Just bought the game and have a couple of questions

Recommended Posts

Got a few more quests done and stuff. I can definitely see why I came back to the game.

level 28 now with strider build as I keep forgetting to switch to assassin. But still got some good combat going for me. I made a save just to see what assassin had but didn't realise it has a whole new moves set which then means you lose all the points put into strider. Might still go ahead and change to assassin though.

About to do the Cypher quest but the frikkin joypad needs charging lol.

Also gonna look at new armour as this blue suit thing doesn't suit my RP character, but it does have good stats.

Not sure if this works to get your attention or if I have done it wrong.

In the original release I remember there was a romance option which a lot of people got screwed by as it gives no indication of who you fancy the most. I did the farewell Valmiro or whatever he's called and it gave me the affinity trophy.

How do I make it so that I can choose a woman instead?

Yeah, quoting works fine.

For the romance thing, the last person who you've reached max affinity with will be your new romance. To get the one you want, give the Arisen's Bond (obtained from the side quest Dragon's Tongue) to the NPC you want before completing the main quest Deny Salvation (stage 6) the moment you complete it, a cutscene will show who has been kidnapped. If you gave that person the Arisen's Bond, it's dropped and you can pick it up again and gift it.

Cheers man.

Changed my armour up and upgraded it as much as I can, but once I get a tonne of money thats when I will have a shopping spree at the Black Cat. Some very juicy sets sold there.

Also changed to Assassin. I get now what moves have started fresh. Lets you keep the strider stuff for daggers, but a few of the core skills have gone like double jump and the stamina halved.

EDIT

@Dragon-Archon

Just finished final battle and got some awesome stuff. Forgot how awesome that fight was and a majority of the game for that matter. Got some new awesome daggers and next will be going back to the aftermath of Gran Soren.

i don't think so. You can check the game's wiki for more info in equipment and quests

Yeah it was fine.

Just finished my first playthrough and ended up at level 52.

The story behind the Arisen is very well done, but then sections of the story have massive big huge gaping holes in them. That being said, this game has some of the best ending features to ever have appeared in a video game.

Just started my hard playthrough. Made a heavier player this time but his neck looks weird. Its a shame they charge rift crystals in order to afford to change your appearance in game. This should always be a standard feature as mistakes can be made which the game then renders weird come gameplay time.

As for the Everfall. I think its a great area, but the timing and requirements end the flow towards the end. That being said I love some of the boss battles in there. Except that frikkin uber hydra thing. Man that took ages. Still not tackled the Ur Dragon yet, but for good reason.

Frikkin love how it allows you to keep all your stuff for multiple playthroughs though. Not since Mass Effect 2 have a I played a game well past trophy completion (completed ME2 32 times in total.... oh yeah), but I think with the amount of loot and upgrades in this game I will no doubt be going for 4+ playthroughs. Besides which there are no other games I wish to play as of yet.

Just wanted to say thanks yourself, @Dragon-Archon and all others who posted in this thread to offer help and advice.

Cheers everyone.

Yes mate. Had no probs. Cheers for all the mission info.

Going through hard mode now and did an escort quest and got given an item which doubles XP so I presume I am to save those for when grinding the level 200 exploit?

At what point would you recommend starting the boost? Currently level 55 and just got to Gran Soren on hard mode. Also any other info on the boost would be appreciated if you have the time, or links.

EDIT

Gah! So far not a fan of Bitterblack Island or whatever its called. First off I hate that its switched currency to RC's. Played through the main game for 34 hours I think it was at the end and only got around 7k worth... Gah!

Also it seems I am very under leveled. Got to a section where there is a ginormous cyclops chained to a wall with its weapon on the ground. Went in the room and got knocked down by a gargoyle which then killed me in the next hit. Retried, same thing. Went back to the main game. Gonna play through the main game to around level 70 to see if that makes BBI a touch easier to handle.

BBI is intended for players who had already platinumed the vanilla game, so at the very least finish the second playthrough and defeat the Ur-Dragon. You'll receive lots of rift crystals on BBI, enemies can drop it and I believe it's also rewarded from completing BBI side quests.

As for information on farming Death, I wrote my farming method here. Just scroll down to the Dark Arisen content.

Cheers man, appreciated info as per usual.

1: Getting all kinds of screwed on hard play through. Game has crashed a couple of times, usually at the end of a quest meaning I had to do it all over again.

2: I appreciate hard is supposed to be hard, but a goblin killing me in two hits???

3: The drake at Shadow Fort screwed me over. Got it right down to an inch of health and all over a sudden it vanished and I got my first ever fail quest. Piece of s**t man haha.

4: The trophy for 'The Knave' is not unlocking for me. Used the forger on my first play through and now my second playthough and still it hasn't unlocked. Any ideas?

That sucks, I never had those crashes or bugs.

I wouldn't recommend doing BBI on Hard, but it's up to you. I recommend to finish NG+ on Hard, start NG++ on Normal or Speedrun mode, change your vocation as soon as possible (Encampment for advanced vocations, Gran Sore for hybrid vocations), go back to Cassardis, and use the special Rift Stone to defeat the Ur-Dragon. Once that's done, go explore Bitterblack Isle.

That's weird. What kind of things did you gave to the forger? IIRC I unlocked the trophy after obtaining a fake wakestone shard.

Cheers again Big-Man.

I did some mooching about and found out why' The Knave' didn't unlock and most are saying it has to be a quest specific item. After reading that I forged the gold idol and when collecting it the trophy popped.

Oh and loadsa random s**t has been happening since then. Cyclops's vanishing mid fight and giving me the failed quest screen, then re-appearing with the damage that I already took off them. Some very odd bugs occurring.

