Pocky & Rocky Reshrined Mini guide

Hi there. I don't have enough verification to publish an official guide, but I would introduce some information in the hope that may help those who are curious about this game.

 

This is a top-down Shumps game series that originated as an arcade game in 1986. The first one gained popularity due to its comical and cute appearance and the high level of difficulty that it defied. This title may also seem difficult at first. However, I want you to know that it's not difficult if you know life extensions and a few key points.

 

General Information

• Support languages: English, German, French, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
• In most of the locations, you can progress at your own speed (no automatic scrolling).
• Move in 8 directions in 45-degree increments and can fires only forward; it is NOT a twin-stick operation with L for movement and R for aiming.
• Life extensions are not generated by scoring. You must pick up a 1UP item.

 

Personal Difficulty: 5/10, Minimum-Playthrough: 7, Estimate time: 10 Hours (Skill-dependent), Online Trophy: None

 

Game Mode

• Story Mode (Normal / Hard / Super Easy)
  • A player character is designated for each stage.
  • Unlock the Super Easy difficulty by collecting a total of 3000 coins. It doesn't count the number of lives and is a mode of infinite reanimation.

  • Once you complete Story Mode, Free Mode will be unlocked. In the second round, a different character appears and is unlocked after beating the game again. These can be any difficulty.

• Free Mode (Normal / Hard)
  • You can play all stages with the first character you select.
  • Local-Coop available.

 

Extend Lives

• Hidden items can only be unearthed by melee attacks.
• The probability of winning a 1UP item in the roulette varies depending on the price: 50 Coins = 0%, 100 Coins = 20%, 300 Coins = 100%
  • Maybe... when the price is 100 Coins, you get a 1UP item when the smallest digit of coins you have is 4 or 9.

Strategy

• Many enemy bullets can be bounced back by melee attacks, causing even more efficient damage. Make sure you know which attacks you can handle on your first play.

• If there are too many objects to avoid, turn back the way you came and deal with them little by little. If there is no enemy in sight, no new attacks by the enemy will occur.

• At the beginning of Stage 1, there is a place where enemies respawn endlessly, and 300 coins can be earned there to purchase life extensions.

• The total amount of coins earned will be counted when you return to the game menu. Coins consumed along the way and coins picked up beyond 999 won't be counted. If you want to collect coins aggressively, Repeat the first enemy in Stage 1.

 

Recommended Roadmap

Step 1: Beat the game (Story Mode)

At first, complete the Story Mode twice, even if you have to repeat the continue. Once you complete Story Mode, Free Mode will be unlocked. Also, after you clear the game again, the hidden characters should also be unlocked (If not all characters are unlocked, clear the game again). If you have difficulty clearing the game, you can use Super Easy Difficulty by earning 3000 coins.

Stage 1 Cleared!, Stage 2 Cleared!, Stage 3 Cleared!, Stage 4 Cleared!, Stage 5 Cleared!, Stage 6 Cleared!, Stage 7 Cleared!, Stage 8 Cleared!

 

Step 2: Beat Free Mode without continuing.

You will notice that each character performs very differently. In the beginning, try to use stronger characters to improve your playing skills. Thus, Learn where you can extend stocks in order to achieve no continues.

The recommended order of characters is as follows: Hotaru Gozen or Ikazuchi -> Ame-no-Uzume -> Rocky -> Pocky

Powerful Pocky, Rowdy Rocky, Amazing Ame-no-Uzume, Incredible Ikazuchi, Humble Hotaru

 

Step 3: Beat the game without continuing (Story Mode)

If you have achieved "No Continue" on Pocky, you should already have the groundwork to Beat Hard Difficulty.
