Popular Post Charizarzar
Hey PSNP! Welcome back to another Member Interview! Our current interviewee is @Pumpkin Head Cthulhu! UmbraCthulhu Standard Questions How did you come up with your PSN name? My original name (Dark Harmonixer) I got from the game Shadow Hearts 1 and I was always a Lovecraftian fan, hence the new name (Umbra Cthulhu). The Dark and Umbra moniker comes from me preferring to stay in the shadows. What games convinced you get your PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4? PS3 - Star Wars Force Unleashed, Darksiders, Conan, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma PSVita - Spyhunter and Senran Kagura PS4 - Akiba’s Trip Undead and Undressed and Shadow of Mordor What are your top 5 game series and why? Legacy of Kain - the story is top-notch Darksiders - the way each game is different and still manages to retain the same feel Senran Kagura - the gameplay is just tons of fun Resident Evil - while the series has gone downhill, the classics are still great games Akiba’s Trip - The game is just crazy fun What are your top 5 games and why? Dragon’s Dogma - Smooth gameplay and a good size world that is not too big keeps me coming back to play it quite regularly. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition - While the game is great, it is the “What If” chapters that really make it stand out. Silent Hill 3 - Still my favorite of the Silent Hill series and it completes the story that started with the original. Resident Evil Remake - The perfect Resident Evil game, taking the old and improving on it in every way. It is still a blast to play despite its age. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem - The story and the sanity effects are great, I would love to see the game get a 1-1 remake (just graphically and maybe tweak the controls). Plus playing in different eras to show how the story takes place over such a long span of time. Which unreleased game(s) are you looking forward to the most and why? Showa American Story The teaser caught my interest but the silence since has me a bit worried. Ganblue Fantasy Relink I enjoyed the anime series and the game does look pretty good. Do you have any other hobbies outside of gaming? Reading, bicycling, exercise, motorcycling. Top 5 TV shows, Movies, and/or anime, why, and would you recommend them to people? Dark City - Interesting movie that was overshadowed by The Matrix Berserk - It is a great series; too bad it is incomplete Yu Yu Hakusho - Such a fun series; too bad they never re-dubbed Poltergeist Report with the actors from the series The Romero Living Dead Saga (mainly Night, Dawn and Day) - The classic Ghoul series In The Mouth of Madness - One of John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy and a great Lovecraftian movie While they are not for everyone, I would recommend them. Top 5 favorite music bands/group/artists/composers/OST? Disturbed (got to see them in concert as well twice), they even signed the “That Guy” Funko Pop my nephew bought for me. Some amazing songs and my favorite song by them is "Serpentine" from their Asylum album. Basil Poldouris - He has done some great work and his scores include Conan, Starship Troopers, and RoboCop to name a few. Trevor Jones - Another great composer from Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Excalibur, and Dark City to name a few. 3 Doors Down - Their first 2-3 albums were great with some of their best songs, including my favorite song by them, “Behind Those Eyes”. Linkin Park - I really liked their first 2 albums, the rest were ok. Your favorite platinum and why? Darksiders series, it is a great series with fun gameplay reminiscent of Devil May Cry and Zelda. Your least favorite platinum and why? Magus, I played it because it was a quick and easy plat during the time when Sony gave you points and those points could get you PSN cards. Have you ever been tempted to switch over to the Xbox/Nintendo/PC gaming ecosystems? No to Xbox cause I hate their controller, it feels like it is always going to give me carpel tunnel syndrome and the games I would want to play are not on their system. Nintendo does not let me back up my saves to a USB (just like the new generations). I do not want to put THAT much work and money into a PC. I did get a Zelda Switch OLED at a discounted price though. If you could have one game from any gaming generation be remade or re-released, which one would it be and why? That is a tough call as there are several, but for a simple re-release be it a port or a remaster, I would say Demon’s Crest. As for a remake, Parasite Eve, but I do not trust any company would do it justice and they would screw it up just like RE2 Re-Imagining (unpopular opinion I know). How far are you willing to go for a platinum? Not very as I actually hate trophies so I mainly game on an offline dummy account and only play certain games on my primary account. If I really enjoy a game or series then I play it directly on my main account. If you could give Sony direct feedback on business decisions in the last year, and the latest console generation, what would you tell them? The ability to back up saves to a USB drive and to stop forcing censorship on the developers. What is your favorite thing about PSNP? The overall community is friendly and helpful. What is your least favorite thing about PSNP? No checklist on the games I am playing, PS3trophies has this feature and it is the only