Hello and welcome to my neverending backlog and amateurish platinum reviews! :yay:

I frequently visit other people's checklists and I enjoy seeing how people work toward their goals, what they think about games I like, and about games I don't like; how they build their game charts and just looking at a nice compact video game history of them. Since I love statistics and making all kinds of lists about certain hobbies I enjoy, I decided to make a checklist thread for myself! :D

I want to share with you all the games in my backlog, the platinums I've gotten and will get in the future with small reviews and stats attached to them, and also the Platinum and Game Clubs I joined with my respective progress. Maybe I'll add small 100% game reviews once I've caught up with the platinum reviews! I might even rant about frustrating and difficult trophies too, but for now I have to finish this checklist first.

My backlog is my nemesis - I love collecting physical games and buying cheap games in sales way too much. I already accepted the idea of an neverending backlog! ? It doesn't help that I enjoy games from most genres. The majority of games I play are simple RPGs and JRPGs with the occasional pixel sidescroller here and there, but I've also played strategy, survival, rogue-like, shooter, horror games and many more!
I don't intend to get any autopop plats or region stacks, never saw the appeal for that. If a game I love gets a port, remake or remaster though I will play and plat it again!

Game Collection/Backlog:

All the games I still have to play. I started some of them already, but I haven't gotten platinum/100% in them yet. The monthly free games I acquired through PS Plus are included, but games I got from the PS Plus Premium service are NOT included except for games I have more than 5 trophies in. Games without platinums and only a 100% list are also included since I don't mind playing games without a platinum! A handful of games are missing, I just never bothered to look up their trophy list.

An open-world Final Fantasy with some modern concepts and way too much story dissection.

Final Fantasy XV was my very first platinum trophy. I didn't bother about trophies before, but after I played through this game casually and almost had everything done for platinum, I figured I'd just go for the remaining trophies. This is one thing the game managed to do which I'm thankful for - sparking my love for completing games in their entirety!

Unfortunately, there's not much else I remember fondly about this game. Sure, it has beautiful graphics, insanely good music and fantastic monster designs, but apart from that the game is pretty hollow. The story is probably the weakest point, followed by the undemanding difficulty, the playable characters and - for me - the cars, gas stations and realistic cities which just felt out of place in a Final Fantasy game. I'm fine with futuristic mecha robots and airships, big unrealistic metropolises and similar things, but Final Fantasy XV's ideas are just too far away from fantasy for me.

The difficulty was unsatisfying - I remember having a bunch of phoenix feathers with me at all times, and I was basically invincible.

The four 'playable' characters are not what you'd expect if you played other Final Fantasy games before. This franchise is known for colorful characters with different backgrounds, motives and personalities. They managed to give FFXV's characters cliché personalities, yes, but other than that they are simply...boring? Lacking differences? I'm not sure, but they're not that memorable compared to other characters.

And the story is the biggest disappointment of all. Honestly, I don't remember much about it, which can say alot in itself. But I do remember that it felt like some information was missing at times. Not surprising if the story is split up into game, DLCs, novels, anime, movie and maybe even more.

I thought about playing it again someday to finish the DLCs, without big expectations about it. But until that happens, Final Fantasy XV is the worst Final Fantasy game I've played yet. Ironic that out of all games I played up until this point, this is the game that started my love for platinums! ?

A Final Fantasy with an initial love for linearity and the cutest Chocobo chick of all time! 1f425.png

Some hate it, some love it. For me, this is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games and I'm still desperately waiting for a PS5 Remaster!

Final Fantasy XIII is a great game with some of the best soundtracks ever. Back on the PS3, the graphics were crazy good and they still hold up to todays standards. The characters are quirky and colorful designed, with sufficient differences between each other.

The beginning of the game is fairly linear, which for some people is the main factor for not liking this game. But later on it starts to be more open-world, with a huge area to explore and fighting challanges to conquer.

The story can be confusing at first, when the player doesn't know what certain words are and how this strange world works, but once you start and try to understand it, with the help of the ingame dictionary and character notes, it becomes one of the most interesting worlds in the Final Fantasy universe!

One frustrating thing I remember was the money and material farming for all weapons and accessories. Fighting these giant adamantoises for Trapezohedrons was a headache, and getting them wasn't guaranteed. But listening to the fight music made it worth it - 'Blinded by Light' is a phenomenal battle soundtrack!

A gruesome and more horror-like take on the 'Souls' formula from 'From Software'!

As a big fan of Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, Bloodborne was a must-play for me. This was the first game I played on the PS4 and the reason why I bought the console!

Even though Bloodborne is the spiritual successor to Dark Souls, FromSoft made sure it has enough differences to be its own game. While Dark Souls takes design inspiration from western kingdoms, fantastical beasts like dragons, and weapons and armor from the middle ages, Bloodborne looks and feels more like a horror tale or nightmare inspired by the victorian era.

Instead of knight armor and big maces and greatswords, you wear leather armor and use scythe-like weapons and a pistol. The enemy designs range from creepy and horrible to outright disgusting. The game is more fast-paced, but this doesn't diminish the typical difficulty of souls-like-games. I personally found Bloodborne to be more difficult than Dark Souls!

The story in Bloodborne is confusing - most NPCs tell you only bits of information, and, similar to previous FromSoft games, the item descriptions are important if you want to understand what's going on. And even if you read everything, the game still has an air of secrecy and myths all around. The player can make their own story of the game and interpret the lore and ending for themself. I can see why some people might find this irritating, but I think this is one thing that makes FromSoft games appealing. Finding a new NPC or a new item sometimes feels like finding a new piece to a puzzle which doesn't have a picture yet - it's exciting!

As someone who loves challenging games, with brilliant designs and enough mysteries to always find or understand something new every playthrough, this game is a masterpiece!

A colorful 'Tales of' game and the last in the series with a cuter style.

This was my second 'Tales of' game, and it's still one of my favorite games in the series.

In comparison to the newer 'Tales of' games, this one has a more colorful and cute style, with a fixed camera instead of a controllable one. The battles are triggered through touching an enemy in the field, and after the game changes to the battlefield, a real-time fight will start. While progressing in the story and when levelling up, you unlock new Arts and titles which can be equipped to make the battles easier and give your characters certain bonus stats and abilities. Sadly, I don't remember much about the story, but I don't have it in bad memory.

Tales of Graces f's trophies can be a pain to obtain. Getting enough titles for the corresponding character trophies or maxing out the Eleth mixer is time consuming, but managable with the right strategies.

The characters are charming, the music is great and the gameplay is not too challenging. All in all, it's a fun game and despite its age, it's still an enjoyable experience.
I hope someday, Tales of Graces f gets a Remaster for modern cosoles!

The 'Tales of' game with one of my favorite intro songs in the series! (together with Abyss, Xillia 2 and Berseria)

Tales of Xillia is by far my number one game in the series. I love the characters, the music, the story, the battle-system, the mascot, the funny skits. As someone who likes to play JRPGs with japanese voice-over, I'm disappointed the EU version only has an english VO option. I desperately hope that if there'll ever be a remaster collection of Xillia 1+2, it'll come with japanese VO. (Milla's japanese voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro has a godly voice.)

In the beginning, you can decide whose story you want to follow: Milla's or Jude's. Depending on who you choose, you'll see cutscenes only available to that character. The story is the same, but the party splits up sometimes into two groups with Milla in one, and Jude in the other group. You'll follow the perspective of the character you chose in the beginning.

For the first time in the Tales of series, you can control the camera in the open world. The battle system is the same as before: the battle starts once you touch an enemy, and the screen changes to the battlefield where you fight enemies in real-time. You can use Arts and Techniques, and make character combo attacks. There are superbosses in the overworld that drop some of the best weapons in the game, but you'll want to avoid them until endgame if you don't want to get annihilated!

The overworld and battle music is fantastic. Did you know that the composer Motoi Sakuraba is also responsible for the music in Dark Souls 1-3? :D

This game introduced me to JRPGs and because of that, it has a special place in my heart!

The open-world RPG with dragons almost everyone knows by now! ?

Sykrim will forever be one of my most beloved games. Right now as I'm writing this text, I've already played this game 10+ times and spent easily over 800 hours in it! I just never tire of this beatiful and alive world. :D

Even though it's just a simple RPG, the world feels alive and offers innumerable tasks and possibilities. Every time I play Skyrim, I find something new. Every NPC has something to say, sometimes valuable information, sometimes regarding lore and other times regarding different NPCs. There are also tons of books to read about the world.
The music in this game is breathtaking and feels magical. Just standing in a city or on a mountain and listening to the beautiful music is amazing.

Depending on what difficulty you play, the game can be trivial or a real challenge! With 6 difficulties in total, there is an option for everybody, be it story lovers or challenge enthusiasts.

Running around the world and seeing a dragon in the distance for the first time is distressing and intriguing at the same time. But you are the dovahkiin, dragons don't frighten you, you can literally shout them to death!

Skyrim is one of the greatest games out there. Sure, it has bugs, not many different voice actors and by now it's an old game with old graphics. But there's a reason people still buy the new releases on every new console! I'll still play this game if it ever gets released on the PS8!

The second game in the FFXIII trilogy, with yet another cute mascot: Mog the moogle! ?

