RPG Mania 2023 - The Octo-Path to Redemption - Congrats to SWWDevereux! (Completed)

Recommended Posts

Here's a little something-something that Square-Enix is adding to give respect to us trophy hunters who are going to tackle the notorious Most Wanted known as Final Fantasy XIV with Patch 6.4, coming late this May, which may help make things a bit easier on us travel-wise...

Quote

PlayStation®Plus members may now register one additional aetheryte as a free destination. (PlayStation®4/PlayStation®5 only)

Having spent a lot of gil teleporting from The First and Thavnair on my last character(the one which completed Endwalker), and now that very long teleports will cost over 999 gil thanks to an earlier patch, I can assure you that it's very easy to run out of money when you have to set your home aetheryte to the current expansion's hub world and you want to go to your Grand Company to turn in junk for seals to get cordials to help you get those 8000 collectibles from gathering. xD

Because of this, I will be going to the PSN store as soon as the patch drops and cashing that free gift in, and then giving it to my current character(Nemona Rookie) and start spending some time each day from the day the patch drops until I get the platinum, so if anyone wants to start planning out boosting groups and join me around the 23rd of May, right after Patch 6.4 hits(you can check out my character page on the Lodestone here, haven't gotten started on dungeons yet as I was too busy completing crafting and gathering quests :P) to get my poor little Lalafell through the expansions and hopefully get the platinum, I'm all for it. Maybe it'll help motivate me to play this game. (Right now I am busy trying to get another RPG completed before June, which is when my freaky Final Fantasy Summer will begin and I'll be adding the remaining Pixel Remasters and World of Final Fantasy to the completed tab so I want to get this particular game out of the way ASAP.)

#2 game:

MIND≒0100 + (4xG, 14xS, 17xB) = 69 - 4.75 (platinum rarity) - 0 (0% starting percentage) + 50 (Speed Run) = 214.25pts

I cannot lightheartedly recommend it, it’s mediocre to the point. I played it a couple years back on my old account and wanting to give this game another chance now I arrived at no other conclusion than before. Mind Zero ends on a cliffhanger which is a concept that I quite like in most forms of media but here it was executed less than a cheeky or hopeful hint as to what’s to come and more as if someone decided to cut the telling of a story briskly in a half; the game offers little closure for the plot that it sets up in the many, many grindy dungeon hunting hours prior. The loading screens are frequently, the dungeon design is quirky but lacking in detail. Given that both Mind Zero and mediocre start with m, I guess that descriptor is averagely fitting.

Apologies for being absent for the last week, I have been very busy with my final assignment and currently the Internet is cut off.

I will answer questions when I the Internet is reconnected because using my phone is hard to keep track of everything.

By the end of May can anyone who is changing their x2 and x3 games from Sunbreak please post in the thread or DM me. @ApriIis I haven't forgotten your DM also.

Enough dancing. There is a dancer that turns player into a big and another professional dancer in the inn. And then there is this miner who loves dancing more than fighting and shows plenty moves. See screenshot below for the miner.

There is a trophy Piano Maestro that requires player to play all pianos in the game. The protagonist gets better at it every time! and I remember there is another game that did this right, wait, isn't it Sophie2?

The screenshot shows another scene in which player is asked to dance on stage.

I can't open any of your spoilers. :(

EDIT: Nevermind, the links take forever to load up. :|

Anyways, plinking my ice pick away at the beastly iceberg that is Ni No Kuni Remastered, since I want it to be #190 before June or else Final Fantasy IV will be that game, but Ni No Kuni is huge and I have just gotten the ability to recruit familiars. If there is any dancing in that game, tell me when dancing happens (no spoilers) and I will credit you. ;)

LEGO games are not RPGs, you know. They are action-adventures. Unless the site calls it an RPG. xD

I'd kill for my current project (9th Dawn III) to be "plinking my ice pick away at the beastly iceberg".  I feel like I'm trying to empty the ocean one thimble-ful at a time, or maybe trying to count every individual grain of sand on a beach.

