Do wins count in local coop?

I'm awful at this game so I have to build up lives before I take on the boss in "izzy" mode. I was wondering, though, if I could cut my playthroughs in half by adding a second player local co-op during the final boss and finishing the game. Would that count as a win for both characters?

iv been doing this for my playthrought on hard (it really help finish the boss spamming both player special) but i dont think it cound as finishing it with both only first player count

that mean a lot of boring playthrought and grind

Yes you can do this on the ps3 version. In fact you can do it for 4 characters at a time if you have enough controllers. Just get the final boss down to like 5% health and then have to other characters join. After you beat the boss those character will count as having cleared the game.
