Easier Menu Navigation For The Chinese Version (In English) - [Horizon Forbidden West]

The Chinese version of Horizon Forbidden West has been released, and despite there being an English voice option, the subtitles are only in Simplified Chinese, according to the PSN store page for this game. 

 

For anyone planning to play the Chinese version of Horizon Forbidden West, especially due to the incentive of 2 separate trophy lists, for PS4 & PS5, I have compiled all of the menus that you will be most likely to navigate to make things a little easier, especially for those who are not fluent in Chinese or speak Chinese much / at all.

Main Menu - There are 4 options here when you first play the game, being New Game, Settings, Accessibility and Extras.

(If this is not the first time you are playing, you will have New Game, Continue, Load Game, Settings, Accessibility and Extras.)

 

 

 

Main Menu: New Game - In this menu, you are presented with 5 difficulty options, being Story, Easy, Normal, Hard and Very Hard.

(There are no difficulty-related trophies so you can choose whichever setting you feel comfortable with) 

 

 

 

Regardless of which difficulty option you select, you will be given the following menu options: Explorer and Guided, which are related to the HUD and if you want to have helpful markers show up in the world's map. Explorer will have a minimalist HUD and Guided will provide you with more of a helping hand.

(There are no trophies relating to either option, this is for personal preference)

 

 

 

Pause Menu (In-Game) - In the pause menu, you will have 6 options, Resume, Restart From Save, Load Game, Photo Mode, Settings and Quit. 

(The settings in-game are the same as if you were to access them from the main menu) 

 

 

 

Settings: General - This menu will consist of the main options you may think about changing in the game. 

 

 

 

 

Settings: Controls - The first 2 images are to do with controls such as x-axis, y-axis, vibration, etc. The 5 images after are to do with button layouts, depending what actions you are performing. Feel free to familiarise yourself with the controls, especially if it is your first time playing. 

(There is also different controller presets but the images below show you the default configurations for each control mode)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Settings: Audio - These settings are to do with subtitles, and audio-related options. 

 

 

 

Settings: Visual - These settings are for visual and camera options. 

(Motion blur and camera shake being off can be beneficial for some players)

 

 

 

Settings: Visual (Dynamic Range) - If you have a HDR compatible display, you will be able to configure these options to suit your TV or monitor best. 

 

 

 

Settings: Accessibility - Accessibility settings come in very handy for some players who may need them. 

(Some settings such as aim assist, will help a lot in your quest to the platinum trophy if you wish to use them)

 

 

 

 

Main Menu: Extras - In this menu, you will find the credits, recap movie and copyright & trademark. 

(You will have seen the recap movie before seeing the main menu for the first time)

 

 

 

I hope this thread helps someone, and if there is anything you think should be added, then I will happily add it to the thread but I think I have covered most of the important things to consider without diving into anything story-related.

Amazing work!

My only single thing to add being that once people have gotten their hands on the new Chinese copy - is to then have the screenshots up for it also and adding a side-by-side with the English version; maybe even with some coloured highlighting to correlate identical choices for certain settings in their comparison; just in case things aren't located in exactly the same place.

Thank you, and your feedback is appreciated. I don’t plan to get a Chinese copy myself but hopefully if someone does, those suggestions can be added. (Credit given to any and all contributors of course) - I believe that this can be developed over time but for a starting reference, I think it will prove helpful all the same.

Well, I did order a Chinese copy, and when it arrives; once I get a chance, maybe I'll take screenshots and maybe send them to you via PSN Messages perhaps?

Then you can transfer them possibly to a PC or whatever, so you can use them and then they can be shared here