The ending in Final Fantasy XIII doesn't hint at a sequel, but XIII-2 changes that ending dramatically and opens the curtains for a new story.
Many things stayed the same as in FFXIII, like the battle system with the paradigms. But

instead of a party of 4-8 characters like in other Final Fantasy games or the prequel, you have a party of two humans and one of many monsters which you can tame during the game. And the biggest change would be the time travel system. Instead of one big open world, you travel through time and space to visit different places at specific times. The year determines what items, monsters and NPCs you'll find and how the place looks like.

This time travel mechanic might make the story a bit more confusing, but like in the first game, if you read the notes and keep focused during cutscenes and conversations, everything should be comprehensible.

And the ending takes a dramatic and unexpected turn for the last game in the trilogy...

The final game in the FFXIII trilogy. You have 14 days to save the world from the apocalypse, time is ticking!

After the ending in FF13-2, the curtains rise one last time for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII!

I was extremely happy to see that this game got a japanese voice pack DLC. When the trilogy will be remastered someday (and we all know it will come sooner or later!), they better add a japanese voice option to all three games! ?

This time around, instead of the turn-based battle system with two characters and a monster, you'll only be playing with Lightning. As far as I remember, you'll get companions throughout the game, but you won't be able to control them, only Lightning. And the turn-based combat changes to a mix between real-time and turn-based: You can attack with whatever ability you want so long as it is equipped and the armor you wear is charged. Once this charge is depleted, you can change to a different armor and attack again. Over time, armors recharge their points, and armors not in use recharge faster. You can equip three armors in total, with each having their own ability sets. This armor change replaces the paradigm system of the previous two games.

World traversing changes once again. Instead of one big open world or time travel, you have four main locations you can go to and explore. But the catch is: you only have a limited amount of time. When the game starts, you have 14 ingame days to finish it. If you fail, the world ends and you have to start again from the beginning, with certain advantages which you can keep. There are abilities that stop time for a short while, but time management is important.

The game is a little bit different than its prequels, but I didn't hate it. It made the game a unique kind of challange which I enjoyed!

The first game in the Dark Souls Trilogy, largely responsible for the beginning of the souls-like games!

Dark Souls is a fantastic game and it is one of my most re-played games ever. The game's design is middle-age-like, with amazing castle architecture and detailed knight armor and weaponry. Combined with dark fantasy, the art in Dark Souls becomes absolutely stunning. On top of that, the game takes inspiration by the dark fantasy manga 'Berserk' by Kentaro Miura.

After Demon's Souls, Dark Souls expanded and improved various aspects of the 'prequel': Instead of 5 linear worlds, we have one big open world with some path restrictions until later in the game; more variety in weapons and armor allows for more unique builds; and the online multiplayer and PvP is also handled better than before.
The gameplay is different than most games were at the time of release. There's no way to save progress manually. If you die at any point in the game, you get revived at the last bonfire you visited, with all monsters apart from bosses and special monsters resurrected. These bonfires act as checkpoints and level-up places. When you die, you lose your currency (Souls) which can be used to level-up your character or buy new items. Your Souls remain as a blood puddle at the spot of your demise until you pick them up, or die again. When that happens, a new blood puddle spawns, and the old one is lost. Many boss fights await you, with secret paths and malicious enemies around every corner. And if you play online, you can get invaded by other players for a stressful PvP time!

The music is dark and sinister, but perfectly fitting! Music only plays during boss fights, but that doesn't make the game any less atmospheric. It gives the game a creepy and unnerving feeling, and makes the boss fights all the more epic!
The story is only told in a passive way - through the level design, the item and magic descriptions and vaguely through conversations with NPCs. Like in Demon's Souls and Bloodborne as well, this motivated me to look for new items and clues, to understand more of the beautifully and cleverly designed world and its history.

The DLC added a few challenging boss fights, with one boss closely resembling a form of the main character Guts from 'Berserk', and it added one of the best areas for PvP!

For me personally, Dark Souls is the easiest game in the Trilogy. Even after more than 10 years, it remains a phenomenal game and I cannot recommend it (or the remaster) enough to anyone who enjoys challenging games and breathtaking architecture and monster design!

The second game in the Dark Souls Trilogy, remastered and with all the DLC already included!

I played the original version of Dark Souls 2 on the PS3 before the Remaster, but got platinum on the PS4 first. The remastered version contains all three DLC, a new NPC – the Scholar of the First Sin – and enemy positions and behavior has been changed.

I've always been a fan of the second game in the Trilogy, so the PS4 version was highly welcomed! The changes to enemies was also a nice sursprise and made it a partially new experience.

I played the DLC only in this version, not in the original game.

The three DLC are the most difficult in the Trilogy in my experience! If I had to briefly name the general setting of these DLC, I'd describe them as the Deep Caverns, the Iron Castle and the Frozen City. Some of the bosses have great designs and even better gear, and from a level design perspective, these add-ons are brilliant! They add a lot of good content to a decent game and give the player a good challenge.

