I know nothing about these. I take it they're pretty popular in Japan? It kinda sucks that there aren't going to be any physical copies, though. -_-

The fault-series is just one doujin-VN from a relative small circle and I wouldn't say it's that popular, but it seems to be at least the most popular doujin-VN published by Sekai Project that doesn't rely on fanservice or H-content (not that there are many to go by). Steamspy at least says it has about 60,000 owners. But I would say it has a very loyal fanbase over here in the west as their Patreon is rather popular. But I can't say for sure as I'm heavily biased towards this series. xD

Overall the first two entries are rather short kinetic VNs (reading time 5 to 10 hours at most) that seem to be well-received:

https://vndb.org/v15252

Root Double seems to be a rather popular VN in Japan as it was made by Regista. Compared to fault it has far more content with many branching stories but I can't say anything about the content as I only pledged for a Vita-version. But it also has some very good ratings:

About physical versions:

The fault-games will get a physical treatment via Limited Run Games as mentioned here:

Root Double won't get a physical release as the voices take up too much space to fit on a retail game and it was digital-only in Japan, too.

This new tier will include both a Steam key and a downloadable PSVita code, with the PSVita port being scheduled one year from now. As we explained last update, this is not a matter of simply putting text into an engine and calling it a day, so proper care and coding needs to take place to accommodate for the significantly increased script size that comes with the English localization.

For those who are wondering why there is only a digital option for PSVita is due to Root Double’s substantial amount of voice work which cannot fit on the physical media of which PSVita makes use of. This was the case for the Japanese release as well.

So we can't blame Sekai for this but Sony as they limited the Vita-cards to the maximum size of 4GB.

Thanks for the information dump! :D I'll definitely be keeping my eye on these going forward.

It's cool that the fault games are getting physical copies in limited numbers, although I doubt I'll be able to secure a copy myself. -_- It's interesting you say Root Double isn't getting a physical release because it takes up too much space. I figured VN's were pretty light on space, even with the voices. I'm clearly not an expert, though. :P

When there are any worthwile information shared via any of the Kickstarter-projects or via fault's Patreon I will share it for sure. :D

Getting a LRG-release can be a gamble sometimes. There are games where the two batches are sold out in just a few minutes and then there are games where the demand is so low that it takes about two days until everything is sold out. Personally I just hope that Sekai and AiD stick to their promise to guarantee KS-backers a possibility to save their physical copies. :D

Is there any news on when the Limited Run ordering is open?

No. The only thing that is is known so far is that they consider a release sometime in 2017. If there's any tweet from LRG or a KS-update/Tweet from Sekai or one of the devs stating the release I will post it.

  • 3 months later...

Seems like Sekai Project found a publisher to cooperate with, as Rabi-Ribi got rated by the german ratings board USK:

Spoiler

Can be found here when searching for the title:

I wonder if PQube will only be a publisher for Rabi-Ribi or if they will help with the other games, too. And now I wonder how the chances are for getting a retail release. :hmm:
