Popular Post HamiTosh
I used the search function and didnt find a post for this. So to give some tips and remember people, because we should conserve our precious PS3s to give them a longer life: 1. Give your PS3 enough breathing space! Improsining your PS3 in a vitrine or in the TV-Lowboard is not good. Keep the PS3 of a surface, elevate it,so air can circulate under it and so the side vents can actually work better 2. After the warranty ran out, watch some take-a-part videos, open your PS3, take photos sort each screw and piece and start cleaning it from dust, especially the heat sink and the fan 3.Apply new thermal paste and thermal pads, after years of heating and cooling the material probably gets worn, it doesnt really cost much maybe 20 bucks if at all, to thermally renovate ur PS3 to prolong its life 4.While most would say it doesnt make a difference, I swapped my HDD for an SSD as I believe an SSD is way cooler than a HDD which could heat up from mechanical work 5. your PS3 is not a server, dont let it run all day! give it enough rest. 6.When you re done playing dont turn off the console right away, let it idle to give it time to push the warm air out 7.Cover your PS3 with a towel when its off, this will prevent most of the dust to get in, in the first place 8.clean your room, vaccuum it regularly, a PS3 is also a passive dust sucker, so if ur room is is dusty the dust also makes it into ur PS3. also try not to smoke next to your PS3 9.A hot room automatically, gives a higher starting temperature for the PS3, so cool your room or play less on hot days 10. As the disc drive is one of THE things which re very important for gaming, keep it the Discs clean before inserting, dont freaking frisbee the discs into the disc drive, gently push the disc in a little and as soon as the drive grabs it let it be 11.Dont murder ur USB-Ports! putting in the the connectors at slightly uneven angles or ripping cables out fast are not gonna do good to the ports, take ur time and do it with precision.Buying a USB-Hub might also be a good idea, since over the years thousands of plugins and plugouts could erode the material 12.Same goes for the USB,LAN-Port and power cable be gentle with them. These are all tips I could think of now, if you can add something let me know. Long live your PS3s Edited May 23, 2022 by HamiTosh
FreshFromThaDeli
Another tip is to regularly perform Disc cleanup and rebuild database options accessed through the safe menu. Rebuild database also works on PS4. I do this every 6 months.

Gscorpio14
When I was gaming on the PS3 a lot I generally tried to not have the PS3 on for more than 5-6 hours at a time. Also, I won't run it in a temp over 77 without A/C, and you don't want the A/C to be facing any electronics that intake air or all the dust in the air will be blown directly into it. Every time the PS3 crashes and wants to restore file system I make sure to always skip it by pressing O. I read somewhere that this restore actually makes the HDD corrupt and get worse over time. Also I will never rebuild the database ever again because the one time I did, it only made the HDD stutter a lot worse, so bad that I actually had to replace the HDD with a new one. Nowadays I only get to play the PS3 about once a week. With regards to prolonging the life of the internal power supply should I leave it in standby (red light on) when not using it or should I keep switching it off/on from surge protector every time I use it (1x week)?
