Gaming Session or We/Let's Play, which to create?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I've just reobtained The Crew and wanted to get a PSNP crew going again. (I don't want to use a gaming session for lots of reasons, so if you're only here to suggest that then feel free to not post anything instead as that's not constructive to the question I have)

Last year, I tried to get a general crewmember finding thread going but it was shut down on because boosting threads weren't allowed (even though there's still some open boosting threads that are even pinned, but whatever).

So, I tried to figure out a solution about getting people together who play occasionally without having to resort to PMs or gaming sessions. So I figured, either a continuous event or a let's play could do the trick.

... Problem is, I haven't really got a clue about what a "Let's Play" is, or needs to be on this site. There's a We Play FAQ pinned in the event forum but as far as I can tell it's just a specific event, not something helpful for me.

Which one of the two would be better to use in this instance? My goal is to get people with the game together in one event, putting suggested play hours in the OP. I don't need any more of the multiplayer trophies (I have all but one or two and I'm fine with never getting those), but I don't mind if other people use the event for trophies and I don't mind helping them.

And this is why boosting threads should be allowed, because gaming sessions are great for a lot of things, but they have flaws like being a one-and-done type deal whereas a thread is eternal. Threads have flaws too, like being less organized than sessions, which is why having both in harmony with each other would be a great thing.

A "We Play" is an event, generally hosted by @Superbuu3 (not sure if anyone else has done one yet) where people group together to play through a game. It's different from a boosting group because they often play single-player only games like Okami/Velocity 2X and set checkpoints so nobody falls behind while they discuss the game as they play through together.

So really, gaming sessions are your only option unfortunately unless you go to other sites.

Didn't know that only they could do We Plays, thanks for the info. So that doesn't work as this is about playing together but not about getting through the story.

Well, there's still the option of a general event... I could set one up for now until the end of the year, see who joins, and start suggesting times to play together. Something like the Mario Kart event I have. At least, I hope events like this would be allowed for PlayStation games, and that my Kart event is not only allowed because it's a game you can't create gaming sessions for.

I think the main difference is that for a We Play, most of the collaboration happens in the thread itself as opposed to a boosting session where your aim is to collaborate in-game. So if you're plan is to just find people to play with then you would need to create an ongoing boosting session (maybe even move over to PSN chat, discord etc. as you find players). If you want to create a little community discussing your journey to play/finish a game then I don't see why you couldn't start a thread in the Community Events sub-forum.

Yeah it's definitely more out-of-game socialising like the latter of your situations. Our Mario Kart group is discussion all kinds of other stuff along the way as well. I'm not really looking for people who just want their trophies and get out again... I played the Landmark Tour with others twice already (done for Enduring Spirit trophy), longest race in the game, three or four hours, and I don't mind helping more people with it because I think it's so awesome that a race that big, with so many different landscapes, exists in the game.

I also think the time is right for a thread like this right now; what with the sequel finally being announced there will be more people planning to continue on the first game and willing to chat about both the first game and what could be in the sequel, while driving around together.
