Popular Post antithesis
Sly, any chance we can implement a grace period for editing posts? By that I mean not displaying the "Edited by" tag as soon as a post is created, then immediately edited, but granting us a window of time to edit the post before the tag appears. It should be in Members > Manage User Groups > Click the arrow on the far right of the user group you want to edit > Edit Group > Click the Tab Forum > Editing > Edit time restriction (in minutes) I often type too fast for my own good and find myself editing a good deal of posts, which leaves a pointless "Edited" tag cluttering the boards. 5 minutes should do the job to allow basic grammatical corrections. Posts remain editable afterwards and after 5 mins the "Edited by" tag appears. {edited for clarity} Edited December 5, 2013 by ant1th3s1s
BeautifulTorment
Yeah, happens to me too. I've seen it done on other forums..... even just a minute or two would be cool.
Starrk_01
When I first read the title I thought you meant having only a set amount of time to be able to edit your post then it stays the same forever But now that I read your post, I think it is a smart idea, especially since most of us type too fast for our own good
Kirbz
That reminds me of this one guy that kept editing his post every 3 hours..... A better feature would be to see the post before and after edit. Restricting the time for post editing COULD work, but what about threads like forum games and competitions that keep getting their original post edited? Popular Post Parker
That reminds me of this one guy that kept editing his post every 3 hours..... Restricting the time for post editing COULD work, but what about threads like forum games and competitions that keep getting their original post edited? You're reading it wrong Kirbz. He isn't saying have a time limit on how long you're able to edit a post, he is saying have a limit on when the "Edit" tag appears on a post. Say you make a post and realize you left out a period or spelled something wrong, if you go back and edit it now and save it, there will be an "Edit" tag on the post. Ant wants there to be a few minute limit so you can edit a post and fix your mistake before 5 or so minutes is up and the "Edit" tag won't appear. If you edit the post after the 5 minute mark has already passed then the Edit tag will appear. Basically he doesn't want to see his post as edited when he just made a simple grammatical change right after he posted. I like this idea too. I do the same thing and type too fast for my own good so I'd like to see this implemented. Parker

That's what I mean. Give us 5 mins to tidy up the post before the tag appears. Edited December 5, 2013 by ant1th3s1s
Masamune
I know, I hate seeing that "edit tag" appear after only editing 1 letter of my post a second latter, I guess I need to start pre-reading my posts...

ProGamerX56
Nope. Fine as it is. I would hate for this to be forced.

Nice job reading champ - don't people read thread replies anymore? It's about removing a limitation, not imposing one. See the tag below, that's what I mean - give it 5 mins before it appears instead of immediately. Posts remain editable indefinitely, as long as the thread isn't closed. Sly Ripper
There's no setting for this, so no.
antithesis
There's no setting for this, so no. I just took at a look at that setting and you're right, that's not what I meant and I should have double-checked it prior to posting. But this should do the job in terms of allowing a grace period - http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/3776-wolf-enhanced-edit-permissions/ Just a suggestion - it's an annoyance but one I'm sure we can live with if it creates more problems than it solves. antithesis
I don't get whats the problem with the edi tag I wont go against it but it seems is not possible anyway. It's not possible in the IPB core, but it is via a plugin (most forum tweaks are). However plugins can add overhead, so I completely understand if Sly's not willing to go down that path. The plugin you linked hasn't been updated for over a year, not tested on this version, and costs money so I can't test it first. IPB 4 is already in development so we may as well wait and see what happens there.

antithesis
I found the setting Sly - Members > Manage Member Groups > Members > Forums > Editing | Allow user to remove 'Edited by' legend? > Yes. That's the setting I mean, not the one above with a restriction on time to edit. While not essential, it does tidy up the forums a touch for anal-retentive post editors...like me :eheh:
Doom
Well I'm a compulsive post editors, but it doesn't really bother me to have the label "edited by bla bla". Can be a cool feature, but nothing really necessary
