PS3 Question...

Recommended Posts

So, my PS3 isn't recognized by my TV.

Meaning, when I switch it on, my TV won't auto switch to that HDMI channel.

Is there a HDR setting in the PS3 options?

Or is this just because PS3 is old?

Thanks in advance

If you hold the PS3 button for over 5 seconds until you hear 2 beeps it should reset the video settings of the PS3 to default.

If that is still not giving you any results then the other troubleshooting I would give is to swap out the HDMI cable to make sure that isn't causing the fault.

Sometimes the simplest solution is often the right solution

Maybe I am bad at explaining things. My bad. Lol

I was just playing FC4 disc version for about 2 hours.

And no problem with connection. The cable is like new.

I mean is when I switch the PS3 on, it's not detected by my TV

So, I just have to switch manually from my TV remote.

When I switch my PS4 or PS5 on its instantly detected.

I don't think resetting will do anything.

Maybe it's my TV? It's 4K, less than 6 months old

Did it work before for you?

Quote

1. This feature is formally called CEC (Consumer Electronics Control).
2. It only works for PS3 Slim (starting from CECH-2000)
3. Your TV needs to support it.
4. It can be enabled or disabled from the TV's menu.
5. Sony calls this BRAVIA Sync; Toshiba calls it Regza Link and CE-Link; Samsung calls it Anynet; Sharp calls it Aquos Link; Panasonic calls it VIERA Link; Philips calls it EasyLink.

I did see that setting earlier on today, but ignored it for some reason.

But just then switched it on, and yes, it works. Many thanks for that.

It's so much work having to manually change the input on my remote🤣

And thank you to all that helped me out. I am happy as a pig in mud. Lol

Recognisable! Once I discovered the feature I never went back!
Especially with my previous TV and PS4. The TV was fairly slow to boot and had to load it's (not so smart) smart services before you could open the menu to change channel.
With this feature it would turn on the TV when I booted the PS4 and also change to the PS4 channel way faster than I could do myself.

Unfortunately I have a FAT PS3 so it doesn't work for that, but my current TV boots faster so it's not too much of an issue anymore.

The official name of the feature is 'HDMI-CEC' but each brand can have different names for it. I believe on Sony Bravia TV's it's Bravia Link. Just search for 'HDMI-CEC <brand>' and you'll find the name :)

All good. Thanks again. It's been ages since I used my PS3.

I'm kinda lost on it at the moment. Installed some digital games.

But don't see them anywhere... 🤣

Are they still downloading by any chance?
To check, on the XMB go to 'Network' and there should be a menu showing the download progress. Forgot the name, it's not showing if you're not downloading. It's below internet search and internet browser.

Once downloaded they'll show as a bubble in the game menu below 'Playstation store' and the disc icon if you have a disc in. You have to click it to start the install.

I don't see any digital games that I downloaded. I looked everywhere you said and more. Nothing. Could they be hidden somehow?

My console was deactivated. I don't know why. But I activated it, and still they are nowhere to be found. I'm baffled ASF. Lol

Edit - Has this got anything to do with PS+? The 2 x games I downloaded, Life Is Strange and The Raven were both PS+ Titles.

Ok. I just downloaded a game I purchased, and installed it. It's showing up and I can play it.

So, that tells me it's a PS+ issue. I currently have PS+ and the 2 x games I mentioned above are PS+ titles.

Why aren't they showing up? I am baffled.

But I also downloaded Lone Survivor (not ps+ title), which I purchased ages ago, and that also is not showing up. Wtf?

Did you press download and did you then get a black screen with a message like 'downloading' and a progressbar with the option to resume the download in the background?
If not, you might have gotten some pop-up message that there's not enough space to download the game?

To check space left on your HDD go to Settings -> System Settings -> System information (near the bottom of the list) and then 'Free space.'

Could be multiple reason but check available space first. PSPlus games are full games and they can get fairly big for PS3 standards. LBP Karting was 20-30GB I believe.

Yes, I got the download bar etc. And yes about resume. I have 65 GB free space.

Just downloaded Alex Kidd, 65 mb. Lol

And it's showing in the right place. played it too.

As I stated my last post, it seems to be a PS+ issue

-

Perhaps it's because this is a more recent PS3.

My last PS3 got ring of death. But it still starts

Maybe its because that one is still active?

Did you check the whole list under 'Game' that there's no bubble there and that the download is finished. It might be sorted alphabetically and I read that Life is strange is about 10GB.

It might indeed be a PS+ issue.
Are you sure you actually claimed/bought the games in the month they were on PSPlus while you had an active PSPlus sub?
Because only then you'll have a PS+ license on your account for the games.
They might be in your shopping basket in the store instead of being downloaded if you didn't have the license for them.

If you claimed them:
- Did you download them through the store (on product page) or through the downloadlist in the store or the account management -> download list?
Can you try again and see if something actually starts downloading or that you get a message of some sorts?

- Did you try restoring licenses? Don't know by hard where it sits on the PS3, maybe in Playstation Network -> Account management.

To add to this: Life is strange was never on PSPlus for PS3, it only was for PS4 according to this list:
https://playstation.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Plus_monthly_games_(North_America)

The Raven was not on ps plus at all according to that list but also to my own PSDL export of what I bought. The export was done shortly before the old webstore was closed. I don't think it's still possible to do that in a way that it includes PS3/PSVita games.

To answer the last part: You can have up to 2 PS3 activated at the same time on 1 account so if you never had any other PS3's it shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to check your activated consoles you can go to: https://id.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/id/management_ca/

In the menu on the left near the bottom you'll have some menu for Device management (Not sure what the name in English is) and here you can deactivate all your consoles.
But beware: you can only deactivate ALL of them at once and not one by one. This can also only be done once very so many months (unless that changed).
This means that you have to activate every playstation you want to use again after this action.
But this won't solve the problem for your PS+ game issue.

I believe those games were simply never part of the monthly PS+ games on PS3.
