BountyHunterinc
Sony today announced this morning that they have bought Sucker Punch Productions, developers of the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises, which combined, have sold over seven million copies worldwide to date. This move guarantee's that all games developed by Sucker Punch will remain exclusive to Sony's platforms going from now and well into the future. "Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family," said SCE WorldWide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida. He continues; “The addition of Sucker Punch to SCE WWS reiterates our dedication to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform. With one of the strongest exclusive software lineups in the PS3′s history, combined with the diverse, innovate content in the works for PlayStation Vita, consumers have a lot to be excited about this year.” In a separate interview with CNBC, Sucker Punch’s Brian Fleming said that there was only ever going to be one company that it would have serious discussions with about a buy-out. “It’s just been such a productive and enjoyable relationship for us that I think that in all of our discussions the only group we really seriously entertained doing this kind of a transaction with was Sony,” he said. The future is looking bright for Sony with this deal, as they've aqcuired themselves a talented team for their Arsenal. “The bottom line is, when you’ve got a group that’s been as successful as Sucker Punch, we want to ensure that we keep them in the fold. It’s that simple. It’s hard to find high quality developers like these guys.” Sucker Punch released Infamous 2 in May, and are currently developing a completely new IP for the system. Nagflar
Not surprising at all. I'd be more interested if I actually loved the Sucker Punch games, but one never knows how good their next IP could be, so I'll check it out.
Parker
Surprised it took this long, actually. I look forward to playing whatever they have in store for us because Sucker Punch hasn't disappointed me yet. Parker
BountyHunterinc
Sony's packing on the power.......but was Sucker Punch going to go multiplatform? They didn't show any signs of going Multiplatform, but there was nothing stopping Sucker Punch from jumping ship. This move just guarantee's that all future titles will be Exclusive to the Playstation Brand.
BeautifulTorment
As long as SONY doesnt meddle in Sucker Punch's business too much, I can be happy for this buyout? I hope SONY just leaves the structure of the company the way it is, because it seems to be working for them!
parker-94
I guess Sony learned the hard way to snap-up studios before they go multi-platform *looks at Insomniac*
Denaratuck
I'm actually a little sad that they are now Sony owned. I wouldn't of cared if they went multi platform. Actually I wish they did. The more people playing their games, the more money they make, and thus the more money they have to make more games.
orenjikitty
I guess Sony learned the hard way to snap-up studios before they go multi-platform *looks at Insomniac* I was just about to say the same thing. Insomniac was one of the best companies that Sony had for the PS2 but they've gone multi. Sony just wants to ensure that Sucker Punch doesnt do the same. Next up for Sony would probably be Naughty Dog.
Azakos
Insomniac and Naughy Dog are some must-haves. They need to get on that.