I think every Dark Souls fan has to play these three DLC, they are absolutely worth it and redeem the bad reputation of Dark Souls II in comparison to its prequel and sequel!

A Souls-like game set in the yokai-infested late Sengoku period of japan.

After the fame the Dark Souls series recieved and its ending, it was just a matter of time until other developers try out the Souls-formula. Team Ninja was one of the first to try it out, and they succeeded in every aspect!

The game is set in the late Sengoku peroid, so the game's design is made to resemble the architecture and world of that period of time. Tall pagodas, beautiful shinto shrines/jinjas and dozens of different kinds of jizo statues everywhere you look. Weapons and armor designs include detailed samurai styles, comfortable ninja styles and badass shogun/yokai styles. Monsters and familiars are inspired by famous yokai – kappa, nue, oni, tengu and kitsune for example. In regards to design, this game is a feast for everyone that enjoys japanese culture and well-made and detailed equipment and monster models!

The music is pleasant to listen to. Some few levels have a more calm and friendly tune whereas the majority of levels has a more sinister and darker tone, like the calm before a storm. Boss music is thrilling and aggressive, which fits the fast gameplay.

I have to admit that I don't remember much about the story (it's been 5 years since I played the game). You play as William, an Irishman that traveled to japan in pursuit of an enemy. There, he gets involved in the conflict between men and yokai and everyone that abuses the power of yokai for evil intentions. Item descriptions and character and yokai notes give historically correct info as well as fictional in-game info about the story.

The gameplay is Souls-like, but not exactly the same. In general, the game is more fast paced (like Bloodborne). There is no open world, instead you have different levels which can be set to higher difficulties once you finished the game, pretty much like a new-game+ feature. You can choose between 5 melee main weapons and 3 long-range sub weapons. During a fight, you can change your stance to either use slow heavy attacks, balanced medium attacks or fast but weak attacks. Each stance has advantages and disadvantages, and they give the gameplay more variety and many possibilities to overcome an enemy. You can also use ninja abilities as well as onmyo magic, and on top of that you can equip a powerful guardian which can be summoned to help you against powerful enemies. Each level has shrines which act as checkpoints and level up places. When you die, you get revived at the last checkpoint you came across. At the end of each level is a boss, and if you defeat that boss, new levels are unlocked.

The three DLC are some of the best I've ever played! They continue the story after the main game. They add many new and painfully strong enemies, new locations and many interesting characters. Two new weapons are introduced, as well as three more new-game+ difficulties. Each DLC offers plenty of content for many hours. If you like the main game, you'll enjoy the DLC as well!

The whole game is a joy to play through. Team Ninja managed to make a fantastic game inspired by Souls-games, and the huge amount of historical facts and mythical stories is just amazing!

The remastered version of Final Fantasy XII, this time with previously japan-only content like the International Zodiac Job System and the 100 Trials Mode!

Back on the PS2, Final Fantasy XII was the game that really started my love for gaming. It made me want to play the next Final Fantasy game, which lead to my brother and me buying a PS3 and discovering many more interesting games. You can't imagine how excited I was when this Remaster got announced!

The design of the game is, simply said, fantasy-like (who would have thought). From walking cacti to big bad machines, dinosaurs, huge toads, dragons and evil vegetables, the game has a big variety of enemies in all sizes and forms. Weapons (and armor, though equipping it doesn't change the character's looks) are beautifully designed and get progressively more detailed the higher the required 'level' is. The characters are a colorful bunch: orphans, a sky pirate, a knight, a princess, and a leporine character. There are many different kinds of races living in the world, like the well-known Moogles, Humes, Bangaas, Viera, Seeq and Garif. During your journey, you'll walk across huge deserts, through magic forests, beaches, caves, through a giant crystal and ancient temples. Big airships are flying around in the world which you can use to travel from city to city.

The music is catchy and beautiful at times, and it sounds adventurous overall. The Soundtrack is good and it fits the specific areas of the game well. For me personally though, Final Fantasy XII has one of the weaker Soundtracks in the series, and only a few tracks are memorable.

The story starts simple and grows into a complicated one, including political disputes, war between empires and dangerous magic stones. It was never the games strongpoint to be sure. It doesn't help that halfway through the game, the first two characters you get introduced to become almost irrelevant for the story progression.

The gameplay is where the game really starts to shine in my opinion. Like in most RPGs/JRPGs, you have an open world with restricted access to some places until later in the game. Each character has a License Board with which you can unlock new magic, skills and the ability to wear armor and use new weapons. Each enemy you defeat awards you with a skill point. Enemies are walking around the world and can be attacked or ignored in some cases. The battle mechanic is a mix between roundbased and active-time-battle: You can walk around freely during a fight (or flee if you don't want to fight right now) and can use magic and items, but you have to wait a short time until the characters use them. How fast these attacks and actions happen depends on the characters agility stat and the equipped weapon. There's also a system that simplifies the battle, if you wish to use it: the Gambit-System. You can use it to give your characters orders. What enemy they should attack, what skills they should use against certain enemies, at what HP threshold they should use a potion etc.. It automates a lot of the fights, but isn't necessary if you like playing without this help. You can accept Bounties and hunt strong special monsters for rewards, complete side-quests from NPCs, find hidden treasure around the world. Some bosses and summons called Esper are optional, so finding them is also something you can do. The huge world is vibrant and full of things to do!

The Extra Content in this Zodiac Age version includes a change to the License Boards in comparison to the original version. Instead of the same board for all characters, you can choose up to two Job Boards for each character, with the possibility of re-using a Job for several characters. Every Job has a different board with different abilities and equipement to unlock. This makes the game more strategic and interesting for replays, since you can try to make a run with mages only or melee fighters only. There's also the 100 Trials Mode with 100 floors of challenging enemy constellations.

While the music and especially the story aren't really great for a Final Fantasy game, the amount of activities, enemies to fight and hidden side quests are undoubtedly fantastic. Despite its weaknesses, I love this game, and I recommend it to everyone who doesn't mind a chaotic story!

The remaster of the fantastical adventure to regain your heart stolen by a gigantic dragon!

Dragon's Dogma is a game which impressed me back on the PS3 with its detailed world and monsters as well as the gameplay possibilities, like climbing on a monster to hit its head. I love the vibrant open world, the random encounters with fantastical creatures like chimeras, cyclopes and griffins, and messing around with the different well-made classes. It was my first time playing FF9 and I absolutely loved every second of it. I was bobbing my head to most soundtracks, the old 2D visuals are nostalgic and the characters lovable.
Seeing the original monster models from FF Crystal Chronicles in this game was also something I did not expect tbh :D

On the other hand, some throphies are just infuriating. The jump rope thing took me about 10 hours of practice, nevermind the blood, sweat and tears I lost...1f624.png
10 000 monsters took me 20 hours of solid grinding, and sadly I don't have a turbo controller...1f624.png1f624.png
The card game is just RNG bullshit that made me quit the game more times than any other game...1f624.png1f624.png1f624.png

Still, it's a great game, 10/10 would recommend it 270c.png

A top-down horror game with elements of survival/crafting and a unique visual field mechanic.

This game was incredible. The atmosphere is what makes it so damn good!
The way the developers tried to recreate the field of vision is especially well done and helps make the game a scary and unnerving experience. You never feel safe, there's always something new happening and the constant dread of what else worse lurks in the woods makes it even better. The grotesque and bizarre way to portray the NPS's makes you uncertain if you want to trust and help them, or get rid of them before something bad happens. But actions have consequences!
The game has some randomness to it as well. When you start a new game, the layout of the map changes and landmarks are on different places than before - a good way to increase the replay value.

Without a doubt, one of the best horror games I've ever played! 270c.png

A linear Zombie shooter with kind of a different 2nd worldwar story.

A fun little game, I got it for free from PS plus. To be honest, I would never have played it otherwise!
Like in most zombie shooters you can upgrade your weapons, throw grenades at zombies or stomp them to death. You can kill them in a wide variety of ways - shoot, slash, smoosh, fry, electrocute, explode. The story wasn't that interesting, it was basically what I expected and not the factor that made me platinum the game.
It was the fun little details that made it a good experience. A typewriter with jumpscare effects, little magic dolls everywhere you look with hidden meaning sometimes, funny little easter eggs, quite literally even and more! Had a few good laughs while playing! :D

The base game isn't too difficult, the hardest part for me were the 20 waves in a row in horde mode, they can be quite frustrating. I bet with a four player group this is easier though!
Luckily I got the multiplayer trophy for finishing every level with 4 players relatively fast with random sessions, which is also an annoying thing to do for platinum.

All in all, a nice game, but nothing too fancy.

A classic JRPG in the likes of old Final Fantasy games with a Wild West approach in terms of sounds and scenery.

This was my first time playing the game, and after a slow and dull start, it grew on me.
I always liked the classic JRPG games and figuring out puzzles and optional sidequests on my own, so I played this game completely blind and without a guide at first. While I had no trouble with knowing where to go next in the story, I kept getting stuck at a handful of places (speaking to the nun in the temple; the puzzle with the 5 chests and bookshelfs; the statues for love, hope and courage and the 4th decoy statue).
Close to the end of the game, it was time for the optional bosses - they can't be that hard to find, right? ... Right?
After talking to most NPC's again, reading the books in the library and still not having ANY clue where to find the bosses, I gave up. And after looking up the locations and how to get to them, my eyes fell out of my head! How in the world is anybody able to figure this out on their own? 1f602.png Strategy guides for the win!