Each time I finish up a grind for some ungodly huge number of a particular ingredient because the game requires me to craft 10 (or 15 or 60) of an item as I progress towards trophy requirements, I find that I need to grind another ungodly huge number of a different particular ingredient to get a little further.

If I wasn't so OCD on the subject, I'd probably throw the game away at this point.  Or use the dark web to contract for unspeakably bad things to happen to the company that made the game and the developers who designed and programmed it.  But that's not quite how I'm wired.  So I've got god-knows-how-long more to grind; if I'm lucky and the estimates I'm using for the PSNP Guide I'm writing alongside my efforts are close to correct, another 30-40 hours of play.

/sigh

(Done venting now.  Thank you for your patience and consideration.)

Welp, you know my pain then. I have to grind up an ungodly amount of drops to evolve all these bustards that I had Esther serenade just to chuck them out of my Familiar's Retreat. I want to farm Tokos but I found that the island they are on also has the story familiars like Mitey and Drongo... and they are high level and hit like TRUCKS, so Olly boy gets gang-banged and dies instantly to three monkeys.

Yes, I need to continue the story but I am anal about getting every familiar and quest beforehand as I won't be able to use the ship again after I fight the unwinnable boss until I go through a damn jellyfish. *sigh* Once I get that dragon, I am going to start farming Horace Riddles until I get that damn Mist spell to make enemies ignore me.

Update #6 Live A Live (ps5)

100+18+16+36+ (50 Speed Run)+ (50 New Game)= 270.

There was sadly no dancing in this game lol

Not even the cavemen, because I know that tribal dancing with cavemen was a big thing. Then again, it's been a long time since I played LaL on an fan translation of the OP. xD

Anyways, plugging away at Ni No Kuni, this will be on the event. I want to try to plat it as my #190 before June. Also, I will probably not pick up FFXIV again until June because of Ni No Kuni and the KYC event. I have a week of Persona 3 Portable after my final Ni No Kuni II playtime. (And yes, most of my KYC list are RPGs, expect some of them to be added once I get around to them later in the year. :P)

Speaking of FFXIV, the Patch 6.4 trophies dropped and are seriously begging me to suffer in the Masked Carnivale...

139L7dcefc.png140L128962.png

Yep, this DLC has trophies for playing as Blue Mage. :)

One trophy for getting 120 Blue Mage spells and one for doing 110 duties in the Blue Mage Log. Thankfully no job quest trophies as I am sure that the new fights there will be even worse then Gogo the Mimic. (FF6 shoutout. Also FFV shoutout for Azulmagia and FFVI Siegfried in the other boss fights.)

When I say "no DLC", I mean I will not be 100% the DLC, at least not without a lot of help. But I will try to do stuff I can do solo. I really enjoyed the beast tribe quests on my old character and their stories(and yes, they are called tribal quests now, not beast tribe quests, but old habits die hard.) The only things I will probably not do are the Extreme Trials and Savage Raids. My last account got only one DLC pack complete, Heavensward, because I had someone carry me in Alexander Prime Savage. I couldn't even complete Omega Prime Savage due to constantly getting thrown off the arena by Omega-F's knockback attack. :(

I have made an alt character who will be emulating Shantae and picking up Blue Mage because Blue Magic is sort of like Shantae's dances, so when I get there, I will start working on Blue Magic. Anyways, when I get Blue Mage(which I will not do on my Lalafell as I already have her four jobs planned and won't be doing Omni-90), I'll try to set up boost groups. That probably will not happen until mid-June or even July because, as you know, I have a ton of RPGs I need to clean up, starting with Ni No Kuni.

For the record, I have 133/250 monsters tamed and am grinding out Tokotokos so now the humans are all Level 70+ and I just gotten access to flight, so the rest of the game is going to be cake. I am currently grinding up and morphing base familiars to get up the Creature Compendium before I continue the story by hunting for Mornstar's gems.

Sorry, wall of text, just letting people know where I am at. ;)

My second game is on the books in Asdivine Menace! I started it during the event and it's not eligible for any bonuses other than series, so for score we're looking at:

100 + (6*9) + (2*4) + (1*2) - 47.86 + 25 = 141.14 points!

After playing this, I feel bad for calling Asdivine Cross "soulless junk food"; not because I was wrong, but because I didn't realize how much lower the bar could be. Menace is worse by a huge margin in genuinely every way, only slightly making up for it with a significantly more straightforward trophy list. Safe to say Kemco is proudly going on my no-buy list.

@Psy-Tychist Sorry, I forgot that I never actually locked in any changes to my double and triple point picks. I'd like to promote Monster Hunter Rise to triple point and add Tales of Zestiria as a replacement double point.

Also, when (or if) you have the time, could I get you to take a look at Afterimage? It isn't tagged as an RPG on here, but it is on its Steam page, and it has just about everything you'd think of when hearing "with RPG mechanics" (stats, leveling, equipment, skill tree, etc.). Very much comparable to Salt and Sanctuary, which does have the tag. I'm wondering if it's something I'd be able to claim points on once I finish it.

So I'm more than halfway through Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. I have almost all the crowns from the base game and about half from Sunbreak. My afflicted mission level is almost 100 and I've been mostly doing random groups to get that up. This feels much longer than World and Iceborne in some places but in other places it doesn't. I've also yet to fight any risen elders because my MR level is around 80 and they only start showing up at MR 115. I'll keep chipping away at it because I'm getting there.

i have started my rpg journey but do i really suck at the genre i am playing persona 3 portable but i use a 100% walktrough guide that means i must play both gender main character male and female but i am enjoying it i only need to fuse the needed personas so i am just jumping in and out in tartarus a dungeon from persona 3 until i have fused the needed personas and i believe that persona 3 is my double point game

Finally got another game on the leaderboards!

1L82d1aa.png

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered
Score: 100 + (5x6+9x2+19) = 167 - 14.67% - 2(for two bronzes earned in November) = 150.33 + 25 (Seasonal Stacker) = 175.33 points

Well, I just reached the apex of KYC2023 and finally cleaned up one more title I used to stab my completion back in KYC2022. xD

This game is actually a physical copy so I am going to give it to my gym coach's daughter, who is going crazy and forcing her father to play Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I think this game is going to be just up her alley. ;)

I'm glad I am retiring it for trophy hunting because seriously, the home stretch was the worst I had ever done. The Solosseum was not as bad as I had thought as I actually watched a speedrunner called Palmer(check out the videos, I linked a 100% race he did with a couple of guys on this post) do a platinum percent speedrun of it, using the PC version... which turned out to have a glitch that negated the use of Seek Fortune to find the 100 hidden chests once you beat the game and get the post-game activities. He had to use a guide to find six invisible chests because Seek Fortune was useless to him. This proves that the PS4 version is far superior. xD

Anyways, that guy showed that Cloudburst, the weak spell that nixes enemies randomly, is not useless as all of the fights in the S Rank can be nixed, which means that the third fight against a really tough robot guy is trivialized by nixing it so it can't do its powerful area of effect moves. I screwed up the timing so I lost the fight once, but the second fight did well even though Esther died, it just ended up with Oliver and Swaine sending out two dinomen to pound mercilessly on the Golden Mite and Hurley. :D

The worst part was the 120 alchemy recipes. The Conductor boss fights weren't that bad as Oliver was Level 99 and equipped with a Medal of Impunity(which protects against all status conditions) and Wyrm King's Scale(which gave him a huge boost to all his stats). Combined with the Jack the Giant Killer award that gives +100 HP and MP to Oliver and a few Great Sage's Secrets from the Casino, I did pretty well.

