Cryogenicide_X
I understand that PS4 Games install in the background while you are playing the Game until they have fully installed. What I wanted to ask is if it's possible to fully install a Game to the HDD before you play the Game?
Parker
Yeah, the game will continue to install until it is completely finished, regardless of whether or not you start playing the game. Parker

Parker So that would mean then that you can't fully install a Game to the HDD before you start the Game? It has to be done while your playing the Game. damon8r351
No, you can start the install process, walk away, then come back later and it will be done, if that's what you want to do. Where you're getting confused is that when you were installing a new game on the PS3, you couldn't do anything with it until the install was complete. On the other hand, the PS4 allows you to be able to start the game if you choose to do so and play it while the install process is still under way. Mainly because PS4 game file sizes are so much larger than PS3 game file sizes with no real corresponding increase in install speed, so that you would have to wait longer to get into the game if they didn't allow you to play it during install. Once you insert a PS4 disc in the system it starts installing it, after a minute or two the game will be playable while still installing in the background or you can just leave the system alone or do something else and the game will continue to download. Chambers35
Speaking of; are the downloads/installs faster on the PS4 than the PS3?

Parker and if you did that, how do you know when it's fully installed? Does it give you some sort of notification?
A12
Speaking of; are the downloads/installs faster on the PS4 than the PS3? Yes and no. Yes, transition to d/l is way more smooth. D/L speeds can't be accurately judged now, due to the PSN being hammered. But the do seem to be decent. And no, it can be slower, as the PS4 allows simultaneous download. So if you've got 5 games/DLC/patches going, it will take forever. And installs - LoL It took about an hour to fully install BF4, so yeh no. (rly depends on the install size of the game) Edited November 17, 2013 by A12621A
Parker
and if you did that, how do you know when it's fully installed? Does it give you some sort of notification? For disc games, honestly I'm not sure. There is no bar or anything telling you it is installing, it just does it. I suppose you could go under the "applications" tab in the PS4 menu to see if the game is taking up as much space as the case says it should. damon8r351
Download speeds are going to only be as fast as your internet provider allows you to go. So if you pay good money to get the really fast internet, then your download speeds will be fast. If you pay for the cheap internet, then your download speeds will go slow. The PS4 doesn't speed your internet download speed up. It took us over 3 hours last night to download the PS4 upgrade for our PS3 version of Assassins Creed IV between our own internet speed and the fact that PSN is getting hammered right now. And on my part, there doesn't seem to be any real noticeable increase of speed of installs either. It may be a little faster, but not enough that would matter to me.