Apart from that, the game itself isn't too difficult. It was mostly just spamming special attacks in boss fights and the occasional healing or buff here and there, nothing too complicated. And once you can buy the goat dolls, the game becomes a no-brainer.
The story is like most classic JRPG's, almost not noteworthy or indistinguishable compared to similar games, but heartwarming and charming anyway.
The music has a lot of whistling which is associated with the Wild West - the melodies are easy to remember and positively catchy!

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the game. It has its flaws, but it is a pleasant experience. 1f44c.png

A creepy fast food simulator with a cow which doesn't tolerate failure. 1f42e.png

This game started out as a terrifying experience, but unfortunately became a jump-scare festival in the end.
It has great ominous visuals and the sounds are quite sinister, enough to give the player a creepy feeling throughout the game. If you're afraid of animal animatronics suddenly moving, then the game becomes even better!
Sadly, the game becomes repetitive too quickly. You start your day, go to work, try to finish your haunted shift and go back home afterwards. On the way to work or back home, you can explore the city and figure out what exactly is going on. The city changes after almost every day which unlocks new items, you can find more clues and progress in the story.
It's a good short horror game, but it suffers from somewhat inaccurate controls. At some points in the game, you have to be fast at picking up items, but the small cursor has to be on the object in order to pick it up. Sometimes, you have to stand exactly on top of the object or even squat down to get the cursor to register it, and even then it's not sure you pick it up.

If you enjoy short horror games, I'd recommend it and say go for it, but don't expect too much from it! Horror also depends on the player, so I guess what isn't creepy for me might be frightening for someone else!

You want to pick up your sick daughter from her boarding school, but a psycho nun doesn't want you to leave... she wants you dead. 271d.png

Nun Massacre is an absolutely terrifying game.
Like all Puppet Combo games, it's made to look like you're playing on a PS1. The low resolution, the blurryness and the pixelated look make the whole game more horrifying than good graphics ever could. And the nun is just plain creepy. Getting chased by her through staircases and long dark halls or even vents is no joke. The sounds while beeing chased make your hairs stand on end, especially after total silence.
The game's goal is simple: You're stuck in the school and have to find a way out while avoiding the nun. With different items you can unlock new areas and progress in the game. As you walk (or crouch 1f609.png) around the house, you'll come across notes that tell you a bit of the backstory concerning the nun and the building.
Even though they are not a part of the trophies, if you enjoyed the nun scenario, you can unlock three other scenarios for you to play. I played two of them so far and enjoyed them thoroughly!
If you love horror games, and good graphics aren't necessary for you, I cannot recommend this game enough, and other Puppet Combo games as well!

This must be the 4th or 5th time I've played this game, but I guess I'll never tire from doing it again. Fantastic game, phenomenal music and thrilling story - even better now after I've read the books! Seeing all the little references to the books was great, and some side stories had quite a different tone to them with all the previous knowledge.

This game is a masterpiece, I hope to play it again on the PS6 someday :D

Your thread is looking nice, can't wait to see how it evolves as you work on it :D I'm not the smartest person in the world, but your English seems perfectly fine to me. I didn't spot any glaring mistakes and I understood everything clearly. Keep up the good work, man!

Thank you! I always feel a bit insecure about my english because I spend a long time for big paragraphs, restructure them a lot and need to use an online dictionary for some fancy words ? I hope making these reviews will help me feel better about it!

After finally being content with my checklist, I figured I'd start with the first two reviews: Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XIII! Now I noticed making reviews for games I played 5 years ago is not the easiest of tasks ? Let's see how this works out.

I'll copy them and put them in my 'Platinums' section above!

Platinum review number 4 and 5: Tales of Graces f and Tales of Xillia!

Platinum reviews number 6, 7 and 8: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII!

Platinum Trophy

The open-world RPG with dragons almost everyone knows by now!

I did it again. I saw that a few games on my wishlist were on sale, and the temptation was just too strong. Now I have 6 more games in my backlog ?

Waddle Home looks like a cute little VR game. Super Chicken Jumper seems to be a short fun game, I'm just a bit disappointed it has almost only gold trophies ? Bloodwash is another Puppet Combo game, and I love their games! They're great horror games, I just wish there were more of their games on console. Untitled Goose Game has been on my wishlist forever, and I finally yielded and bought it. Can't wait to play with that devious little goose ? Sakura Wars looks interesting, and I couldn't ignore the 80% discount. And Bloons TD 5 was a no-brainer since I loved playing the first three games back in 2010. Seeing the 5th game on console was a pleasant surprise!

