Game Breaking Bug - Possible Unobtainable Platinum

Hrmph.

It was going so well. Kind of. The PS4 version had the bug and was hoping the PS5 version would be clean, but alas, they both have it. There is a bug that prevents you from completing one of the dream missions and in turn, prevents you from being able to complete the game. Even better... the bug jacks up your save files. Which my anger is more directed at.

Towards the end of the main questline, you'll have to venture into the "heart of the forest" which will require you to complete the Firefly Dream mission. As soon as the mission starts, you fall through the level, preventing you from even having a chance to complete it. Without a way to get past, I'm left to assume this mission is what opens up the rest of the forest (or at least allows you to see through the dense fog area).

You're supposed to fly above ground, not fall into it =/ When this happens, it errors out all of your manual save files. When you go to load any of them, you don't get a corrupt file message, but rather an in-game error message that basically acts like your save files just don't exist anymore. Top left in the image below is the error message. Ignore my bland farm. It was booming once T-T.

cfMdbPA.png

The only thing that is remotely salvageable is the autosave, which isn't any better. At all. The autosave I just tried to load after getting the error set me back a good 7 hours today, which no one has time for. I had already made a bunch of notes to let y'all know to "manually save often" because of all the trouble we've been having with the autosave system, but that went right out the window, eh?

Anywho, as mentioned in the other thread, working on seeing if they can fix it prior to the 30th. Trying every angle I can to get the info to them. The affects two trophies...

  • Butterfly hunter: There are 30 unique butterflies to catch and my gut is telling me that the last 2 we're missing are in the area we can't access. Running around in the dense fog currently in hopes that they can still be found.
  • Dreamcatcher: If you get this bug BEFORE completing the 10 dream missions, you will be locked out of getting them since the Firefly mission will continue to repeat until you complete it.

If you want to check out the game none the less or with high hopes that it gets fixed asap, definitely recommend playing on PS5 if you can. The more of the map you unlock on PS4, the more frames you'll be dropping all over the place. There are also some minor bugs that aren't present on PS5 (ex: you can't use the shears to shave the Alpacas on PS4 which causes them to constantly get sick, whereas PS5 has no issue).

Fingers crossed and whatnot.

Go to the discord and there's a section on the bottom for PlayStation bugs, it's currently empty. The devs are really responsive, so I'm sure you'll get a quick response and it's unlikely they'll be able to fix it prior to release, but with your insight they probably could fix it very quickly.

Thank you!! I was trying to find someone to help in Varsav's server, didn't realize Mooneaters made one specifically for the game. Here's hoping we can get it all done!

I just saw your post, I'm glad they reached out and hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon. I assume there's no auto-pop or even save import for the PS5?

Negative on the autopop/save transfer, each stack is treated as its own game. They did reach out and are working on the fix. The other stuff I sent them was minor so not too worried about it. Looks like it'll be a few days so won't be ready for release, but at least one is coming.

There is a small chance that the platinum can be earned with a small workaround of the bug, but I'm trying to confirm with them. My luck and being short one stinkin' collectible for a platinum is becoming a pattern I wish to break sooner than later lol.

EDIT: Per the publisher and reconfirmed on Steam, the last butterfly is in an area that is not yet available in the game, making the platinum unobtainable even without the bugs.

How's the game overall?

Seems you got to end game pretty quick. I was hoping it would be a longer lasting game like the more recent Story of Seasons plats. Curious to hear your thoughts!

I quite enjoyed the game sans it's list of current problems. I ended up getting the save file bug 3 times and had to start over each time and it wasn't even a chore. Once you do the quests once, they're pretty quick to do again. There are a few things that were odd in the game like the minimap having some weird inverted zoom controls, lol, but it's such a minor thing. The size of the map is pretty much perfect for games like this and there will be multiple ways to move around faster as you progress into the game, which can be nice at times when you're in a rush.

Also my first playthrough took me about 20 hours or so from just trying to find everything. The quicker playthrough was after the first one, so it only looks like a short game because I knew where everything already was. Cheater cheater, I know.

Things I really, REALLY love about this game:

  • Inventory System: If you're out and about and your inventory fills up, everything you pick up that doesn't fit will automatically be transferred into your storage at your farm, making sure you don't miss anything. You also can't double stack anything and there's no limit on how much of one thing you can hold (from what I can tell at least, didn't exactly try to carry 10000 eggplants, lol).
  • The animals are cute af. Legit the patch they did yesterday (which didn't fix the bug yet) added deer and ugh my heart haha.
  • You can change the color of the quest markers so you can cover more ground in one go. It's a little thing that is pretty nifty.
  • The farming is not tedious unless you're in a drought, which then it's meant to be tedious. Your crops can't die, they just won't grow if they're not tended to, so if you don't want to worry about them, you don't have to. Same with the animals, they can't die, they just stay sick and don't produce anything.
  • There's enough time in the day in-game to really do a little bit of everything and still have some time left over. You can start the mornings with the "chores" (animal and crop tending) and then hammer out some quests for the rest of the day. I didn't realize how important this actually is until this game (or maybe I just didn't care enough before).
  • It's so relaxing. If you just want to mess around, play with silly animals, do a few quests here and there, and, outside of the bugs, it's stressless.
  • This game confirms that geese are evil SOBs.

Things I don't Love:

  • Whoever wrote the soundtrack is clearly a Zelda OOT fan. I'd recognize that fairy fountain music anywhere and it's borderline copyright infringement. You'll know what I mean when you hear it.
  • You can't destroy everything you place down, most specifically the animal shelters, which is a big problem if you want to rearrange your farm. Though I do believe this is a bug because it doesn't make sense for you not to be able to do it.
  • To sell your animals, you need to take them to the vendor who isn't terribly far away, but just far enough to where trying to get the animals to follow you the whole way can start to be a pain. Though, I do believe you can just setup your animal pens close to the vendor which isn't very top-notch visually, but works better for the market.
  • This is only prevalent on PlayStation as the PC version has been patched, but the wolf at night can really start to be annoying when you're just trying to get things done. It sets you back to your farm when it catches you and there's no way to outrun it. They added a passive mode on PC this morning, hoping they add it here as well.
  • The Wolf Dream minigame is by far the worst thing. The goal is to save your sheep but even if you do, the wolf can end up absolutely ripping your fences apart by simply touching them. If you don't fix them fast enough, your animals will escape.

I really appreciate this response. Thank you very much for going in depth! 20h first playthrough isn't bad at all. I'll keep my eye on this as I genuinely love Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, Farm Together type games :)

Patch Update 1.002~

A new patch came out this morning that fixes some of the smaller bugs, but the Firefly Dream is taking a bit more time to fix. While not included in this current patch, the publisher expects the next patch to fix it. They are very much aware of the save file issue and are taking inquiries if anyone wants to help/send info they might not have to them ([email protected]).

EDIT: This patch may have fixed the last butterfly, but I just got another save file error and it's almost midnight here so can't confirm until tomorrow. If this is the case, the firefly dream may not be needed to get platinum.

EDIT as of 06/06/23 - Patch 1.003 - The bugs/glitches have been fixed, but f all about that last butterfly. It's supposed to be on the western side of the southern island (the mountains just next to wear you escort the 3 pigs from the geese) but it was a no go (for me at least). Maybe someone else will have better luck with it, but I can't get it to appear or even just find it, so idk. That should be the only thing keeping anyone from plat right now.

This was posted 7 hours ago on the Steam help page:

"I found the Purple Emperor, not the Lesser Purple Emperor this time. Found it on the land area at the SE bridge from the farm, as soon as you get past the SE bridge, you go as far west of the area as possible (straight west from the area full of geese). There is a big hill to the East and the Purple Emperor is on the hill. They were active at time 16:00."

