 Back on the board with a pair of sub-1% rarity sport platinums to bring me to 41/50!

 

Backbreaker was a fun plat and not too challenging. I was actually able to semi-afk a significant portion of this while I worked on other games. It's a relatively short game and even the online is not too taxing, so it's a good sub-1% for people to try out if you are into that kind of thing. I actually like it as an alternative to Madden, and I wish they would've made more games in the series.

 

I finally finished NBA 2k24's grind as well. This was pretty bad due to the MyCareer and The W mode grinds, both of which are mindless tedium with no interesting challenges or progression to mix things up. Doing both of these in the same week was peak trophy brainrot honestly, as bad as anything I've done recently and possibly even ever. I used to enjoy playing MyTeam but it was completely miserable this year as they ramped up pay to win/gambling to unfathomable levels while having basically nothing interesting to balance it out. For the first time in over 5 years I am very unsure about buying next year's game.

 

I'm a little burnt out on guides so I'm not sure I will actually do the one I have planned for 2k24. I have some of it written up + notes for the rest, it's just putting it all together that feels annoying atm. I do have an easy plan in mind for if I don't go ahead with the guide, which will still enable me to earn all badges and does not require any additional games to be played towards any list.

 

I'm making a minor change for now and swapping out Outlast 2 in favour of Aliens vs Predator. I am trying to do more PS3 games and finished the online for this earlier in the week. It's a net-neutral for badges as I lose the 100%-only trophy but am now able to pick up Licensed on that list by pairing it with Arkham Asylum. It also gives me three PS3 games, meaning I don't necessarily have to play Resident Evil 1 for that badge, I may do RE8 instead since I've never played that one!

 

Looking ahead to the rest of the month, I've been slowly chipping away at Tomb Raider I PS4 and might make a push on that. I also still have the Final Fantasy game on the to-do list, and I'll try to do a Resident Evil game, maybe Code Veronica since it looks to be the shortest. Finally, I will try to do Aliens vs. Predator to stick with my PS3 goals!

3rd Game for list #2 Completed today Jurrasic World Evolution. I have incredibly mixed feelings about this game. On the surface it is in my opinion, a well built park builder. It can be quite fun when just playing naturally. The problem I found which seems to be a recurring theme for this event, is that the trophies really drag this game down for me. A lot of the trophies just ask you to wait for something to happen. This can be money, guests, or most often contracts to raise reputation. I really doesn't help that owning the DLC makes the platinum much longer since you need to complete the DLC for database entries.

 

This is likely to be the last update for a while as both lists have a brick wall ahead of them. List #1 requires the nightmare that is Assetto Corsa and List #2 cannot be finished before early August due to levequests in Final Fantasy XIV. I went ahead and added the games I completed earlier this year as well as a few games I plan to play to a 3rd list. I won't really be updating list #3 until I either finish 7/10 games or I complete the list which might not happen at all. Regardless it will be there just in case.

An update for my List One with the completion of Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

I finished the Legendary Edition trophies yesterday but held off posting until I moped up the last few trophies for Mass Effect 3 Platinum.

 

As I said in my last update that is now 100% complete on all 8 Mass Effect Games on PS3 and PS4.

It's been fantastic revising the Legendary Edition and playing all 4 Mass Effect games on Insanity difficulty in succession.

 

All I can really say is:

A quick update for my second list - 7/10 - Dead Nation

 

A game I started in 2011 which I had abandoned one trophy short of the Plat.

Back in the day I tended not to use guides so gather all loot in every level seemed a bit daunting at the time.

Still, a great twin stick shooter and a game I played Co-Op with the wife so good times.

 

I have one DLC trophy left for the 100% but I guess I'll come back to that in another 13 years 😉

 Finished Aliens vs. Predator for my 42nd game completed. For the most part it doesn't live up to the difficulty but I did enjoy it. Worst part was obviously the online boost, but the single-player has some tough parts. The Alien and Predator campaigns are simple enough but the Marine campaign has a few tricky setpieces + some of the longer levels, and you have to complete each without dying. I was able to do most in one take but the 4th level took about 10 tries, it was brutal! Good practise for Wolfenstein II, maybe?

 

I've also been working on Tomb Raider I PS4 and should have the vast majority of trophies unlocked tonight, minus the New Game+ run. I started on Resident Evil Village a few days ago but haven't gotten back into it just yet. It's a bit of a slow start if I'm honest but I'm hopeful I will warm up to it I want to get both these games, plus Final Fantasy and Code Veronica, done this month but that's easier said than done.

Unfortunately, I had to keep myself amused with stupidity like this, because damn, this was one of the worst games I've ever played. The controls suck, the platforming sucks, the puzzles suck, the trophy list sucks, it's slow, it's boring, it's frustrating, it's annoying. Lots of people seem to like it because it's one of those Feelings™ games, but sadly my shriveled, grey stone heart is immune to Feelings and I always end up just being bored to death in such games. Laughing at Big Bird's gigantic butthole flashing on screen every 2 minutes was the only thing maintaining my sanity while I slogged through this mess.

 

But then --  something... most extraordinary happened. 

 

I finished the story, I watched the credits and the last scene... And...  and... then I just sat there. For a solid 10 minutes, staring at the screen. Dumbfounded.

 

"What... what am I... what is this... what just happened!?!"

 

I'll tell you what happened:

 

This god damn game actually got me. Right in the feels.

 

The next day I started working on the second playthrough to mop up the trophies. Suddenly it wasn't a slog with the worst controls and most annoying companion ever. It was an epic, mysterious adventure, where every input meant something, with a companion friend I actually cared about.  I've had opinion changes while playing games before, but holy hell, never a U-Turn like this.

 

By the time I finished with everything, I wasn't making stupid butthole jokes anymore. I was bawling along with everyone else:

 

Because damn, this was one of the best games I've ever played.

 

Video games are awesome.

 

Sorry for the giant blog post full of badly shopped images, but this game got in my head real bad and I needed to let it out somewhere. Getting back on to the topic of the thread:
