Any tips or tricks

So I'm enjoying this game quite Abit, more so now that I've learned how to learn magic spells..

I'm playing thru as the witch chick. And am finding that battles are becoming rather difficult  I'm only afew quests into 'act 2' if ya will.

And seeing most if not all my minions 1-3 shotted.

I rolled up the mercenary dude an found that his starting stats, and perk. Leave my units carving thru the encounters;

What are some tips aside from getting higher warfare ( seems to make units hit harder) to make my guys hit harder last longer

Right now I got gear that's giving armor Hp and warfare.

Yeah;

One for choices and one for each toon.

I'm assuming the witch chick is the hard playthru; as even the game says she speclizes in spells and magic.  - and I've blown maybe 40k gold on units easy just trying to get thru some of the encounters; wasn't save scumming to reload encounters - as they seems scripted. As in no random battle encounter.

Just found one halfway thru story quest that had an archer formation that had 10 bars of HP and 1 shot my mounted rider. (150hp)

Since you can backtrack to other areas when ever. Tho overworld movement is slow as sin... (Horse gives some +speed but is useless In town )

Don't think anything should be missable

just completed my second playthrough, have to admit that these are 3 tedious playthroughs xD

So a few things i noticed:

- the characters:

although i haven't played katharine yet, I suspect elise might be the hardest, as she is balanced in both magic and physical leading to a more tactical playthrough with proper army configurations. Aivar and katharine have the benefit of beeing specialised (physical and magic respectively), meaning that damage output will rise faster for their compatible units than with elise

- Viable playstyles:

1. agressive blitz works really wel, this is what I did whit aivar on my second playthrough, investing in damage + movement distance + initiative. I ended up with units having around 1k base damage (red dragon: 1050 - 1375 damage). there where only a few though battles this way

1.a I think katharine can also work as an excellent blitz method by using the finesse double cast talent, really strong talent.

2. on my first playthrough i ended up with elisa beeing a thank, this is viable but more end game, tedious and frustrating to reach. you need to complete the scryers trial for this as you get the duke maximilian set, which gives up to 85% damage reduction for all types of attacks (really fun though when you get there).

- in regards to talent builds.

1. to start, unless you go thank build, order talent tree is trash, its focused more on survivability.

2. if you go blitz, you have several options but you'll whant to have "hurry up" and "onlsaught" in the anarchy tree

* Elise: Anarchy + Power or Anarchy + Finesse

* Aivar: Anarchy + Power

* Katharine: Anarchy + Finesse

3. for lvl 4 talents Supreme magic, Generalissimo and Reflect are best, these last from start to finish of a battle.

3.a Phantasmal Guardian is only usefull if a unit completly dies in a battle, so if nothing dies (which should be the objective anyway considering the harsh coin losses you'll make ?), although it it is good, because of the other mechanics in this game, you don't even whant to end up in situations where you would need such a talent

- save scumming:

1. yes, use this for though fights, if you lose to many units every fight, then you will run out of coins and thats practically game over. Coins are your life in this game ?.

- Quests:

1. Do everything. main, side and all fights. all of that combined has enough xp to reach lvl 30.5 to 31 and lvl 30 is the max. If you can finish game on a lower lvl, then do so, but know, lvl 30 has around 5500 army power and units like the red dragon require 5700 army power, so to bridge that gap you'll need items that give army power increases, and those aren't the best items in my opinion

- Scryer Trial

1. just do it on your first playthrough. they are frustrating as for most there tend to be only way to win, but they are very educational.

- Folly of the Brave trophy

1. Heads up, first few times didn't pop for me even though i didn't use the book of magic.

turns out free spell casts from items were recognised as book of magic casts, so when i removed those, i did get the trophy. At least that was the case for me.

That's good to know.

I should stop drinking with order then; lol.

(Was doing order/finesse w kathrine) thinking having units with a (green smile) would deal more damage/work together better

Lame about the 'free cast' outside of battle items not counting towards 20 matches with out using book of magic.

I have kathrine, and avair at the same spots in game and he hasn't use the book of magic aside from spawning in extra units for army reserves.

Do you get anymore skill tree resets or is the 1st one (free one) only one available

Ouch... I'm struggling to keep just 5k...

Might be worth it to reset kathrine's playthru.. I've only just unlocked the golem's... But her forces feel oh very squish.

Dancing around encounters. That I'm struggling to win. Tho just squired Max's boots (set item) that enhances defence so might become Easier

Do you need to bother with the skills that remove penalty's for having different units? Or can we just leave them and pick up more beneficial skills

They help. If your mixing your squads

The happier they are the more likely chance you'll have for a double attack,/extra turn. And  I think but not sure. Extra damage.

The angeryer they is.  The more frequently they skip turns. And possibly take more damage.

My mage playthru. Has a hodge podge  of moral units and they get slaughtered.. they are all neutral/angry w 1 perk into each mod.

Dealing 20-80 damage a turn

My merc playthru tho having ~8-10 more warfare. And all +,green moral as they are all 1 faction of moral. W. No modifiers. And they deal 200+ a turn and mop the floor.

Tho the mercs advantages is that he gets better preforming units.

I don't think his perk improves them 'that' much

hope someone makes a guide for the game to get the plat.

but this point its unlikely to happen.

would be nice to at least have all spells list.

Here is the Spell Lists

Also, I'm not sure if summon spell scroll is needed to pop up 'master all spells trophy'. In my case, for Servant of Arek Trophy (Master all spells of the School of Air and Fire) popped up before I used Summon Chimera Scroll.

Dude have a couple more questions. youre really close to the plat so you must have some idea.

Does Win XXX battles carry over to next playthrough or it must be done in a single one?

Especially ridiculous is Win 40 battles without using the Book of Magic.

What kind of Army and equipment is needed to defeat Nim in the final battle without using the Book of Magic? its doable i can only speculate with warrior playthrough.

i did the Mage playthrough so 2 more to go.

I'm not sure about this because I got it on first playthrough.
There should be more than 70 battles.
for Win 40 battles without using the Book of Magic, you can get it if you know what to do.
Save and Load before battle is also useful.

What kind of Army and equipment is needed to defeat Nim in the final battle without using the Book of Magic?
I got on Warrior Playthrough

Army was Knight, Disciples, Royal Mages, Cavalrymen and Celestial Warriors.

For Equipment, sorry I forgot which one I change from Hollow Set

Armored Princess's Shield
Titus's Sword

Helmet of the Hollow -> change any hollow set to other equipment

Armor of the Hollow

Gloves of the Hollow

Belt of the Hollow

Boots of the Hollow

Artisania's Star

King's Ring

Hieron's Ring -> change this, too

Misericorde

Power Balance
Win 10 battles with an army that consists of units of 4 ideals.

Three Sides
Win 15 battles with an army that consists of units of 3 ideals.

A little confusing trophies for me.

For the first one you need to have Order, Power, Anarchy and Finesse units at the same time in squad,

or you need to just have any 4 units does not matter what Faction they belong?

To get the first trophy, you need at least one unit of each ideal represented in your battle. So, yes you need one Order, one Power, one Anarchy and one Finesse. The fifth unit can be any ideal as long as each ideal has at least one unit. Doing this will also work towards the Three Sides trophy at the same time (I believe anyway from my experience getting them).

Just be aware when going for this, the battles will be tricky because your unit's morale will be super low unless you've invested in the talents that reduce unit penalties from different ideals. I saved up a lot of low-level battles early in the game by avoiding fighting them, then went back when I was suped up with lots of strong units from different ideals to bash these out.

Just Got Folly of the Brave trophy.

Reloaded the save before the final battle out of curiosity, changed the skills all the way to the end of Order Path so i had Ressurection for First Unit.

Equipment Was a mix of Maximilian Set Armor, dragon ring(that gives damage to Red Dragon) and the rest is garbage so i got  to 5700 Leadership

It was a Mage Playthrough.

My army

- Red Dragon *1

- Bone Dragon *1

- Royal Mages *3

- Knights *8

- Celestial Warriors *3

Bone Dragon 1 Level and Red Dragon 2 Level, the rest are 3rd levels.

i thought it will be much harder actually, it was way way easier than doing stupid The Scryer’s Trials, with the Army above got it on the first try,

i think it way be harder without Dragons but there are other units across the game, but in the last zone you have limited choice.

Got the Platinum today. So gonna share some tips.

* read trophies description

* gather everything as much as possible in the first 2/3 of the game - every chest barrel. etc

* gold is the main resource so Sell every garbage you find, sell every Equipment youre sure you wont use,

from second playthrough you will have a good idea what can be sold and what cant.

* there are no difficulties so do every side quest possible before going to the main path.

* you are looking at the 3 playthroughs but there are choice trophies and related trophies,

so you must do a full Order and Full Anarchy playthroughs to max out their number and get the trophy,

finesse and power doesnt influence the Trophies except for maxing out them so 2 different choice playthrougs for Finesse and Power.

* When youre done with Reckless Warrior trophy
Win 40 battles without using the Book of Magic.

use your spell book every turn. I reccomend having at least these 5 spells (they are cheap) for 2 Non-Mage playthroughs

Stone Skin, Freezing Ray, Inner Flame, Burning touch and Dispel and level them up once so for example Stone Skin can be cast on 1-3 units.

during Mage Playthrough you should take the time to learn all the Spells.

* Dont do Reckless Warrior trophy
Win 40 battles without using the Book of Magic on mage playthrough, do it on Warriors one or Palladin

* Replace units - all units are from 1(weakest) to 5(really really strong).

i personally recommend having Assassins from Anarchy faction itll make life easier.

* do Scryer trials as much as possible itll give you good and even endgame equipment pretty early.

if you cant figure out how to do them there are Youtube guides for them.

If youre doing A Power choice playthough i strongly reccomend using Equipment that raises Crit Chance and having Skiil for +200 crit damage

it does wonders beleive me.

Overall the Platinum wasnt hard hard but really exhausting doing 3 Playthroughs - same quests, battles, gathering, etc

quite happy to be done with the game

After i got the trophy for winning 10 battles i counted the next battles and the second trophy didnt pop.

Yeah i nedded play another 15 battles with 3 ideals to got this, for me doesn't count 4 ideals battles for Three sides.

Last battle with Dragon (or Dragons) are easy, even without spellbook (and without bonus spells from items). Did it with Paladin (Red Dragon, Troll Chieftains, Royal Mages, Dwarven flamethrowers and Discples) Equip with bonus to armor and melee-power.

My tips:

1)  Understand that you must pick between Anarchy/Order and Finesse/Power during your playthrough in order to get the 40 points needed to get the respective trophies.

2)  You CAN get Power 40 pts by playing the Paladin or Warrior (Aviar) but the Paladin has a smaller margin for error (Aviar starts with 3 points in Power; the Paladin only 1)

3)  To get Power at 40 with Paladin you must complete Marlene's Happiness quest.  After you complete the Brand's Betrothed quest, Marlene will head to the village with the guy that requires you to return his pig.  She will offer her Marlene's Happiness quest there, which in turn leads to a Power/Finesse choice which gives you 3 power points upon completion if you pick the Sword.  This is required if you plan to get 40 power points with the Paladin run.  Nowhere on the internet explains where to actually find Marlene to get her quest, so this point is hopefully important / valuable to know about.

4)  Your Anarchy 40 run will be scary towards the end; you will have 35 points in Anarchy provided you chose no order by the end of the game but the last quest for siding with Tenebros during Aranox Shadow will give you the remaining 5 Anarchy points needed to get 40.  There is ZERO margin for error when doing your Anarchy run so make sure you choose all anarchy choices and NO order choices.  Order should be completed with the Paladin.  I did 40 Power / 40 Order with Paladin; and 40 Anarchy / 40 Finesse with Mage.

5)  All spells can be obtained from vendors or quests.  You do NOT need to rely on RNG luck to get a spell from a treasure chest.  Make sure to find the vendor in Flonder (spelling?) village as it is out of the way and i missed it on my first 2 playthroughs.  This vendor has Sun Shield and other rare spells.  Also find the vendor in the last section of the game just north of the Julian undead guy where you complete some quests with him and his wife.