I'm not sure entirely on third-party website links (as in those that aren't PSNP specific) so didn't want to directly link the post I had found. ?

I've been holding off getting the platinum because of what you had been reporting, so I really hope you're able to get the platinum now! Or I'll go pester (nicely) the devs on Twitter. ?

Yeah I tried that area for a probably stupid amount of time (looking at close to 7 hours now lol). I've reached out in one final effort with the devs for some help but it's not the first time doing that so I'm not expecting much back. The butterfly is 10000% the last thing needed for platinum. Everything else can be done and the story can now be finished after the latest patch. Just one stupid butterfly lol

EDIT: Butterfly patch is incoming

Thank you for being the hero we don't deserve! I hope you get a response - they certainly seem to be more responsive than most indie devs that I've had problems with (in regards to trophies) in the past. ?

Hi everyone!

I'm having a hard time with the chicken trophy. Not sure if I need to buy all the types of chicken or just the white one is ok? I have more than 30 chickens now but the trophy Chicken Collector is not showing so... Looking at the trophy pic maybe I need to buy all the chickens? Not sure if this is just another bug (My game froze twice when I was trying the Wild Bees Quest, plus the "Plant 100 seeds" wasn't working either... ugh).

Also, I'm not sure if fireflies are counted as butterflies, because I counted only 27? I don't want to think about the butterflies trophy now anyway, it's such a shame, because I loved the game and was so hyped to play it, but then those bugs keep making everything so hard and tedious.

For the Chickens, you need to use an incubator to hatch them. 20 chickens grown in the incubator is what you're looking for. Fireflies don't count for the butterflies, the butterfly book is missing 3 butterflies on PS. It doesn't show the Rhetus Periander, The Hungarian Glider, or the Holly Blue, but they're still required for the trophy. Doing the finishing touches on the guide with the updates from the latest patch since there are quite a few changes from day one, so hope to have it up for you guys soon™.

Thank you so much for your reply! Today I was looking for the last 5 butterflies and when I found my number 29th I got the trophy. But no luck for the chicken one. I'm trying to get to the level 3 chickens, I sold more than 25 chickens so I know for a fact I had more than the required amount but still no trophy. I only need to find the magpies now and hope the Chicken Collector pops soon. Not sure what dream I'm missing because I'm at the last Story Quest mission, so I guess I will wait for your guide. Thank you so much again! :)

Edit: Double checked my butterflies collection and I have all the 30. Sorry for the confusion.

Edit 2: 13 new chickens later, I bought another incubator from the merchant guy (I was using only the default one until now) because I was running out of ideas so, when I got the chicken from that incubator, the trophy popped at least! So maybe there's a bug that prevents you from getting it if you only use the one they give you for free. For some weird reason? Just keep that in mind if you're having troubles with this trophy.

Still not sure what I'm missing with the dreams trophy, do I need to get first at the horse racing? Because if I have to, I'm done with this game XDD that's impossible for me. I did the last Story Quest, so no idea what dream I'm missing. Sigh.

This one is a little weird. My counter started after completing the first Wolf and Chicken dreams, so it was a little off. From there, any dream that is just chatting to an animal or if the wheel lands on a prize bag won't count. You also need to complete/win the dreams for them to count, including the horse dream. Luckily, you don't need to win the horse race to continue with the main story, you just need to complete the dream in general. It just needs to be 20 activity-centered dreams won.

As I said, I'm done with the main story quests, so I did every dream if I'm not missing something. Looks like it's a bug, maybe? This is so frustrating, I'm literally only sleeping to use the dream wheel but I complete every dream, just I can't get the first price in the horse racing because the control is so bad plus I'm really unskilled so xD I repeat every dream until I complete them at least once and I don't think they are too challenging (unless you want to win the horse race I guess) so I don't know what to do anymore. I will try to get the Magpie one today, so only the dream one to plat :(
