Slot Machines

okay, seriously but those slots must really hate me. i just did 1,600 spins on the slot machines, and only had 2 jackpots. how am i supposed to get the 10,000 coins needed for the trophy, and then the 777 jackpots for one of the fragments? and then 10,000 x 3 for the other 3 fragments? they really shouldnt have included the slots in this game. the odds are worse than a real slot machine. also, every time you roll, its like the luck is preset for you, since you always get the same combinations every 3 spins.

good luck to anyone crazy enough to attempt this. sadly, i am crazy enough, so ill update this thread once i get all the casino-related fragments and the trophy with some tips to help you get it.

Yeah Im really still confused on the requirements too. Is it gross 10,000 coins or net (meaning you have to end up with +10,000 from what you started with)

Also, what constitutes a jackpot? Does 3 moogles?

I wasted about an hour on this before I realized I better just save it until the very end when I have the most possible Gil to let the game run.

can you do the old trick where you lose a spin just reload a save? I used this tactic when playing Dragon Quest 8...

spin, fail, reload, spin, fail, reload... until you hit a jackpot and save... then rinse and repeat...

I honestly don't know because i haven't played this game yet (its still in the plastic) but it sounds like a great idea, lol :)

Something like that Piggie. What you could do is turn a large amount of gil into casino coins (like 100,000 or more) and hold down the :l1: button for hours on end (or tape it down or rubberband it down or put it in your dogs mouth - whatever works) to auto-spin and hope for the best.

The official strategy guide shows the odds of auto spin vs manually spinning (takes 5 different button presses for manual spin which are :r1: then :l3: then you must press :square::triangle::circle: in any order to stop the three reels.) are 130% return on investment for manual spin and 90% (so that would be a 10% loss) on auto spin when you have the most optimal conditions. How do you know when you have the most optimal conditions to win? Talk to the girl in front of the slots when she says "its like a hot summers day" that response is the most optimal odds of winning. If you dont get that response from her, go back to the Historia Crux and reload Serendipity until you get this response or you will just be wasting time and money. My percentages might be slightly off there - I'll have to check it later. But thats the 'crux' of it. ;)

Double post - I just read that it is infact a NET gain of 10,000 casino coins needed for :bronze: Serendipitous.

That to me means Chocobo Racing will be the slow and steady course. I doubt I can net 10,000 coins from the couple hours Ive tried slots so far (basically Ive taken 8000 coins and pissed it away to 0 three different times)

well, i got the fragment from the slot machine, which means i needed 7,777 jackpots. so yes, moogles count as a jackpot.

also, i have earned 5,000 points from super victory mode, then lost about 2,000 and then won another 5,000 and i did not get the trophy. so you have to get out with 10,000 more coins than you had. im not going back to slots though, ill try my best doing the chocobo races since i have a gold chocobo now.

Curious - What was your method used for 7777 jackpots? I assume auto spin? Also, how much gil did you need to keep the game running long enough to aquire that many jackpots?

Get that Chocobo up to 43 (max level) and you have a money machine

well,i started doing the slots around 4pm, then i took a shower around 5pm, and when i got out of the shower around 5:30 i looked at the screen and the fragment cutscene started playing and i got the fragment. i got it in super victory mode.

i started with around 6,000 coins. then when i got out of the shower i had around 2,000 and since i was in super victory mode it was taking 100 coins every spin. then i got a 999 jackpot, which gave me 5,000 coins, and then i went back down to about 3,000 and then got another 999 jackpot, and i got another 5,000 coins along with the fragment. but i also read that its all based on luck, so you may have "its like a hot summers day" but have very bad luck. so if you cant get anything leave to the main menu and retry and hopefully you will have better luck.

so i would say you should have around 6,000 coins and then tape the L1 button. also, i dont know when you unlock the speed improving fragment, but you should go for that before going for the slots, since it will go from 2 hours to about 30 minutes. i do not have the fragment skill yet, so i dont know.

edit: oh and i think that the number is cumulative since i did some slot machines earlyer that same week hoping to get the trophy, and it seemed pretty quick for me to get that fragment. i also saw some videos on youtube of people getting on the slot machine with 0 spins, and then getting the fragment after 50 spins...
