Hello Friends!

 

Welcome to a boardgame event of sorts but with your platinum trophies (and other games). I wanted to make an event that can go easily with other events that your may sign up for during the 2024 year. Something that could be both causal or hardcore, but overall the event is to encourage you to play and/or finish your games.

 

The Goal:

 

The goal of this event is to play Scrabble using letters from your platinum trophies with a few minor adjustments to the actual rules of scrabble. For example, let's say you got the platinum for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which is titled "Dedicated". You can now use all of those letters on your scrabble board. Now you might be asking yourself, wouldn't I just used the word "Dedicated" on my board? You sure can! You can also save your letter to get a bit more creative. Just keep in mind, you will have an entire year to fill out a scrabble board. If you have played before you may already be realizing that at first filling in a bunch of words will be easy, but as the board fills up it will become harder to get words to fit.

 

This event is designed to fit with other events. Once your post your board you are "signed up". You don't need to post a game list, you can swap and add all you want, you can even re-arrange your board all you want. Feel free to talk about your games, experiences, and other events you are participating in while you work on your board.

 

Games that Qualify:

 

In an effort to make this as open ended as possible, blend in with as many other events as possible, and encourage the playing of as many game as possible just about everything is possible as long as it has a 2024 timestamp. 

 

1. Any Platinum with a 2024 timestamp
2. Any non platinum game with the final trophy being your letters
3. Any DLC with the final trophy being your letters
4. Auto-pop? Sure, why not?
5. Shovelware? Sure, I guess.

 

The Rules: Basic PSNP rules apply like every other challenge. No cheaters and be nice to each other.

 

1. Everything is based on the honor system! So do your best to keep track of your score and letters honestly! Playing by the rules is for cool kids.
2. 1 board per participant.
3. For the sake of everyone's brains and score counting, all letters will count as 1 point.
4. We will be using a standard scrabble board with all the fancy 2x/3x letter/word score. With all the letters being 1 point it will make calculating easy.
5. Your word bank doesn't have a limit. I found this helpful site https://wordcounter.net/character-count enter all your words and there is a box on the right that shows all your letters, super convenient right?
6. Remember that words need to work going Top to Bottom and Left to Right.
7. Ill add more rules as things come up!
8. Because you will eventually have a ton of letter to work with, there will be no blank tiles.
9. You can re-arrange your board all you want. At the end of 2024, you will need to submit your final board.

I will update the list of participants once you have posted at least one board. If after I post an update and your board/score is wrong or you are not on the list all together please let me know.

Interesting, would you mind elaborating? How is this unfortunate? 3-5 games in you will have a boat load of letters to work with and I didn't want to exclude non platinum games and DLC.

I understood it as the letters would only count if the Platinum was the last trophy obtained in the list.

 

If that isn't the case. Nice event.

This sounds like it could be fun, and a decent challenge, I’m in.

 

When you say you’ll count entrants after a board has been posted, do you mean a board with a word on it that we will keep adding to and posting throughout the year, or do you mean a full board?

Either or. If you want to post updates I will will keep your score updated and forum page linked on the leaderboards. If you would rather wait until you have a full board you feel like you can't do anything else to, that works too.

I will make an example shortly. Every tile does not need to be filled, it just needs to be filled as much as you can. The words need to be real words top to bottom and left to right. If your words are too close together, there will be a chance that gibberish will be created if you aren't paying attention. I don't think it is possible to completely fill the board?

Yeah, you definitely misread. He said that the final trophy in the list you pop would be treated as a Platinum Trophy for that list and you'd play Scrabble with that trophy's title. It makes sense - a platinum trophy always pops at the same time as the last trophy you earn in a list so having the final trophy you earn in a DLC pac or a non-platinum trophy list would have popped a platinum trophy in those lists had platinum trophies.

 

I think this is an interesting concept to meld into other events. I am on the fence about doing it as I don't know if I plan on doing too many events in 2024 but I'll get back to you on that.
