Assassin's Creed Mirage - Master of His Fate

Or, as I have deemed it, Disney's Aladdin Simulator. You play as a thief who eventually gets drawn into the Assassin Brotherhood through various means, etc etc. Every AC game pretty much starts off the same, with the exception of AC 3 and maybe some other one that I haven't yet played. It's a big franchise and I keep replaying the same damn games over so it's hard to move onto ones I haven't gotten around to yet. Anyways, this particular entry into the series goes back to the AC roots. Thank god. I don't think I would be playing anymore AC if they keep being as big as Valhalla. I have barely scratched the surface of that game and I can see how much of a time sink it is. If Ubi keeps making them more like this though, I'm pretty much sold. I enjoyed this game to the point where I pretty much went straight through to the platinum so it was entertaining enough. Definitely had enough sand though and everything was brown, bland, and samey. Can't really go wrong with the actual assassination stuff which made up for the bleak environment that I didn't really like much; I had a difficult time learning the locations and no matter how many times I ran through a city, I just didn't remember where anything was. That, and the fact that there is no minimap, made getting around a little annoying. And guards are freaking everywhere so don't you dare do anything even remotely bad or they are on you like that. Overall a welcome deviation back to the old formula and would recommend if you are tired of the direction these games were going and I hope they continue to make smaller titles and not the bloated collectathons the past few games have been.

Shredders - Shredageddon

I had high hopes for this game. I was a huge fan of the original SSX and SSX Tricky games, and I just like snowboarding games in general even if this one was a lot tamer in terms of physics and style. Lots of people online praise this game for its realism, in fact. To those people I would like to ask what the heck are you smoking? Have you ever seen a snowboard fold completely in half while grinding a rail? Or someone's arms stick straight out their backs as they faceplant into the ground? Has gravity completely stopped working as you start your descent down the hill so you end up stuck twirling around trying to figure out which way the ground is? This game does not have realistic physics; it barely has physics at all. I got this platinum over the course of a weekend and it was one of those games I almost immediately regretted starting up and right when I was about to make the decision to quit and shelve it forever, I popped a trophy. Well it was only a ten hour platinum, but my golly was it a frustrating mess at times. Do I actually regret it? No, not really. There is a supreme lack of these types of games out there. Sure there's Steep and that Mark McMorris or whatever game, but that's pretty much it unless you go back to Shaun White Snowboarding on PS3 but that platinum is unobtainable now afaik. And the PS3 SSX is an abomination compared to its predecessors. Pretty please can we just have a remaster/remake of SSX (Tricky) that's all we really need. We certainly don't need that spine we left on the bunny hill in Shredders.

Pic-a-Pix Pieces - Piece of Cake

I don't know why I like Picross so much. Or Pie Crust as my sister likes to call it.

Tchia - New Caledonian

Had to get it done before it left Extra. One of the creepiest bosses I've ever seen in a game lol.

God of War - Father and Son

Omg I finally got the platinum in God of War 2018. This is my third attempt across three different accounts and finally I decided to just follow a guide and get it done for the Spring Backlog Challenge. I've only ever gone straight through the story so going back to do all the side quests made it feel almost like a brand new game. I also have a greater appreciation for the characters and their relationships with each other after playing Ragnarok, though there is a section where Atreus makes me want to boot him off a mountain. That particular section isn't actually as long as I remembered it being so eventually he resumes being tolerable. I still prefer Ragnarok as there were more set pieces and memorable sections that I liked a lot more. This is a fine adventure game though and I am so happy to finally have this done after six years.

Congratulations getting your God of War 2018 platinum. I personally think it is an incredible game though I also prefer Ragnarok. It is amazing and impressive to see your trophy journey like this and quite inspiring! :D

Thanks so much for the kind words! I prefer Ragnarok too, but they are both such fantastic games. I can't wait to see where they go next with the series.