6)  Mage run is the hardest, even on Easy difficulty there are a couple of battles that require some heavy troop loss or creative use of spells.

7)  The 300k gold trophy is cumulative in a single run, meaning you don't need to save 300K in gold.  It will likely pop during your first run, so just keep collecting caches / treasure until it pops.

8)  Mage run is required to get all the spells.  You cannot get them all with the Paladin as you will not have enough Arcane Knowledge to learn them (unless you go Finesse to get those Talents which boosts Arcane Knowledge).

9)  I blew my first run with Aviar as I didn't understand the ideals choice system; you can get 40 points in all 4 ideals in your remaining two runs.  So if you screw up during one run don't sweat it; just finish the game out to  get your "Complete as Aviar/Katherine/Elisa" and clean up the 40 points across each Ideal (Power/Finesse and Order/Anarchy) in your final two runs.

10) If you are low on Ideal points, check your quest log and methodically go through each quest in the log to check if you missed a choice for the Ideal you are targeting.

11)  For Widow's Kiss, to get your Anarchy choice you need to head to Palantus's cabin and talk to Ursula outside his door.  You won't see a Yellow Anarchy icon on your map until after you talk to her.

12)  Save often in case you mess up a quest choice; this game is quite a drag and you don't want to have to play a 4th run because you made a wrong choice.  There is little margin for error when going for the 40 point ideal runs; use your first playthrough as practice to understand this system and get a feel for the quests then use your final two runs to complete each of the 4 ideals.

I'll add a couple tips. First run took me about 50 hours according to the PS5...but I nerd out on strategy stuff and pause often to talk to the family, get beer, etc.

First run, Aivar with all Order/Power choices. I never opened the book of magic till I got the 40 wins, and used the first 4 talents to keep morale even while using troops from 4 different ideals. After those 10 wins, I knocked it down to troops from 3 ideals till that unlocked. A bit of a struggle to start, but much easier with those out of the way. I used the free talent reset, and got better troops. I used pretty much all Power skills, but a few Order and maxed the spell rank of Air/Fire and Life/Light. The maxed Haste, Inner Flame, and Elleu's Light would buff my whole army. I used a full Order army with great morale, but switched to better troops after finding a tip on Steam. This army destroyed everything pretty much, and made the final boss easy to beat with no spells.

3 Troll Chiefs - Start the match with all troops around it and use battle cry, then cast Haste III

3 Stoneskin Trolls - These two tanks regenerate health every round.

3 Fire Elementals

3 Ice Elementals

3 Sentry Golems - These 3 add elemental damage and the Freeze is really nice for slowing down the enemy.

Scryer's Trial - I almost finished the game, completely missing this. To start those missions on the Crown Lands map, head to the dark spot on the map just east of the vendor Artemio...south of the Old Outpost fast travel marker. (maybe save an easy battle for after you get all 3 sets, since you loose a lot of leadership, initiative, and speed...probably be fine though with all the crit and armor)

A Tough Nut - The power choice on this mission is kinda tough(since I was using low morale and no spells), finesse is much easier. I was able to take finesse on this one and still get 40 points in power by only choosing power on every other mission.

Magical goods merchants that I found for all spells:

Castor and Sargonius - Marcella

Alizon - East of Marcella

Anne - Rickville

Maresh & Illem - Mages Tower

Paulin - Rouen Road

Felicia & Philippe - Floster

Agnes - Northern part of the big graveyard in between the Mages Tower and Rouen Road

Omela - Castle Ardenne gate (I think this one gets locked out if you do the full Anarchy path, so buy everything there just in case.)

I think Summon Chimera came from The Abandoned Catacombs quest, but looks like it's not needed for the trophy.

Rain of Fire spell comes from the Lyssa's Dungeon quest.

Plague spell comes from the Fatal Voyage quest.

I would say an efficient way to tackle this would make the first run as the mage(Anarchy/Finesse), since you kinda have to do everything to get all the spells. Paladin next(Order), going for wins with a 4/3 talents. Last run warrior(Power), not using the spell book...you can probably just run the main missions on the last two to save time.