The most annoying part was getting the chips in the casino. In the PS3 physical version, you can exploit a glitch in the PS3 that lets you game over and duplicate items so you can dupe the six Great Sage's Secrets the Familiar Retreat gives you and sell them for 6000 guilders a pop and pop the Guildering the Lily trophy before you even explored Old Smoky. Not here, sadly. So the only way to get money is buy winning a lot of chips, so I had to master the card game Platoon and rely on RNG to save me through sxi straight games of Platoon each time. I did get three winning streaks and over 500,000 chips, enough to get all the Jumbo Drops I needed for the 250 familiar trophy

All in all, not a bad game but if you have a PS3, play the original version and use the Dupe Glitch if you want the platinum. I probably will not, as this game took forever, but at least I got the platinum before June so I don't have to play it anymore and can focus on stuff like FFXIV and getting my Lalafell to Level 50. xD

Seasonal theme of traditional dancing? Well... Oliver's first familiar, a Mite, can use a move with 'dance' in the name he gets a golden glim as his super move...

.

Had some really "That's never happened before" incidents with Ni No Kuni near the end where my fat fingers ruined my farming. A couple of times I accidentally hit Escape and the team tried to flee before I could get the glim. (Thank goodness running fails often or I would have been pissed.) Then, when I was trying to get Kaledioscopes by using Swaine's special glim move, everything went well... until I accidentally used it on a Turban Legend(ice mushroom) instead of the golden Bedraggle(dragon), and stole a damn Snowblower gem instead. THIS GAME. :(

9th update:

Battle Chasers: Nightwar: 100+(6x2+2x10+1x36=)68-9.76(rarity)+50(Speedrun)=208.24

lives up to its name. Might be the last few turn based out there. Despite some of the glitchy battles the game is great to play. Recommend.

Completion #9 - The Diofield Chronicle

Really solid strategy RPG from Square, if this got a sequel with a bigger budget I could see Diofield becoming a worthy Fire Emblem rival! Brilliant British voice cast and surprisingly interesting characters with a lot of mystery behind their motives.

100 + (4xG, 7xS, 28xB) = 166 - 50.86 + 125 seasonal stacker (#4) = 240.14

Seasonal stacker - Dancing:

The game refers to some combat skills as a dance, and this is displayed in many well choreographed CG fight scenes.

1886704b4a635-screenshot-Url.jpg(the weird motion blur this game uses on its cutscenes make it hard to screenshot clearly.)
1886703e79e10-screenshot-Url.jpg
My favourite example is one of the main character's skills which has him shadow jutsu-ing into doing synchronised backflips!1886703828d28-screenshot-Url.jpg188670397ed21-screenshot-Url.jpgHand-to-hand combat can be a beautiful thing when captured cinematically. This game displays that well.

Just a question about if Star Rail gets Playstation 5 version sometime doing this year or early next year.

If some of the Trophies auto-pop due to me having done say Ascended Trailblazer (F) to Phase 2 for the first time on PC will those count since I actually did it doing the event or will it be done like the games I have already have some percentage in and those auto-pop ones won't count. I don't mind the latter as I plan on saving Forgotten Hall(The Star Rail version of Spiral Abyss) for then the PS5 version is out and I'm preparing the teams I plan to use for it.

If some of them autopop, it shouldn't affect scoring it. If it is a considerable amount that autopop, then it's a slightly different manner. Currently, it should be fine. :) Sorry, for the late reply.

Ok sl last year was a mess.  Id like too give this event one more go.  Can you add me to the event, and Im gonna try to get a t least 2 games on it this year.

You can join in the discussion here about the RPG's that everyone is playing, but the scoring competitors are locked in for the year.

Hey finally got a game done

Final Fantasy 7

100 (base score) + (5xG, 13xS, 13xB) = 69 (trophy points) - 24.04 (platinum rarity) - 15 (50% completion before event) = 129.96 points scored.

Also got the seasonal bonus as there is an attack the enemy uses called Dance that drains MP so +50

Was called out by @Beyondthegrave07 and that triples my points, so that makes my points for this 539.88

If I did this wrong please let me know

So the calculation would look like this:

100 (base score) + (3xG, 8xS) = 34 (trophy points) - 24.04 (platinum rarity) - 15 (50% completion before event) = 94.96 points scored.

94.96 points x 3 (call out multiplier) = 284.88 + 50 (seasonal stacker) = 334.88.

Hopefully that helps and congratulations for finishing up your call out! :)
