Hvalpen
Im wondering, do you guys think it might shut down together with GTA V in December? It seems kinda weird to keep it up, or no?
HuntingFever
AFAIK, the servers are P2P as of the GameSpy removal patch released a few years back so there's nothing to turn off.
ChocoDoc1
Nope no news of any shutdown for RDR. If they are going to shutdown RDR then Rockstar might start with GTA 4 first. But eventually they will shutdown the servers in the future so try to get the trophies early.
dieselmanchild
Rockstar announced a few server shutdowns a few months back and RDR was not included. I don’t think it’s going down any time soon. Regardless I think it would be smart to try and clear as many of these old PS3 games with monstrous online portions as they likely won’t be around forever. They may be P2P, but have some kind of authorization server, like Uncharted 2 and 3 did. Everyone in 2018/17 kept saying they won't ever go down, as long as PSN works, but then they announced the shutdown. BUT people were still able to play the game, before their PS3s crashed or were kciked out of it, by their internet connectons. Dreamcast12
Max Payne 3 uses Sonys Internal Playstation network matchmaking (games are P2P but matchmaking is handled by Sony). They will shutdown the login server and the back end database (Playerstats and Leaderboards) on Rockstars end. Red dead redemption uses a simpler back end only the matchmaking is handled by Rockstar and no database to store user information is used. Same for GTA IV. GTA 5 is full of hackers and uses database servers too to store player information so they axed it to cut cost and embarrassment on there end as a customer going into that game will have a bad first impression.
