of approaching games. The 50% thing was the same general idea, just a rough marker for 'I've probably seen a good amount of this game and know if it's for me or not'. I need to update this with the games I played for November's Kill Your Completion event, will get on that today.
Fitzquaid
So, November was Kill Your Completion month, and I have plenty more games to add to my backlog. I should probably feel bad about that... Started: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (no real plans to keep playing this unless I break my leg or something) Letter Quest Remastered Metro 2033 Redux Murdered: Soul Suspect Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands The Deadly Tower of Monsters The Walking Dead: Season 2 E Grade Pit of Shame: Tales of Graces f (despite spending longer with it than any of the other games in the event) F Grade Pit of "What the hell, not even one trophy?": The Last of Us Remastered 100% Complete Journey I also made time for some none-KYC related games here and there: Rescued: MGS V: Ground Zeroes (I don't know why I can't get into this one, not a huge MGS fan but I liked 3 and Peacewalker) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (mostly involved messing around in the first scene on the boat getting specific melee kills) Started: Home (it sounded like an interesting little game, wish I hadn't bothered) E Grade Pit of Shame: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II I think that brings my list up to date, more or less. As it's getting close to the end of the year, I've admitted defeat on the goal of zero E grades by December 31st (), so I probably need to reorganise my list of games in the first post. I'm going to wait and see if Olimoo hosts another Boost Your Trophy Grades event for 2017, though. In the meantime I've signed up for the Winter Backlog Challenge to get a few (short) games to 100% by the end of February, and the Vita's birthday event to complete a game on February 22nd, so those should give me something to focus on. Fitzquaid
I want to overhaul the OP, but here's a general progress update for the last month. Started: Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland Steamworld Heist I wanted to keep my trophy streak going while I was away for Christmas with no time to actually play games, so I ended up starting both of these just to get the super-easy tutorial trophies. Emergency gaming rations. Helldivers Overcooked Battleborn Co-op gaming over the holidays. We made it to the final level in Overcooked but didn't get all the way through... next time, next time... XCOM 2 Christmas present, woop woop. Beaten: Broken Age - I just have the speedrun left to get this to 100% for the Winter Backlog Challenge. 100% Completed: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture Murdered: Soul Suspect I've posted my thoughts about these elsewhere - neither of them were all-time greats for me, and Soul Suspect especially had some serious flaws, but I found things to enjoy in both.
