What counts as Furniture and Decorations?

Was playing this yesterday (have yet to jump into it today), and I swear some of the furniture I wanted to use didn't count. Like say, a shelving unit. I put one down and the counter didn't you know, count it.

 

So what actually counts as furniture to place down? As well as what counts as decorations?

 

I mean yeah, I guess you can just place a bunch of tables down and it counts, but it's still hard to tell when the categories are just pictures and no names highlighted over the categories themselves.

If I remember right, Decorations are everything under the Plant icon but I can't remember which tab the Furniture is under . All you do is try something from each tab until the counter updates .
