Goekie
Hey guys I've been having some issues with my HP laptop. When booting up the laptop makes a continuous beeping noise and asks whether I want to start up Windows. After startup I noticed that one of my keys is stuck. I tried cleaning the button but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Any ideas how to fix this would be much appreciated thanks
DaivRules
Find directions online for removing the keyboard. HP's manuals will sometimes have this info. If not, check ifixit.com Then you have two options. a] find a direct replacement. Order and replace. b] put your keyboard in your dishwasher on a normal cycle, with NO soap and turn off the drying cycle. Wait one week for it to totally dry and reinstall. No, option b is not a joke. I've done this with keyboards from computers and laptops for over 10 years. I have found, though, if one cycle through doesn't change or fix anything, multiple cycles will not help. DEMON
Why didn't I think of that. Throw my laptop in the dishwasher, brilliant idea!! Nope.. that's not a good idea. Is there anyway to remove the button? Just try removing it, see if it works then.. that or just get yourself a cheap keyboard and use that instead. As for the beeping issue, I'm not sure, you may be best reading through the manual your laptop would have came with or contacting HP or looking at their support site for their laptops and seeing if they covered anything to do with a beeping sound. DaivRules
Why didn't I think of that. Throw my laptop in the dishwasher, brilliant idea!! Well, first of all, I made it pretty clear the first step was remove your keyboard and the second step was to put just the keyboard in the dishwasher. http://www.instructables.com/id/Clean-your-Keyboard-in-the-Dishwasher/ http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-Keyboard-in-a-Dishwasher http://www.howtogeek.com/65915/how-to-clean-your-filthy-keyboard-in-the-dishwasher-without-ruining-it/ http://www.cultofmac.com/1625/its-official-keyboard-in-dishwasher-works-great/ http://venturebeat.com/2011/09/21/keyboard-dishwasher/ Also, this could serve several purposes. If your keyboard has a rubber-type gasket or membrane, depending on how long the key was depressed, it could have deformed the material. Washing it in hot water CAN reset it back to it's original state by making it more malleable. The beeping is probably your laptop recognizing a key being depressed. It doesn't seem like you're open to any serious hardware trouble-shooting. Take your laptop to a shop and pay them to help you out. Guest
how many beeps do you hear? Mybe 3? could be a keyboard controller failure. Try reconnecting the cable of the keyboard to the motherboard, you will have to open it up; dont know if that would void your warranty. If it doesnt work most likely you have a bad keyboard controller on the motherboard. This type of failure is not very common but it happens. In this case you ‘ll have to replace the whole motherboard. Edited August 16, 2014 by ERGOPROXY-DECAY
