starcrunch061
$25 is a non-starter for me, but I might yet pick it up on sale. Has anyone purchased it, and if so, what are your thoughts on the game?
starcrunch061
No thoughts at all? There are almost 4000 owners of this game among IDs on this site. Surely one person likes/dislikes the game, and posts here.
regislc30
If you are a old school rpg gamer, you'll like. If not, better not buy it.
German_Atheist
I'm interested in the game but 25 € is a joke. A joke I'm not gonna laugh about.

Oh, I love old school RPGs, but can you be a bit more specific? I mean, I've played a lot of Kawazu's games. How does this compare to, say, Saga Frontier? Or The Final Fantasy Legend? Popular Post triplejmzu8
Romancing SaGa (2) is a very unique experience where the story is not about developing and getting to know your main characters but your empire. First, it might seem very similair to other classical JRPGs such as Final Fantasy 2 (the character progression system is almost the same, so you don't level up by EXP but your talents on weapons/magic grow, the more you use the weapon/magic) but after about an hour or two the "real mechanism" of the game gets revealed. I'm not sure if I wanna tell you just yet because for me, it was a nice surprise but if you wanna know: Spoiler All of your characters regularly die permanently and you choose another emperor/heir leading the new generations. After every few chapters when you are enhancing your empire's territory by completing dungeons/areas, some to some hundred years pass so don't get connected to any of your characters. However, you keep your items, gear and "general strength". After the prologue, you'll always get lots of choices on what to do next and where to go next. Right now, I'm at a point where I can choose between five regions to go next. You're also able to recruit characters and whole communities to your empire and battling party. Plus, the game features actual decisions and consequences. One example: Spoiler Early in the game, you'll meet the brawlers at the Dragon's Lair. They ask you to help them out clearing a specific dungeon but NOT killing the boss so they can get to the boss, defeat it and keep their reputation. If you do as they say, you'll be able to recruit them afterwards but if you choose to defeat the boss anyways, you'll have to fight the Brawler's boss afterwards and everyone will forget about the Brawlers. You can't recruit them and they will become extinct. In general, I do really recommend this game but it's difficult. It really is. You can't really "grind" level or stats because the stronger you get, the stronger become the enemies as well (except for some specific bosses) just like in Final Fantasy VIII for example. Still got me frustrated at some points. Hope that helps, cheers. @starcrunch061 Edited January 27, 2018 by triplejmzu8
starcrunch061
Well, it's 4.5 years later, but I finally took the plunge on this one. I couldn't justify spending $7.49 on Kemco titles without giving this one a whirl at the same price. I've only just started, though, so no huge opinions yet. I did like the fact that talking to random people yielded a reward (in this case, I got a fireball spell).

Cut content restored, OST available, NG+ improved - it sets the standard for remasters.
WTrabex
I've been playing this for a few weeks. Unlike other SaGa games, you pass through different generations instead of clearing seven different characters. I'm having great fun with it, though some random encounters are too strong for no reason.