reason I still use that site as well. Is there anyone in the PSNP Community you would like to give a shout-out too, and if so, why? The guide team themselves for making sure guides are thoroughly checked before submission. Community Questions Was there ever a trophy guide you started writing but then abandoned? Why? Ghostbusters, I found out that there was already a great guide on this site. Describe your most interesting or exciting conflict you’ve had with a bad customer/shoplifter. I have only ever had 1 guy take a swing at me, then his girlfriend said “you are weird for walking up to random people”. I just said “I am not the one stealing” then she ran after him. I have been called racist a couple of times. There is one that was very hilarious though. It was actually my partner that made the stop. A lady was ripping open game controllers. She concealed both controllers on her person. We made the stop and got both her and her boyfriend into the office. She requested that we turn around so she could “remove the other controller” So we all turn around and her boyfriend even gets ups and turns his back as well. All of a sudden we hear a very loud voice say “My PU*** smells great” and her boyfriend had a picture perfect Rodney Dangerfield “Shocked” look on his face. Is there a particular game(s) you’ve played that had an impact on you in someway? Perhaps one that helped you cope during a period of struggle, or one that made you see video games in a different way, etc. The Legacy of Kain series because the writing was so much better than anything else and it still holds up today. It really showed how games can really be artwork. What type of motorcycle do you own? I'm interested to know. Also, what made you get your current job? I was asked by the AP/LP manager if I was interested in the job and I had a good run, somewhere between 7 and 8 years. It has been interesting and I will miss the job, however, I could not pass up the opportunity that was presented to me. The new job is less physical stress and a lot higher pay (almost double what I currently make). As for the motorcycle I have a 2014 Honda CTX700 Cruiser along with a Grim Reaper Helmet and a Pumpkin Helmet (hence where the new name came from), If I can, I will add pics. What is/was your favourite generation of gaming? Is there anything you miss from the 70s or 80s? Tough call between SNES and PS2. In the 70s and 80s it feels like they tried to be more innovative, whereas today they just make what is “easy”. If something today sells very well and makes money other companies just try to mimic that game over and over again. What got you into guide writing? Just trying to be helpful What guide of yours are you most proud of? Dead or School, it is the only guide to win an award. What's a beloved game of yours that doesn't have trophies? Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem if we are counting any system followed by the Legacy of Kain series. Can you give a piece of critique about a game or franchise that you otherwise love? Legacy of Kain series - the combat could use an overhaul. While it works fundamentally, from Soul Reaver onwards it feels more like an afterthought, though they did try to improve it in Defiance. What features would you like to be introduced for guide creators? Not really for the creators, an option to “remove” earned trophies it could be helpful when using the guide itself. Check a box and the trophy would be hidden from view while you are using the guide. Do you have a gaming-related hot take/unpopular opinion you can share? The only ones I can think of are that Resident Evil 2 Re-Imagining is not a very good representation of Resident Evil 2. With a few name changes it could have been a new entry in the series, but as Resident Evil 2 it is terrible. Still a fun game though, same with the Re-Imagining of RE3. Change a few names and they could have been new entries. Souls games - while fun, the controls are very sluggish and clunky, which was a design choice to “enhance” difficulty. Even using lightweight weapons and armor it feels like you are trudging through molasses. I am also not a fan of digital only as it makes game preservation impossible. If they want to take the game away from you even though you paid for it then they can just take it from you. Digital does have its pros, however, I will stick with physical. What would be the best and worst video game worlds to live in? Worst would be Nosgoth from Legacy of Kain as it is one of the most desolate worlds. Best would be Star Wars as there are so many planets to choose from (kind of a cheat I know) Is there a franchise you’re interested in but are yet to dip your toe into? Not that I can think of right now Food heaven and hell? Hell: fish as I have never had a taste for seafood Heaven: this is a tough one as there are so many good options What's your go to beverage? Southern Style Sweet Tea If you could choose any game to get a sequel, prequel, or midquel, which game would it be and why? A final single player Darksiders game to wrap up the story started in part 1 What's a game you wish you could wipe your memory of so you could experience it fresh all over again? Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. The game is so much fun and the sanity effects are hilarious. ____________________________________________________________________ Thank you to all who participated in asking questions in this interview!