Serial Cleaner - Spotless

This game is actually a bit of a challenge. It's fun to play off and on, but it can get a little frustrating; spending all that time cleaning the blood, collecting the evidence, and hiding all the bodies just to fail on the way to the exit. I rage closed the game a number of times but perseverance paid off in the end. The other Serial Cleaners game looks phenomenal and I am very much interested in playing it but I think I'll take a break from this style of game for a bit. Super enjoyable and if you like stealth games, give it a try.

Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story - Song of You

I picked this game up on a whim as it was on sale. I do not regret that as it was a cute and fun little game where you play as a young kid trying to find his mom with his friend who is a yeti and the last of his kind. It is very straightforward other than a few collectible and missable trophies if you aren't paying attention, and there is a forced stealth section towards the end that took me a few tries as you have to restart the whole chapter if you get caught. Other than that, even if you don't have a clue about League of Legends like me, this is a very enjoyable game that I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice short story adventure game.

The Quarry - what Doesn't Kill You...

I am such a huge baby when it comes to horror games so I'm quite proud of finally getting this one done. It's not actually all that scary, and unfortunately due to the nature of the game and the trophies you'll end up replaying a bunch of chapters multiple times so that wears away any amount of horror to be replaced by mild annoyance and impatience. During my first playthrough I didn't really find out anything about the story, so there was enough intrigue there to keep me playing despite this. Adding to the annoyance however, are the characters; most of them are just sarcastic narcissistic assholes who would rather nitpick every little thing than do something as simple as calling 911. Heck even that gets nitpicked. so many times I was thinking oh my god just shut the hell up already as it seemed like everyone just had to get one little jab or last word in even though everyone was dying around them. Oh well. I'm just happy I finally got it done as it's been on my backlog for two years.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - The True Arisen

Congrats for this one :D I agree, that first escort mission is so bad, a lot of people get driven away by it. Once you get rid of it and you're able to leave Gran Soren though...that's when the game opens up and gets truly good.

That's when I also decided to get rid of the pawns because if I heard "Wolves hunt in packs" one more time I swear to god!

Exoprimal - Exoprimal

So I do not normally play online match style games as I usually find them boring or pointless. I like story games where I have an end goal and something to accomplish. So when I first saw the trailer for this game, seeing the dinosaurs I was excited, but as soon as I saw it was an online squad based game ala Overwatch, my excitement tanked. But, dinosaurs! So I bought it anyways and I'll tell you: I love this game. It does actually have a story so it did feel like I was achieving something by playing, though it's not's great and by the end I was skipping the story scenes. I know there's a screwdriver that's super important to somebody but who cares. Also Sean from Assassin's Creed is here. The final trophy will be the grind for 100,000 kills. Don't be dumb like me and try to farm using the story missions as once you complete them, the mission you go into is random. Instead, use the Savage Gauntlets: some weeks you will get a mission where there are tons of little dinos that are easily farmed and can get anywhere from 600 - 1000 kills a match. Others you will just face off against one big scary dino so it doesn't work so well. I was always playing on Tuesday evenings wondering why this Savage Gauntlet mode was always locked, well turns out it is available from Thursday evening and goes until Monday night every week. I wish I realized that earlier as the grind wouldn't have taken nearly as long.

Though I am not done playing this as my bf also wants the platinum and he is about 30,000 kills out so I will be working on it with him for a bit. Luckily I still have tons of characters to grind out and unlock new stuff for. I think a lot of people saw this game as an experiment gone wrong by Capcom but it's actually a ton of fun; if you want something that plays like Overwatch but has dinosaurs, give it a try.

Mafia Definitive Edition - The Original Gangster

The car race is nowhere near as difficult as everyone says it is. There's scripted crashes for the AI, just take advantage.

One of my favourite old games from the Playdium days. I really shouldn't have put it down for as long as I did as it was really enjoyable to go back to.