Don't I have to play BBI on hard to do the death xp grind though? But yeah I did want to finish hard and then drop the difficulty to normal to experience BBI. if the hard grind xp annoys me. I dunno yet though. Some enemies I can take a beating from, but the majority are 1-2 hit killing me. Next boss fight will be the griffin and then the big red dragon after that. Want to get some new gear though in order to get the wrym fire upgrades as Gregori or whatever he is called upgrades your entire equipped set. Still not got the dragon veins upgraded yet though.

Also I wanted to ask.

I saw a dagger move which looks awesome. I was searching something and now can't find it again, but it shows your character doing a rapid somersault spin whilst slicing and dicing the enemy. Any ideas which move it could be because I don't think its an upgrade move in the base game.

Ok, good to know the trophy unlocked.

That is odd. I never encountered those bugs, so can't help you with those.

Hard mode yields twice as much exp, but it's also much harder to stagger enemies.

Hmm, it's been a while, so I don't know for certain, but it might be Easy/Masterful Kill.

Managed to find it again. It seems its a move for a strider. Its called 'Brain Splitter' and can be combined with a strider ring or something to get in even more hits. Gonna check it out when I go back on as its not an assassins move.

Just beat big Greg on hard mode. I wore a new set of gear as to have a change from the first gear playthrough which was dragon forged. But I also got stiffed. I have this awesome sword and wanted to get that and a shield DF'd just in case I wish to mix it up at some point. Got Big Red down to 0 health but couldn't get to his heart. He did one tap and 1 hit killed me.

Retried and this time destroyed him too quickly with the bow and strength enchantments. But at least I got the dragon vein daggers DF'd now.

The XP on hard is weird. On my first playthrough on easy I did all quest and finished the game at level 53 I think it was. Now I still have the everfall to do on hard, but I'm only level 77. Only side quests I didn't do this time is the female bandits and search party. Might get an extra level or two from some everfall battles though. Actually dreading grinding for level 200 lol.

Congrats with beating hard difficulty :yay: .

Well, you need more EXP to reach higher levels and you're overleveled for most of the game, so gaining 24 levels during NG+ without playing BBI is pretty impressive. Defeating the Ur-Dragon will also give a good amount of EXP. Leveling up isn't that bad. The first time I defeated Death, I went from somewhere around lvl 90 to somewhere between 110-120 and that was without exp modifiers.

Cheers man.

Just had my first encounter with Ur Dragon. Do you reckon they pressed the wrong key and meant it to be called Dr Dragon.... Mwahahaahar... *ahem* sorry about that.

Anyway I didn't even get killed or anything but had to quit out because the camera is horrific in that place. Spinning all over the place and creating clipping and kinds of crap. So I will just earn the wakestones the grind way and finish up hard mode.

I wanted to make the speedrun my last trophy, but now I think the plan will be to boost ex at BBI on normal, then when stupidly overpowered I will go back and slay that f**king Ur Dragon. Shame too as I was looking forward to an epic battle but the camera on that small map really f**ks the whole thing up. I like how you still get exclusive rewards for hard mode though. Got something called Abyssisal vest or something. Didn't wear it though as it clashed with my dashing pants :D

Lol , I always thought it was from the German word "ur", which means "original" or "primitive".

Yeah, IIRC Hard mode also gives the duke's outfit. I like the Oblivion armour set from BBI a lot. It looks pretty stylish. My only gripe is that the head piece covers the entire face.

I know most questions have been answered by now, but I'd like to suggest this for anyone reading through this thread if you wish to get a very easy to understand path to :gold: The Hero. Read the following chart on this page https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Quests

It states when each main quest and sidequests starts, when sidequests can fail or no longer acquired and there are also individual links for each of the quests with detailed walkthrough for those.

If you have any question about Dragon's Dogma, please feel free to tag me here. I think after 600 hours of playing it, I gathered some good knowledge :D

Its a shame the two costumes from the original game never carried over, but looked them up and the licence for them ran out and guess it would have been costly to renew. One of them was proper awesome.

Well just got the hard trophy and for the second playthrough. Already started the third and I am now level 83.

Had another go at Dr Dragon *s♥s* and again that sommovabitch screwed me over. This time he perched on a tower like he was trying to hatch his eggs, came down for a bit and then flew off again but for good this time. Well pissed me off. I demand vengeance!!!

Oh yeah that move. I always found that BS since the fights are timed. One time Ur did that 2-3 times during one fight <_< .

Indeed.

I watched a vid of a strider class do it in under 6 minutes but he must have been really high level and good gear because one-two full spins from Brain Splitter move and he took a heart down. So as I said I will probably have to come back to that. I think my next move is going to be BBI. Not just for the XP but for something different as I've been through the main game twice in a row and need to see some new stuff.

But now its time to watch the 3 episodes of Fist of the North Star.

That character was most likely lvl 200. I tried the offline Ur-Dragon too at that level as a Ranger and managed to defeat it in 6-7 minutes using only Tenfold Arrow. Felt really great to destroy that boss. If only the online version was that easy to kill.

Have fun with Fist of the North Star.

Mwahahhar. Oh man. FotNS was so bad its good............. Nah just kidding it was frikkin awful haha.

Did a lot better on progress with BBI today. Last day of holiday time off work so enjoyed it. Beat that Gazer thing, explosive arrows with that strength upgrade thing makes cheese of anything. Then on the next part you come to a bridge and death appears again, but even with the spell and potion perks I couldn't cause him to fall down, and I get what you mean now by the lack of stagger on hard mode as he only fell once he was on the bridge and then he disappeared.

Decided to go back to the main game and do some potion and talisman shopping as well as stocking up on juicy explosive arrows. Will be a couple of days until I can play it again though due to work and stuff.