...At this rate I'm not gonna be finished until the end of the year with the ~80 missing plat reviews ?
Anyways, I finished The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS5), or at least I got platinum. I fully intend to get 100% again for this masterpiece! And I have to say, reading the books before playing the game does make a difference! If you enjoy the Witcher games, I heartily recommend reading the books! They might not be to everyones liking, but they improve the already brilliant game even more. Understanding the relationships between characters, seeing the references to the books and knowing the whole story about Ciri for example makes the game experience so much better! ?  I also made a small review (it's more like a small loveletter) for it. I'll make a big text for the original version of the game later (which will be review #14)

This game is a masterpiece, I hope to play it again on the PS6 someday!

I finished another review as well: Dark Souls (PS3)!

I decided to follow a certain writing style this time, where I talk about the design, music, story, gameplay and DLC if there is any. I'll try to keep this writing style for all future reviews since it's easier for me if I have a clear format in mind. I might change the previous few reviews sometime as well, but who knows how long that will take ?

The Dark Soul

I appreciate seeing your thoughts on The Witcher 3 compared to the books. I've never actually played the game, but I read and really enjoyed the books. I'm considering making the game my next big challenge, so it's good to know that I'll enjoy it more after having read the books.

The books greatly help to understand the motives and reactions in certain conversations. Reading the books is definitely not necessary, but if the player already understands how the world works and what happened in the past to some characters, then the seriousness of some tasks comes across way better!

It's a great game with fantastic story telling, I hope you'll enjoy it! :D

I'm almost done with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS5) now, I gotta start looking for something else to play. (technically I have Monster Hunter Rise as well, but I play that with my brother when he has the time to play) With over 200 games to choose from, this is always the hardest part... Damn my collector heart! ?
I bought the deluxe edition of Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line and played for an hour. The game is great fun and goddamn cute on top! It's such a joy to listen to your favorite songs and play along! But I guess I'll play this game occasionally, not as a main game I can put hours into in one go. ?

Now that I'm completely done with The Witcher 3 I decided to play something a bit shorter and more casual: Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando.

I bought the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy a few ago, but I don't have my PS3 connected anymore (and I'm too lazy to make space for it), so playing these games simply wasn't an option. But since they're all in the PS+ service, I finally decided to work on the Trilogy again! And once I'm done with the 3rd game as well, I might also come back to R&C Nexus to finish it after 10 years. ?

I've also stumbled upon the game Injection π23 'No Name, No Number', a horror game as part of a Trilogy. I played a bit already and really enjoy it so far, it reminds me of an old horror PC game, 'Cry of Fear', and it's inspired by 'Silent Hill' games.

I'm done with two more reviews as well, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin and Nioh! :D

I'm not sure why, but sometimes I'm able to open all spoiler tags, and sometimes they just don't work. The tags in the main post never make any problems despite having emotes in them, but in these short updates they won't open most of the time, even though there are zero emotes in the text. ? I'm still kinda experimenting around to see what works and what doesn't. And the only difference to the main post is the spoiler-tag in a spoiler-tag, so let's see if this works now ?

Instead of playing one of the many games I just started, I'm playing Trove with my brother. That wasn't planned, but we're having fun for now. The platinum will be a nice addition as well! :D

I don't have much time to write reviews right now, but I managed to finish two more: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)!

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Playing the game again on the PS4 with better performance all around and a resurrected pawn system is great! Going through Bitterblack Isle or casting grand magic without FPS issues and fighting the Ur-Dragon was definitely worth getting back to this wondeful game!

I'm so excited for Dragon's Dogma 2, even though it probably still takes a few years until it gets released!

  • 2 months later...

Well, it's two months later now and there are a few games I finished! Let's see:

Trove is finally done after 500 hours. The enjoyment was pretty much gone by the end (not surprisingly), but that was mostly because of a buggy game mechanic. I'm pretty proud of that ultra rare plat though :D
Ratchet & Clank 2 was a fun platformer, it's just as good as I remember it from my childhood! Upgrading the weapons was kind of annoying in some cases though, like the Shield Charger. Next up is the 3rd game, but I'm gonna play a few other games before starting it.
Dead Island 2 was a short game, but impressive! I played it with my brother, and we both were fascinated by the graphics and the gore system. For a game that went through development hell, this game was unexpectedly good! I hope they make a DLC, or maybe even another sequel. The ending was promising!
I decided to give 2Dark a try since it was leaving the PS+ service. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected! It's a rather grotesque game, but I'm glad I played it.

