High jumps

So I was trying to get both gems in Piston It Away while following a walkthrough because this level is quite the pain.

At some moment in the level you need to backtravel to the deathroute earlier in the level and you come across a high obstacle.

The player in the video did not slay an enemy like I did which would let him jump over rather easily (ref: https://youtu.be/dTPN-Lqe8Pg?t=4m20s).

So I was stuck figuring out a way to jump to the ledge without an enemy and BAM, I just flew past it with a great combo:

 

 + -> ->

run + slide -> jump -> spin

 

Maybe everyone knows about this but I couldn't find it in the guide

 

PS: You can also "save" deathroutes by going in them and die which is also useful for Piston It Away.

I prefer using R1 for sliding so I don't have to roll my thumb. It's very consistent performing high jump or dash spin with this method. Though this requires clawing (I think this is the term for using two fingers on shoulder buttons), which is not a technique most modern games use anymore.
