Winter Backlog Challenge (December 15, 2016-February 28, 2017)

Happy New Year's, everyone! I hope 2016 ended well for you all! Here's my first 2017 update!

1. inFamous: Second Son (100% - 48/48)
2. Knack (27% - 17/42)
3. Adventures of Mana (100% - 37/37)
4. Cast of the Seven Godsends - Redux (15% - 7/23)
5. Hitman GO: Definitive Edition (100% - 17/17)
6. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered (9% - 7/54)
7. Song of the Deep (15% - 3/10)
8. Final Fantasy Type-0 (4% - 3/50)

Finally finished the Hard mode of Knack, and boy howdy did I throw my controller across the room a few times! Especially against the final boss. But now I am ready for THE CRYSTAL GRIND. I don't care if I reset my entire collections by changing to the easiest mode - Hard is terrible and I want to get Diamond Knack quickly. I did complete one gadget, the Double Battery that doubled my sunstone power. Putting Knack aside for a while. Will work on Song of the Deep next, but will probably have to start over as I forgot how to play.

Finished the main part of the story of Cold Steel II.  I still have the divertissment and epilogue left, but those are pretty much single dungeon side storyish chapters and shouldn't take too much longer to do.

 

And my god, the finale was one wild ride that I loved every moment of.  Even though I should be playing other games for the new year's competition, I'm probably going to have a hard time putting Cold Steel II down until I have the platinum.

Not yet on site due to maintenance but managed to plat Another Episode. Not as grindy as the other two games, about 25 hours in all, pretty enjoyable aside from a few lulls. Migh complete Setsuna/shantae next if I can get past the bosses I'm stuck on, failing that some Stardew and Tearaway.

Good luck on that! Haven't even finished Chapter 2 on re;Birth because Black Heart is a b**** and you're forced to fight her right after you get worn down on another boss. Need to grind grind grind to Level 20 to stand a chance.

 

I might have to drop out of the event. I have found a better way of motivating myself to earn trophies daily and that means I might knock be able to continue working on my list.

Decided to do Chapter 9 and the two endings to shave that off of my to-do list, especially since now that I'll likely reach 299 plats before I get the plat, I don't have to worry about gauging it to ensure it doesn't pop early. I did the first mission of Chapter 9 to unlock the last two missions for EXP grinding, but neither feels all that useful, so I'll likely just stick to the 125 EXP mission since that's doable in four actions over one turn.

Got a couple of minor trophies for Knack; redid the story up to Chapter 10 and found every secret chest there, but started getting tons of relics. I did complete a few gadgets and got the "Quick Work" trophy(didn't expect to take out the cannons so fast) and "Combo Beginner" but getting "Combo Master" is going to be a pain as I keep getting hit.

 

EDIT(because I didn't think it would be relevant to put up another post so soon): Got a few more trophies, including the ones for getting all the gadgets(I didn't think I could do it, I kept getting crystals from the secret chests) and King of Adventure (thanks to a guide from the PlaystationTrophies.org site)... now comes the boring part, grinding up chests to get all of the alternate Knacks. If anyone wants to add me to their friends list so I can get Diamond Knack faster, please PM me and I'll tell you how many crystal relics in each category I have.

 

I am going to take a break for a while and then start work on the remaining parts of the list. I do intend to get five 100%s on the list before the deadline even if I fail the challenge.

Completed my first play through of Tearway (PS4), god it's tedious. I really liked the vita version but in this version there are too many collectables and extra gimmicky motion controls (in last few chapters) are annoying, still has a fair degree of charm. Going to work on this between other games, try and get the collectables and escort the gophers etc.

Ok, off to a good start 2 Games out of the way (Color Guardians & Coffin Dodgers)

 

Color Guardians is essentially a rhythm game, its good fun and not too difficult apart from the final boss fight. It took me almost as long to do that level as the rest of the game put together. I nearly cried when i found out you had to complete it 4 times for the platinum. But in the end the practice did help and it wasn't that bad.

 

Coffin dodgers is just a bad karting game, very easy if you get lucky but otherwise quite frustrating. But it was a quick platinum. Now deleted from my hard drive I won't be playing it again.

I feel your pain - I almost rage-quit and tossed that game because I couldn't find the last scraps in Gibbet Hill and the Crash Site... and they ended up being in such obvious places I wanted to go over to Media Molecule's offices and... (censored to avoid getting banned for possible promotion of terrorist activities, which I would never do! Honest! ) And all I have is the Misplaced Gophers... and some tiny small blobs of confetti which I for the love of Arceus cannot find! ARGH!

 

EDIT: Short mini-update, I just got 44% on Knack. Spending another playthrough trying to farm from crystal relics. If anyone can help me boost by sharing their friend codes for this game if they got any diamond relics, I'd be grateful. Other than that, I'll have to reload the Playstation App on my phone and download... Knack's Quest.

I really hate grinding but especially so in single player games. I wish you good luck, I hope it goes as quickly as it can  

Started Uncharted: Golden Abyss, decided to leave AC Revelations for later. I read that Golden Abyss has grinding in the form of Bounty cards which I'm not looking forward to doing, but I'm enjoying the game so far.

No real update on Hyperdevotion Noire. Level grinding sucks. That said, I've gotten Plat #298 with the JP Vita version of Root Letter and I'll be going through the rest of Monster High tonight so that I can reach 299 plats and start exclusively focusing on this.

Finished Act 1 of Broken Age last night - I quite liked it, though I've heard less positive things about Act 2.  Looks like I missed a couple of trophies that I'll need to replay for.

 

This morning was a completionist playthrough of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture for the platinum.  I'd already heard 90% of the dialogue / events on my first playthrough, so I didn't stick around to listen to everything this time.  Don't think I could've done this one without a guide, the walking pace would've made searching every corner of the map a pretty painful experience.

Not much yet but I'm also trying to 100% a couple other games like race the sun (thank you to the community for the exploit, made it an easy 100%), Lego Batman 3 (one dlc trophy away) and letter quest remastered (should have included it in this challenge, started it at the same time and it was low enough percentage it would have qualified).

More time on Tearaway unfolded. Still tedious, things like unskippable tutorial and story text or camera panning away when you're escorting the gopher and scraps are attacking you just make it really unpleasant at times.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2 (JP): 15% -> 17%

 

I've mainly been playing Steins;Gate 0 on my PS4 for the past couple of days, but I've also been doing Stella's Dungeon in the meantime since I last had it at only the first dungeon cleared. After I ran out of dungeons, I started unlocking new ones to fill time and before I knew it, I ended up clearing the second chapter after all this time. I'm getting close to having S;G0 done, and once that's done, I'll be able to dedicate my time more fully to this. That said, having a fair amount of Stella's Dungeon done (13/28 dungeons atm IIRC) is certainly nice since that's the worst part of the plat. Maybe I'll use Root Letter to carry me through the rest of Stella's Dungeon later on.

Short update: Knack (48% - 28/42)

 

Finally finished my second run of this game and managed to collect all the Aqua, Ruby and Amethyst relics. Decided to just get the trophies associated with their various Knacks, so got Ruby Medal, Aqua Medal and Dark Medal out of the way immediately. Managed to avoid dying to the Chieftain's mech as Dark Knack, but did not get the trophy associated with not dying at a boss. I guess you can't get that trophy in Chapter Select. Also did not get Hoarder despite not using any Sunstone attacks in Chapter 12-2. Any ideas?

 

Might try to finish Song of the Deep today, but at this rate I am not positive about finishing this challenge. I don't feel the desire to tackle any of the other games on this list.