South Park: The Stick of Truth - Platinum Trophy

Considering I have never watched South Park, this game is pretty fun. Some gross bits but at least I knew what was coming as this is my second time getting the platinum.

Very well done on your new platinums! I have been considering the south park games, but just haven't been fully sold on them yet, thought I was going to get the new one South Park Snow Day, but it just doesn't look good to me after seeing more gameplay

Thank you! Yeah the new game looks kind of off putting to me. The other two are fun and have good rpg and character elements and Snow Day just looks like someone had a fever dream during development and they just went with it. I've heard very mixed reviews on it so I would wait for a deep sale or for it be added to the Plus catalog. Hopefully we get a "true" third game to follow up if you know what I mean.

I absolutely agree with you. I was expecting so much more from when the game was announced, but it just turned out to be a big let down. I know exactly what you mean. I hope we will see a real proper third game, but then again shouldn't be surprised as Snow Day was made by a different studio. Is Puzzle Bobble a game you would recommed?

I would recommend if you like those types of games. None of the levels are random; none of the colored balls you get are random so you can easily just keep trying certain plays and restarting if it doesn't work. Can be a very easy game, even towards the end, but there are some timed puzzles that made me think how in the hell am I going to finish this and then somehow by sheer luck I figured it out. It's a very chill game otherwise which I appreciated and I also have some nostalgia for Bub and Bob, so it was really up my alley. It seems not too many people cared about the game when it came out which is a shame.

Alice Madness Returns - Platinum For All Other Trophies

This is my second time getting the platinum for Alice. It's...ok. I really like how the Cheshire Cat is portrayed, but the rest of the characters are all kind of the same. Quirky designs but not much difference between them. They're all, oh look it's crazy Alice again. Talking about how her ENTIRE FAMILY DIED IN A FIRE WILL YOU GIVE HER A DANG BREAK. ahem. Anyways. It's an interesting game and the creepy gameplay is something different which I appreciate, but the chapters are too longwinded and it gets a little monotonous.

The Callisto Protocol - It's Over, Jacob!

I wasn't sure I was ever going to play this as I normally gravitate away from horrifying and dark games, but it came up on my backlog randomizer challenge I had set up for myself and after testing it on an old account I decided it's not actually that scary. In fact, it's almost a rythym game the same way you can almost argue a Souls game is but like, in a super roundabout, am I high on drugs while talking about this, kind of way. The combat is borderline turn-based with how you basically goad them into attacking, then wait for an opening, then they go again, then you, etc. Unless you just grab em and throw them off a ledge or into some spikes. The platinum has you playing on the hardest difficulty and there are some spots that are set up as quasi-arena fights where most of the time you are trying to look behind you, shooting. The problem becomes then, that you will get hung up on the environment, big bad will come right up into your business where you can still easily dodge, but then a little enemy will come and get their licks in while you are still in a dodge animation and then kill you as soon as you come out of it. I died more to little greaseball enemies getting in my way than any of the big guys actually hitting me. The same is true for the final boss where if it weren't for some little bomber enemies, he would be an absolute cakewalk. But no, they also kind of blend into the ground and the only way to know to keep an eye out for them spawning is to hear them scream. If you lose track of them, suddenly you are dying to a little dude trying to eat your leg. It's dumb. I don't think I will touch the NG+ or harder modes, but I will keep an eye out for the story DLC as I don't mind doing actual extra content instead of redoing the same shit over and over. Seriously, to get 100% you have to play through the game 4 or 5 times, and one mode has you do it without dying? I have better things to do.

Congrats on both new platinums and really well done! I have been back and forth with myself about Callisto. I have teh game in my backlog ever since it was on ps+ monthly games. Initially when the game was announced I was super hyped for the game, but given all the issues the game had at launch and feel a bit disappointed in the look of the combat, I have never gone around to start it. As of now I have other games I want to play before this, but will likely go for it some day. You can be very proud though of your new shiny plats
