Update 18.05.2022: The Game has been delayed and will now release in 2023. Also the game will no longer be developed for last gen consoles.

On yesterdays Nacon Connect they announced a new TDU game, which is pretty exciting, since the last installment of the series was over 9 years ago (Spring 2011). It's a different developer, because eden game closed years ago, but there are several ex eden games employees working on it so i hope they get it right. They already mentioned that you are on an island again (YES! I was a bit tired of NA in Crew 1 and 2) with 1:1 scale and since we can't play forza horizon there is pretty much no other open world arcade racer on playstation. Crew 1 and 2 didnt really feel like a TDU3 to be honest. Unfortunately we don't have a release date and gameplay yet but just look for yourself.

It was such a long time ago when I played TDU2 I never really sunk my teeth into it because I was just a dumb kid who liked looking at shiny cars but if this one is as fun as I remember the last one being then I might pick it up, even if I don’t decide to trophy hunt it.

A new trailer dropped today, unfortunately they didn't show any ingame footage. Also we didn't get a release date yet, July is only the date for the next trailer.

At least it looks like they kept the spirit of the series and you'll have SUVs in additon to classic racing cars. Also you will be able to play different types of characters and genders. A casino will probably be there as well, even tho i think it was unnecessary in the 2nd one.

Incredibly hyped for Solar Crown! Played TDU2 to death and it was my favorite open world racer.

They recently announced Solar Crown’s location to be Hong Kong Island. I think it’s a great location for the game.

I am very interested in this, thanks for posting.

The Crew and The Crew 2 are probably my favorite racers, not for the racing but for the worlds/environments and just exploring/cruising around.

The only series I feel like I am really missing from XBox is Forza Horizon.  Wish that one would open up to PlayStation players.

That’s awesome. Me too. There’s just  something about cruising around in a dream car and living the fantasy. Cool to put it in cockpit mode sometimes too for immersion. I liked The Crew and Forza Horizon was good. TDU2 sucked me in and earned my love. My previous fave was NFS Most Wanted 2005. After experiencing open world racers I find it hard to go back to closed circuit or point a to point b racers.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown delayed to 2023, PS4 and Xbox One versions canceled

Quote

In this blogpost, we'll be sharing more details about the clans in Solar Crown: the Streets and the Sharps. But first, the most important bit of news is that the game will now be releasing in 2023. With so much support from fans of the series, we know many of you will be disappointed, but our goal with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development. We therefore want to thank the fan community for your support and daily involvement on the game's official Discord channel and within communities on the various social media platforms.

[...]

We also want to take advantage of the extra development time to optimize the game and get you more involved. We are currently working on a schedule for closed betas. The more impatient among you will get the chance to test the game long before it releases. This phase will allow us to gather your valuable feedback so we can keep improving the game's quality until it releases, while also staying in more regular contact with you. Finally, with the aim of making the most of the technology in the latest consoles and maximising the overall quality of the game, NACON has decided to no longer develop Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.
