Heavy Rain PS3 vs PS4 graphics comparison

I meant the launch of the PS3, yes. It seems that whichever company does really well at first gets cocky and then takes their success for granted. The PS2 was great, so they got cocky with the PS3. Then they did everything they could to please customers and make them come back to Sony after Xbox took the lead, including the launch of the PS4. Now Microsoft is doing a Sony by doing whatever they can to make people switch back to Xbox. It's like a cycle.

Sony's products are great. They now have to keep the momentum going and not take their customers as fools.

By the way, I prefer the re-release versions of PS2 games over emulation. I have a PS2 that I can use if I want, and some games like Dark Cloud 2 can easily run you $50+ if you buy them today, while it's only $15 on PSN. (I think?) I do hope they release more because I haven't heard of new announcements for a while now.

yeah and it's weird because in the ps1 and ps2 eras those consoles were the best selling ones, specially the ps2 which outsold their competition by like 100 millions units of difference, but sony still supported it with great titles and quality until the end, so i don't know what happened after the ps3 era started, it seems that paid online services, DLCs and other cash grabbing stuff made some companies a little greedy.

currently even if the ps4 is not perfect i still like many things about it, my only hope is for sony to continue to release great quality games for the future in order for the ps4 to continue being at the top of the sales, because i think that even they know that the most important thing they have to keep doing is to keep releasing quality exclusive titles, otherwise the xbox one might take a little bit of their sales, i don't think the xbox one will ever surpass the ps4's sales because the difference between sales its really huge compared to last gen and not to mention that it's almost dead on japan and it doesn't sell that good on europe, but everything can unexpectedly change if they are not careful.

about the ps2 games, this last month i felt sad that they didn't keep releasing them weekly like they were doing, they only released a gta trilogy pack and a puzzle game called puzzle quest (http://psnprofiles.com/trophies/4376-Puzzle-Quest-Challenge-of-the-Warlords) but i believe that's because the trophy thing takes nearly 2 months to implement for each game like they said once on twitter, so i think that's why there weren't that many titles released, i don't think it has anything to do with sales because according to the ratings for each game it seems that they are selling really well, better than on the ps3 which sony even said that they were successful in that console.

The architecture of the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One are both PC-based, so backwards compatibility can easily be software emulated. The PS3's cell architecture was anything but that, with the PS4 being very much like a PC again. This is why software emulation would have to be replaced with hardware emulation to make it remotely feasible, which is expensive.

I agree that the way Microsoft has been handling this generation is exemplary. Sony is getting over confident, which in the end will be their downfall just like it was on PS3. Backwards compatibility with PS2 games would definitely be possible through software, but they wouldn't have trophies or anything optimized simply due to the fact that emulation is just that; emulation. These re-releases are actually tinkered with to include all these new features, though the only ones that benefit seem to be trophy hunters. 90% of the PS4 users don't give a shit about trophies anyway, so I imagine they'd love to just use their old PS2 copies.

I agree with many of the things you say. Still, both systems use blu-ray, and there is PlayStation Now. I don't have the technical competence to say for sure if this is feasible but I think it should be possible to have the PS4 recognize a PS3 game in order to entitle you to a free PS Now abo for that specific game for the duration the disc is in the drive.

And what I heard about trophy management even for PS1 titles is that it could be doable to implement a very simple trophy set such as "finish level 1, 2, 3" because a new portion of the disc is accessed and this could be registered by the system or something of the sort. Nothing special like "kill 100 x" or even more in-detail trophies, but still!

The PS3 used to have no trophy system and Sony were able to add that function back in 2008 after all.

Yes, but when they added trophies to the games that didn't have them, a lot of, if not most of, those games already had achievements and the associated triggers included in the 360 versions, so plonking a damn near identical system onto the PS3 version would be pretty straightforward, they'd just take the trigger points for the achievements, and instead use them to pop a trophy, only real work needed there is converting the numerical based achievement points into ranking (bronze, silver, gold, plat) based trophies.

Everything else you said about putting your disc in and getting a free copy is also perfectly doable, but won't happen at all, because there's no money in doing that. I have the digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4, and it only works when I stick my PS3 disc into the PS4, so using a disc to unlock something else is totally doable, won't ever happen though in all likelihood.

This topic is regarding the differences in the PS3 version of Heavy Rain to the PS4 version, but continues to be derailed off topic into a discussion about remasters/re-releases on the PS4 (posts have been removed already). If you want to continue that discussion then use one of these threads instead:

Which brings us back to the money-hungry gluttons.

I understand and this will be my last post regarding this matter, but our derailed topic is neither of the above ;) plus I would really have been interested in Paige-ID's opinion/reply.

But you are right, this no longer has anything to do with Heavy Rain.

This game doesn't need a remaster.  It was awful, and it doesn't look any better.

it does look better, the faces, textures, lighting, resolution and fps have been clearly improved as seen in the screenshots and video, it might have been awful to you, but other people might have liked it, and this remaster is aimed at those thousands of past xbox 360 users who made the jump to ps4 and missed this kind of exclusives last gen.

Are you an employee at sony?

You seem to love defending every decision sony makes  :P

I know he's a fan of Heavy Rain, but honestly, he's just defending his opinion. I personally disagree with it, but it's certainly on point here.

Anyway, getting back to the topic at hand, a lot of people make a big deal about these changes in re-masters in general (and, in this case, Heavy Rain in particular), but do you really notice this as you play? I mean, while graphics are certainly important, I rarely sit and study the shadows cast by cheekbones, or the lighting effects. Here? Of course I can see it in still frames set side by side, but quite honestly, I wouldn't notice much difference playing the game (contrast this, e.g., with cleaned-up HD movies, which show a noticeable difference).
