Question about DLC and region lock

Hey im a bit confused about DLC, i know its region locked, BUT! If i buy an american version of the game and buy the DLC for the game through the american PS store, will both still work when played through my PAL account?

PS3:

As long as the account is on your PS3 and has logged in once the DLC will work on any account on the system provided the game and DLC regions match.

 

PS4:

You need to log into the PS4 with your out-of-region account and make it your "Primary PS4" on that account. This allows the other accounts on the PS4 to use any DLC downloaded with it but again, the game and DLC regions need to match.

 

Keep in mind the game itself needs to match the DLC region, so if you buy something like Steep from the US (Be it physical or digital), install it, then buy the DLC from the PAL store it will not work on the NTSC-U copy.

So if i understand you correct. Ps3 DLC will work on any region account as long as DLC and game are matching in region. PS4 everything needs to match?

On PS3 and PS4: yes. All content on the console is shared between accounts. On PS4 you're alt acc must be activated as primary, on ps3 you don't have to do anything

PS4 works the same as the PS3 does. The DLC and game region need to be the same for the DLC to work on the game. It's just that to get other accounts to have the permission to use the purchased content on PS4 you need to log into the PS4 and set it as that account's primary PS4.

 

The easiest way to explain it is this:

1. You have a PAL account
2. You buy let's say Steep from a PAL region.
3. You buy the DLC from the NTSC-U store on a US account.
4. DLC will not work on the copy of Steep because it's not for PAL games and instead NTSC-U.
5. You end up buying an NTSC-U copy of Steep and the DLC will now work on it.
6. If you set your US account to you have your PS4 as the Primary PS4 then you can log onto your PAL account and play the NTSC-U copy of Steep and the DLC will work on it.

Another way to explain it:

1. Your account is NTSC-U (US)
2. You go and buy Kamen Rider Battride War Genesis physically which is only released in NTSC-J.
3. You can play this game like normal on any account because Sony consoles are region free.
4. The DLC is only available on the JP store so you download the DLC for this game from the JP store using a JP account.
5. For the sake of this example you logged onto the JP account but didn't set the PS4 you're on as the primary PS4 for the account.
6. The DLC will not work for the game even if downloaded, it only works on the JP account right now.
7. You make the PS4 the JP account's primary PS4.
8. Logging onto your NTSC-U account to play the game will now have the DLC for the game pop up on it.

As long as the game region matches the DLC's region and the account is registered as the primary PS4 then any account on the PS4 can use that DLC no problem. You just have to make sure the DLC you're getting matches the same region as the game you have.

To make this simpler:

• PAL Account + NTSC-U game + PAL DLC = Only NTSC-U game can be seen, DLC will not work.
• PAL Account + PAL game + PAL DLC = DLC works.
• PAL Account + NTSC-U game + NTSC-U DLC from NTSC-U account = DLC works.
• NTSC-U Account + PAL game + PAL DLC from PAL account = DLC works.
• NTSC-U Account + NTSC-U game + PAL DLC = Only NTSC-U game can be seen, DLC will not work.
