Tales of Xillia release date set for US, poor Vita sales cited as lack of Vita title localizations.

Hideo Baba, the producer and director of the Tales series of role-playing games, is preparing for the North American release of Tales of Xillia on August 6. But the developers have no intention of bringing certain other titles to the West.

"Unfortunately, at this present time we don't have any plans to release any of the Vita titles," Baba told Kotaku. "One of the main reasons is, unfortunately, the PlayStation Vita is doing relatively poorly in North America, so it's one of those things that if the numbers increased considerably, then it's something we could consider."

However, he said fans should "please look forward to more announcements."

While Baba thinks "the Wii U is a brilliant console that offers a lot of innovation and possibility for new types of gameplay," the developer doesn't have plans for the Wii U, next Xbox, or PlayStation 4 at the moment, either. It looks like the series is sticking close to the PlayStation 3 console — at least for now.

"Foremost, we just want to make sure that we're able to provide the next titles on a console that a lot of our fans already have," he said. "So basically there's just a lot of things that we keep bringing to the plate, whether it's stories or characters, whatever console it may be, we want to make sure we bring the best to the fans."

Let's hope Sony gives the US and Europe the price cut that Japan got, and maybe even cut the cost of the 32GB memory card, then sales would skyrocket, especially after Soul Sacrifice and others hit later this year. I mean, look at the 3DS and how well that's doing after a price cut.

Sort of gutted about the Vita games, but completely understand. Cant wait for tales of Xillia, ive loved every single tales of game so far and this one is supposed to be the best one yet!

Really happy to see that Xiliia has a date set, but the news about the Vita games is unfortunate, the more time that passes the less likely we are to get these. Realistically though, if they didn't give us the DS versions of Innocence or Hearts, which was one of the best selling handhelds of all time, what are our odds of getting the Vita ports? Looks like I'll just have to import if I want these two...