Right now, I'm getting closer to platinum and 100% in Monster Hunter Rise. I took a break from the game after finishing the main story in Rise since Sunbreak was almost around the corner. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed by the endgame, but finishing all the awards is quite fun.
I'm playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero as well, at a slower pace. I simply love the lore, world, and character growth in Falcom games!
There are a few games leaving the PS+ service next month that I wanna try out: KeyWe, Redeemer, and Gods Will Fall. They all look like short, fun games, especially KeyWe :D

Like always, I bought a bunch of games in these two months, and my backlog is growing and growing. And guess what, of course I bought all Dishonored games and all Wolfenstein games, right before they all got added to the Ps+ service! ? At least they are physical editions, but I just can't believe my luck...

I still don't have much time for more reviews, but I'll get to them eventually ?

95th platinum, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, done! :D
I love this game, I love this franchise, and I can't wait to put my thoughts into a text for this one. I just don't understand how Falcom manages to make such a compelling game with this level of world and character building, more franchises/games need this!

Next up: KeyWe, Redeemer, and Gods Will Fall. I still have about two four weeks until they get removed from PS+, and I could extend that time if I needed to with the offline trick. Let's see if I manage to 100% all three games ?

I'm still not sure if I want to complete a special game for my 100th platinum. It's not really something I did in the past, but it would be a lie if I said it doesn't interest me to some degree.
Now that I think about it, maybe I'll pop Monster Hunter Rise as my 100th. It's one of my favorite gaming franchises, so why not ?

Finished a few short games and jumped from 95 platinums to 99 in 3 weeks ?

KeyWe was a fun little puzzle game. Some challenges were stressful in single player, but with a bit of practice it was perfectily doable. Charming little game! I'm glad I had the opportunity to play it with PS+, I guess I would never have played it otherwise.

Gods Will Fall was interesting and fun for the first few playthroughs, but going for platinum was frustrating. The game itself is rather short, and the difficulty of each boss (and dungeon) is random each time - fun little surprise if a boss you fought in your first playthrough with 1 HP bar suddenly has 4 HP bars! :D
Getting that last item for platinum was a pain. I had to play through the game a total of 8 times to finally be blessed by RNGesus. But otherwise, the game was great!

Rathet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal is the last Ratchet & Clank game in my backlog that I still own (digitally on my PS3). I'm glad all R&C games can be played with PS+ Premium so I don't have to struggle with my old PS3 system ?
It hasn't been too long since I played the second game, but I'm surprised at how different the third game is compared to the second. It felt shorter, the worlds were smaller (with half of them being ranger missions), and there was no race you could participate in. I liked the addition of in-game trophies and vid-comics though!
All in all, I had fun playing it, and I love Dr. Nefarious as a villain! ?

MADiSON was a phenomenal horror game! The first playthrough was pure terror. The dangers, the jumpscares, the lighting, the sounds - everything was perfect!

Right now, I'm enjoying FFXIV again. It's always a struggle to get into the game again and remember everything you can do, but it is so worth it!

I decided to wait for the Monster Hunter Rise update in August until I play the game again, so the plat definitely won't be my 100th plat. I might do FFXVI instead, you can be sure I start playing as soon as it gets delivered! ?

I dug that one - a strange game, with some pretty rough edges, but it's got some really neat ideas!

I liked the whole "seeing the boss health-bar right from the start of the level, and the more devotees you kill the less powerful they will be in the final fight" thing - it's a cool concept, and one that I think other games - especially souls-like games - could definitely use to great effect!

It felt shorter, the worlds were smaller (with half of them being ranger missions), and there was no race you could participate in. I liked the addition of in-game trophies and vid-comics though!
All in all, I had fun playing it, and I love Dr. Nefarious as a villain! 1f602.png

A great one too!

I dug it a little less than R&C 2 - (for me, R&C2 is probably the second best entry in the whole franchise, only outdone by A Crack in Time).... but I agree on those vid-comics being awesome! Quark gets some really good, funny screen time in that one too!

Being able to decide if you want to rush through the dungeon with a more difficult boss at the end, or go slowly and clean the dungeon for an easier time is a nice idea, and pretty unique. I can't think of a game with a similar mechanic - I bet there are some and I just can't remember them ? I also liked that you coulnd't decide what characters you have available at the start of the game, and that they were more or less randomly skilled - slim characters were fast, but weak; big characters were slow, but strong - and each one had a unique affinity for certain weapons. That made the game an interesting challenge!

R&C2 is my favorite game in the franchise so far, but then again I have only played the trilogy and Nexus. My plan is to eventually play all R&C games available in the PS+ catalogue (that might take a while though). I'm not sure yet which one I'm going to play next, but now I'm interested in A Crack in Time! You also enjoyed R&C2, and you seem to like A Crack in Time even more! :D
